How To: Boxer Braids (Dutch Braids)

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Quick and easy way to do quick and easy boxer braids on yourself!
1. Part hair down the center all the way to the nape, creating two equal sections on either side of your head.
2. Clip one side away. With first section start at the front hairline, take 1" section, part with fingers into three strands.
3. Start a french braid, but bring the hair under the middle piece. * The key difference with a dutch braid is the hair coming from either side goes under the middle piece not over.
Once you get this rhythm you might notice a dutch braid easier to do than a french braid.
4. Repeat these steps; with right strand grab hair, bring under middle strand. with left strand grab hair, bring under middle strand Do this all the way to the nape and continue braid to ends of hair. tie with elastic.
5. Repeat the same process on opposite side.

@@maniszn5 I said this to you on the replies to your own comment you made, but since you ignored it I'll paste it here: There's proof that vikings wore these, one clear example being the name. *Dutch* braids. I'm pretty sure that doesn't need an explanation. Plus, your point doesn't make sense. This hairstyle doesn't cause your hair to get dirty or smell (in fact it stops it from getting greasy as quickly, at least in my experience anyway) so Vikings wouldn't have had a problem with them. Your hair would only start to smell if you left them like this for weeks on end, which I'm sure vikings made sure not to do considering how much they obsessed over cleanliness. It isn't "your" culture.

Great tutorial Hun, keep up the amazing work! But I do need to get something out of the way with this "racists issue". African culture does include many braided hairstyles but braids themselves originated from Asian culture. So all these argumentative comments going back and fourth over what a human being named a video is ridiculous. There isn't a "prime example" of white people "taking" from another culture and calling it their own, its called individuality and freedom of expression. The braids themselves got the title "boxer braids" from how many females who are in boxing or etc. use the hairstyle to keep it out of the individuals face. Also another thing, these are definitely not cornrows, they're dutch braids(as shown in title). So all of you commenting "cornrows" or other ridiculous commentary that was not needed, are uneducated so don't tell others to get educated when you yourself don't understand what you're speaking on. I'm beyond sure that she didn't mean anything racist by uploading a "How to" video.

So that this person who is trying to make tutorials has constructive criticism. I mean why make a tutorial when no one can understand it. It's feedback. That is kind of what is wrong with so many people today. Too sensitive. You can't give any kind of feedback without people being too sensitive and take it the wrong way. Now she knows next time she needs to show how to collect her hair to the braiding and transitioning to the next piece of hair ya know? And whatever other things she forgot. Again, take it as constructive criticism rather than taking it as an attack :)

With Dutch braids, you cross your strands under while holding the hair up at an angle, to create a bit of height, and you often pull apart the braid at the end for added volume. Withcornrows, you braid going down for a tighter, flatter effect against the scalp.

I understand there is no harm in making this video... but most of our history is being erased day by day. Videos like these, are mostly from people who may not understand the culture, and what it means to us black people. I think we should teach them about appropriation because many people do not understand the depths of what braids mean to us. And I believe this video is a great start: kzread.info/dash/bejne/q3p72c-Oc6ufkaw.html

I hate when people forbid other people from hairstyles, cultures mix and there is nothing wrong with that, we are human beings and if someone wants to make their hair, nobody should forbid them

Alina Schmidt I never “forbid” her from wearing the hairstyle she can do as she pleases. But what I was saying was people don’t understand what these hairstyles mean to us. She can do what she wants, in fact they look very good on her. I just think that she should call them cornrows because that’s how the originated. It’s a harmless video that she made, but she should just address them as cornrows. She, like many other people may not know the meaning behind the hairstyle. I was just saying she should call it it’s original name “cornrows”.

How you gonna leave the title 'boxer braids' when you know that isn't the proper name, it's actually called cornrows so before you cultural appropriate learn your facts! I'm so damn tired of people cultural appropriating.

Cornrows is not a trend it's been around in Africa and in a amarica black women have been chritisized and mocked and punished for wearing this and you dare to appopriate it and call what it's not.

They aren't cornrows. They're dutch braids, do you realise that braids don't just belong to African culture... These ones in particular were worn a lot by vikings, hence why they're called _dutch_ braids.

Faydra those are GODDESS BRAIDS. Vikings didn’t braid their hair like that due to them being very clean and not wanting their hair to smell. Africans been did this style way before Vikings existsed

@@maniszn5 You've got to be kidding me man. There's proof that vikings wore these, one clear example being the name.
