    Colored pencil art is hard work!! I made a sketchbook recently with some watercolor paper in it that i didn't realize had bad sizing. I had my entire first page drawn out and ready for painting when i realized, so i broke out some ancient colored pencils to use instead. It took ages!! Anyone out there doing colored pencil art, i admire your tenacity!

    I LOVE these Chromaflow Pencils. They feel so rich & creamy and layer easily creating subtle and sophisticated blends. I purchased the 72 Set & after using for awhile, realize I could have easily gone for a smaller Set as there are many colors that seem SO similar they're almost duplicates. As they blend so easily, a smaller set can render quite a lot of colors. Clearly I have my favorites as I've already re-ordered individual pencils to replace. I purchased quite a few Coloring Books (my favorite are Sugar Skulls) as its a great way to get familiar with using the colors and practicing many blends before working on an actual Art Piece. I sit all evening coloring and listening to AudioBooks !

    I have quite a few different Sets of Colored Pencils but it seems I reach for the CHROMAFLOW the most. They actually do blend well with other Brands but what I love most about Chromaflow is the creamy feeling most of the colors render and the vibrancy they render. Suggest practice layering different colors as I often get a surprise color I love ! (I suggest writing down which colors you used to create that specific surprise color as you might think you'll remember but .... ?)

I enjoyed seeing how they blend and the different techniques you shared that don’t require anyone to have any extra or special supplies other than the pencils themselves (and perhaps a tissue, which everyone most likely already has). I will be bookmarking this video and hope you don’t mind if I refer people to it when I share and talk about the set I have. TFS have a wonderful rest of your weekend!

    Another option for easier application of color pencils is Pastelmat from Clairfontaine. Or rougher textured paper that will grab and hold onto the pencil color! UArt makes several grades of sanded paper you might start with 600 or 800. 400 is the most common or most available, well around here anyways! Good luck!

    Skintones with wc dont require much brain either. Burnt sienna, hansa yellow or naple yellow, wichever you prefer and a hint of red. rest is more or less tonal values. Same with colored pencils; but with rheumatism blending can be a pain in the butt. I recommend zestit, bc its non toxic and even my sensitive to smell can handle it w/o getting a headache. Bennefit of zesit I find is you can layer over it, without damaging or filling the tooth of the paper.

    I'm curious to know what the chromaflow's strengths are. Are they their basic line, or do they tote something like richer pigments or lightfastness? I'm basically curious how they compare to prismacolours. What they claim to set them apart as well as your opinion on how they handle.

  • @thefrugalcrafter

    @thefrugalcrafter

    2 жыл бұрын

    They were designed to give the positive attributes of softness and vibrancy with a more stable core so less breakage compared to prismacolor. They are a bit softer than coloursoft and have a thinner barrel so they fit better in standard sharpeners where other Derwent pencils require a slightly larger sharpener. If you like prismacolor you will love these. All the benefits but none of the problems.
