You'd think they'd make those slip couplings wider for a stronger less stressful hold... especially for this application. And no, primer will not cause parts to stick once you apply pcv cement... parts will still slide together quite easily.

Too much stress on it. last guy probably did same thing and you see the result of that. You could have used a mall torch to do it..

That is one way of doing it, but as an electrician myself doing an underground job, and for the plumbers out there I would just invest in a heat box or blanket, it's much faster, but not knocking this at all

Yes, heat is definitely the better way to go! Now I always keep a heat gun with me on jobs.

You cut off about the same length of pipe as the 'stop' in the standard coupling. Looks like you put out a bunch of videos and I missed them. Know what I'm doing this lazy Sunday morning. I've missed seeing the progress on the garage apartment.

We have footage for about 10 more episodes already ... just trying to find time to edit them all. I'm actually narrating one right now, but the heat just kicked on, so I thought I'd check some comments while waiting for the noise to stop :-)

You can also heat PVC pipe to get the bend. Fill with sand, heat then bend. Let pipe cool then empty and you have bent pipe not under any stress.

I knew about in the heat, but not about the sand. Good tip! Thanks, Krugzug.!

The extra pvc cement you added to the outside of the fitting most likely did nothing to strengthen the connection or improve the seal.

I have actually fixed leaks on superficial PVC pipes doing that myself, it's usually a temporary/lazy solution I apply at home

Agreed, PVC cement "melts" two parts together, it doesn't actually provide its own seal. It's scientifically made to bond "interconnected" parts, it does nothing applied to the outside under any nominal pressure.

As a drainage technician I can safely say bending pvc either by heat or or cold will cause a premature failure point. I get many emergency calls for broken pipes in areas that have been bent. I'd say that bend will take about half the lifespan of the pipe away.

Seems would be better to put in angle pieces instead of bending it like this & leaving it in an extremely stressed state

I probably would have street 90* ed up each end and then hung up the phone on em’..90 on each end of the repair pipe. Good work, though and good video.
