Was that new bushing backwards? Btw, since you've started this KZread phenomenon known as DIY Dave, I (always a Honda/BMW guy) have now become the owner of a Corolla and a 4 Runner. Don't know what that says about me but I'm throwing it out there. Now I have to sell a few of my cars...

Dave I *do* have a better way! Keep everything the same but no need to touch the ramps… or jacks of any kind. The Sequoia is high enough already. I don’t mind the skid plate - it’s the jacks and ramps I hate to get out.

About the crush washer: as long as you dont wayyy overtorque them, they stay elastic enough to last a long time. Its just if you put them on super tight, it flattens them out, making them not as likely to seal nicely in the future

Valvoline has changed the Maxlife ATF additive pack to include CVT's now as well folks have been reporting issues with slippage on the new fluid might be worth keeping an eye on it. When I replace my ATF I do 2 spills and fills 5 quarts.

Cut a hole in the skid plate, seriously what's honestly stopping you. 90% of people or service centers just remove them. I cut a large hole in mine for my 09 accord to access the transmission plug and I've never regretted it once.

@@bigdaddymak1439 Is it though on a 15 year old vehicle with 200k+ miles? He's already acknowledged its annoying to remove every oil change, most vehicle older than 5 years no longer have their skid plates anyways. A hole to remove the filter solves the issue which the manufacturer clearly neglected. When my car finally dies at 400k+ miles I'm sure the fact my transmission bolt is accessible threw the skid plate will make a wonderful conversation starter while I'm on the side of the road.

Dave, you are a hopeless Toyota addict. Seek alternate mechanical attention. lol Q: Did you ever fill the Corolla w/ 70w Hardley Davison motor ole and a couple bottles of Motor Molasses? It works but you may not need to go all the way to that extent to slow it down to your satisfaction. I discovered it in my GM 5.7L/ 350 cid Diesels when blow by got to be a real problem. As previously stated, I was using 1 qt. of 10W-40 in 2 tanks of fuel, and I cut it down to less than 1 in 4 or 5 tanks. Also Too, I have a 1973 IH Cub Cadet lawn tractor that I tried it in just recently. I was seriously over heating it w/ out knowing and it began to eat Shell Rotella 15W-40 semi tractor engine ole at a rate of 6 oz per acre of grass mowed. It's got a very respectable Kohler K 301 12 HP (air cooled) engine and it's all original except tires. I wore out the fronts. I began having trouble 2 years ago but only figgered out just this spring what was going on. The cooling air inlet screen got coated w/ ole film over the past 50yrs and collected enough dust to slow the cooling air. It was so gradual who would suspect? There is no heat gauge to alert me. How hot does an air cooled engine run? And where do you measure the temp? (that's a crazy thing to ask google) It made a cloud of blowby smoke *(very old tech, crankcase vents to atmosphere, not to carburetor air) while mowing after about 30 minutes, when it got Hot Hot Hot. After I finally wised up and checked the screen, which is buried under the dash, gas tank and all sorts of covers, I did the best I could to clean that cooling air inlet screen w/ Brākleen Aerosol. I know even after a whole can it's probably not that clean, it's just so inaccessible. I had gone to straight 40W racing ole, but then figgered out what was making it get so hot. The 40W racing ole cut the blowby smoke and ole consumption down to barely noticeable after the acre of grass even on hot days. Proof of pudding. ben/ michigan

I think there's suppose to be a retaining clip to ensure the shift linkage doesn't walk off the dowel. Also, look forward to your results using Valvoline R&P in the Toyota. I just switched over on my '06 Mustang GT 345k based on "The Motor Oil Geek's" recent video. Consuming 1qt/800 miles for over 2 years now. Very little smoke out the exhaust. Replaced the stem seals last year with no change. Tried most of the additives you did with no change.

Wow ... 345k miles? ... I think you're right about the clip. It looked like it should have had one, but don't know how it would have come off ... unless the shop never put it back on after the shifter repair?? 😦

I just had my 2nd KIA piston soak done on my car after KIA America didn't want to give me a new engine after 1st piston soak fail. Car now has 69K. 1st piston soak was done at 66K I had them do an EPR 109 flush before each piston soak and had them fill with Valvoline R & P after 2nd soak. Have to wait another 1 k miles for result. I am revving WOT the engine a few times each work commute to try to break piston rings loose.

I don't usually comment on videos, but I just wanted to say this is one to the best explanations I have seen on this process. I love how you walk through your thought process of planning the job as part of the video; even what you would have done differently. Sometimes the why is just as important as the how. You touch on all the little things. Your videos are really great. Thanks and keep up the good work.

I would highly suggest replacing y our PCV Valve if you haven't yet. It's a wear item and the amount of things you've been putting stuff in here tells me it's prolly clogged or not resisting correctly as that spring might be wore out. Also, the amount of carbon and crap you've burned out of that engine and the chemicals you're burning goes through your cats and some through the evap system. If you replace your cat, the PCV Valve, then you'll prolly be fine on the engine light.

I have 2007 Tacoma 2.7L and I'm having the same issue. My dash battery light came on. I replaced the alternator and the battery read 12.3V but the alternator was fluctuating ranges from 11.2 to 14.3. It sucks that a new alternator from ebay would do this. I'm going to a nearby junk yard and pickout a used alternator. Thanks.

I found a company out of Australia FTC decarbonizer... its not cheap but dang we were impressed. The crankcase cleaner with fresh oil & then replaced the filter & oil b4 driving. The topend cleaner goes in the fuel & burns all or most of the carbon away from the top side. They now have an outlet in Utah. I now use it religiously! If the engine being treated was ever over heated & the rings loose their temper.... it will still smoke but nothing like b4.

Also this is going to loosen up and burn a lot of the carbon off inside of your combustion chamber and your exhaust manifold as well as,. next time since the spark plugs are out why don't you use to start at a cranky engine over five times: instead of procrastinating you don't need to sit there and make a long video take a picture of it so you'll have before and after pictures of the cylinders okay come on let's become more proficient, why don't you do a checklist like you're doing the military all the mechanics do check make sure your wrenches and tools are not under the engine or in the engine compartment make sure your battery connections are reconnected just make a list of what you need to check and do before and after okay come on let's become more of a professional mechanic, also you want to use some starter fluid when you first start to start your vehicle back up since you're going to have difficulty starting at use that to assist your engine and starting on the intake also you don't need to be like a sports announcer and say everything that comes into your mind? We all know that when you use cleaning fluids in your engine it's going to take a while to get rid of the smoke this is common if you used any seafoam or any of the intake manifold and exhaust cleaners this is a common practice and it does this So what had rather than sound like a sports announcer and blah blah blah just give us nothing but the facts okay: Walmart CURBSIDE Pick up today Restore 4-Cylinder Formula Engine Restorer and Lubricant - 9 oz. $7.97 Walmart 4.6 Since you're out driving and testing and stop by Walmart and get some engine restorer for your piston rings 4 Daniel oil, I've used this to restore compression and it works without a doubt! I would suggest you clean a spark plugs and use a very fine or small file if you got something about the size that you would use to Gap your plugs very small thin file also a wire wheel helps to clean off the grounding electrode as well as well as the threads,. Also since you have a vertical filter pre-fill your filter with oil before reinstalling it common silicone I can see these initial reviews or this video was at least a year ago so you should be checking back in on this video every month and see what people are rioting in and suggestions? The engine restore I have used on a 95 Lincoln Continental and I can tell you that I've got 100% results and compression restoration so if you want to bring your oil usage down to zero you need to try the engine restore! There is also a product called Blue Devil that's used for restoring compression by sealing the head gasket and the heads! And you have to follow directions exactly to the letter it may require two treatments but I use this on a previous car rather than getting the heads redone and head gaskets at that time but it was the best thing that I ever found to restore the compression and the heads along with the head gaskets considered a permanent sealer semicolon, if you want some advice on something to reduce the friction and where inside of your engine especially the piston piston rings valves cams transmission differential give me a shout out back on here so that I can see that there's a comment or somebody wanting some feedback on this on my comments and I will be glad to let you know what that product is
