How to Become a College Athlete | 5 Tips For the College Recruitment Process

Here are some of my best tips for the recruitment process! After going through it during the fall of 2017, I felt as if I had a lot of advice that I really wish I had known before going through the process myself! So, for that reason, this video is all about the recruitment process and it encapsulates some of the best tips I could think of!
Best of luck with the process and feel free to ask me questions if you need any advice!

    Thanks for making this video, it was super helpful. I’m applying to schools right now and am hoping to run at the next level, either on a D1 club team or D3 varsity. I ran a 17:14 in cross country this fall after running 20:08 two years ago when I started running, and think that I can keep up that improvement in college. I’ve been talking with coaches and was invited to come stay overnight, so pretty much all of these tips were applicable to me right now. I’m glad I watched this video because I feel more confident about who to take on this whole new level of picking a school.

    Hey Zach, I’m new to this channel but I love your content! I’m a senior in high school and only have 2 more cross country meets left but then track follows after. My fastest 5K time is 18:30 but I believe I can beat 18:00 before the season is over. My best 1600m time from last track season is a 5:07 but I know without a doubt that I’ll beat 5:00 this year. My best 800m time is 2:08. Do you think these times are good enough for some colleges? I know they’re not the best but I love running with everything I have and I want to keep going at cross country and track for as long as I can. Thanks!

    For a d1 college those times aren’t good enough to get any form of scholarship, but you could probably make the walk on team at the college you want, and if you get fast enough while you are in the team they can offer you a scholarship while you’re in college

I’m currently in 8th grade and my goal is to one day run in college, and it would be great to know what your times were throughout your years in high school so I could have an idea of how I need to progress. Thanks.

    I’ve been through the process as well and yes you can you don’t have to run D1 to run in college. You could drop time and still run D2 or D3 or even NAIA the decision is yours just put yourself out there. If you really want to run in college it’s possible.

    I ran some 17:40s as a freshman and then 16:40s as a sophomore and this year I had the blunt realization of the amount of work I should have put it instead of relying on talent . I only improved down to a 16:30 and a 15:57 3 mi.and instead of winning my state race. Which I should have done I ended up getting 3rd.My best advice is to get rid of excuses to not going on runs . Always get it done even if you aren't in the mood . It will set a positive precedent for the future . Ik for me it dropped my mile time dramatically and I hope you can find it in you to push yourself. It's a great feeling ! Best of luck

  • @ZachLevet

    There is no set cross country time that you have to run, but a lot of colleges have standards for track times that they like you to have hit before they talk to you or bring you on visits. Obviously, some schools are flexible and at the time that I talked to W&M, I actually didn't have the standards that they wanted!

    @tannerwilliams4366

    Super Saiyan no offense dude but a 1:57 isn’t good enough for d1 and d2 colleges to reach out to you. A 4:48 is much less impressive as well. I’m sure with decent training you could use your 1:57 in the 800 to drop to a 4:15-4:25 in the 1600. Colleges only reach out to runners that are one of the best in their state. You have to catch college attention. You can’t wait on them unless you’re running like a 4:10 in the mile and 1:53 in the 800. Best of luck sir. You still have a solid amount of time being that you’re only a junior

    That's so cool to hear that you also ran in 5A!! I love seeing the community that's forming here on this channel, so I must thank you for your support before anything. In regards to the cross country tips question, I actually made a whole video of tips!! kzread.info/dash/bejne/f62urK-whq-8f9I.html If you want some more tips or have any more specific questions after watching just reach out and let me know!! I have a ton of tips both broad and specific that I just didn't have time to address in the video. & I'd say your 800 may be the best, but as a sophomore, you'll probably see a lot of development in all areas as you get more training under your belt! I'd try to not specialize or define yourself as a runner till you've really established a clear niche! Just keep working hard each day at practice and never neglect to small things! Sleep, nutrition, and core/ from drills are small things, but they can have a huge impact on taking you to the next level!

  • @ZachLevet

    @ZachLevet

    5 жыл бұрын

    There are definitely opportunities for you to run in college, but I can't say at exactly what level yet!! Junior year is a big one for development, and it looks like you've already made a big leap from your outdoor track times (based off that one 5k time). I'd recommend just doing all you can to improve this year, but just try to not get too wrapped up in the times. If you're training hard, the times should follow, and improvements on your track times will be key for colleges! Best of luck and feel free to keep reaching out and updating me!! I'll always be here for advice
