That “strange” symbol on the trees is called the Odal rune and it is the rune of farming, odal farmers being, as the name implies, farmers. It is an hilarious mistake that could have been avoided by a simple Google search but it is also really annoying at the same time. They should have used the other rune that was seen in the cabin. Just leave enough food and water for them + something they could use to defend themselves in case they ever needed to. It was already a dangerous idea to go into the woods, even without the threat of bears, disease, dangerous plants and fungi, etc.

I thought about an alternate ending, it's the same but with a slight twist : The character makes it out of the forest then face the creature who can't follow him to insult it. He starts walking away as the god goes back to the darkness of the forest. The hero raises his head only to see that what he thought was the end of the forest is actually only a clearing inside of it (he's surrounded by trees). We hear the scream / laugh of the god as the character drops to his knees. He's trapped.

Another idea. The god just… steps out of the forest. The man stops laughing and just stands there, shocked and exhausted, as the God calmly and slowly walks up to him. It looms over the man, before slowly lowering its head, and eating the man’s head right as he begins to react. He was never trapped in the forest. He’s just… _handicapping_ himself.

Here is what I would do differently 1)Reality checks: This creature uses hallucinations as a weapon . I would try to ground myself in reality by focusing on my surroundings. Look for familiar objects or people that I know to be real. Touch and feel objects around myself to reinforce their physical presence. 2)Engage your senses: Engaging your senses can help distract your mind from the hallucination. Listen to calming music, smell pleasant scents, or touch something with a different texture. These sensory inputs can help shift your attention away from the hallucination. 3) Distraction - When this creature uses hallucinations. It is vital one finds a way out of it using distractions . I would hold some coins in a glass bottle and when I suspect I am hallucinating I would drop the bottle the coins rattling may help bring me to my senses. 4) Preparation - These jokers should have carried emergency flares and a satellite communication device that are designed to last long in the wilderness and that can be charged by solar energy. He should also have video taped the entire thing. Now he stands the risk of being blamed for all their deaths . 5) Navigation : When his magnetic compass malfunctioned The sun's position at sunrise and sunset provides cardinal directions, and shadows can be used to track its movement. Moon navigation involves using the moon's position to determine direction and approximate time. Its phases offer clues about the sun's location, aiding in both daylight and nighttime navigation. Moonrise and moonset times assist in estimating remaining light or darkness. While modern technology has reduced reliance on celestial navigation, understanding these techniques remains valuable for emergencies or situations where technology is unavailable. So this whole thing could have been avoided in the first place 6) Defence - When those gangsters at the liquor shop were about to murder his friend . It baffles me on why this silly fellow didn't hurl bottles at them or play some trick on them .From what I can see these fellows are drug addicts. And drug addicts are very paranoid. I would say didn't you see those police men outside and they would both look back in a hurry . I would then yank my mate back and pelt those two jokers with any bottles I lay my hand upon .

A few things Moder is actually a son of Loki so by invoking Odin's name would give moder pause as he fears the all father. Second most modern norse pagans don't say his name as its said to draw his attention and is likely to bring misfortune. I myself follow both Odin and Fenrir and wear a wolf's head talisman in honour of both of them and if I was in this situation and dealing with Moder at first glance would be invoking both names which should give him pause enough for me to escape as i know as a human i can't beat a Jotun son of loki

There is a saying that a man is ty-valiant who surpasses other men and does not hesitate. He was so clever that a man who is clever is said to be ty-wise. It is one proof of his bravery that the Æsir were luring Fenriswolf so as to get the fetter Gleipnir on him, he did not trust them that they would let him go until they placed Tyr's hand in the wolf's mouth as a pledge. And when the Æsir refused to let him go then he bit off the hand at the place that is now called the wolf-joint [wrist], and he is one-handed and he is not considered a promoter of settlements between people."

At the beginning of this video I was reminded of the C.S. Lewis quote (which I'm pretty sure comes from a proverb that predates him) "The longest way round is the shortest way home." In the context of Christianity is the idea that often we think we can take shortcuts and that it will be better for us than doing the longer, harder things, but God knows the dangers which lie on the shorter path that we don't. This movie seems to be a pretty good (albeit fictional) example and empirical picture of that proverb. While the proverb is dealing in more abstract ideas (not to cut corners in work, personal growth, etc.; it's not necessarily meant to be applied literally), this movie almost feels like it was made with that proverb in mind as a demonstration for it in a more literal sense. These guys likely thought that it would be a bad idea to take the longer path because of their friend's twisted ankle (relying on their own wisdom that seemed sensible enough, thinking a shorter trek would be better and safer), but they left the proven and tested longer path and entered into something much more dangerous because of it.

I would 100% be outta there back the way I came after seeing the markings in the tree. They're elder futhark runes, the first of which means estate/inheritance/ancestors, and the second two are runes of war and conflict. To me this suggests two sides fighting over possession of the area the markings are in (I haven't seen the rest of the video yet), but even seeing elder futhark runes carved into a tree shortly after seeing what is quite obviously a sacrificial offering, I'd be outta there. not even just cause it's creepy but cause I'm also Pagan and would leave as soon as I realised I was quite clearly trespassing on a site of religious importance.

I'd do it but for the opposite reason. I got a strong will and would like to live forever. However, I'd only do that after being forced to submit by the creature itself. At that point diplomacy and submission seems like the best course of action. If I got hunted down then hey, they earned it. That doesn't mean I'm going to just be a blind sheep however. I'd also ask/challenge the beast/god creature and the followers. See what kind of agreements and deals can be made. Maybe I could convince them to have willing sacrifices. I bet plenty of people would want too. Hell, get an inmate on death row. They can go out with a chance of "The gods might favor you in the afterlife" or something. They'd at least get a party first. I'd also be able to argue against those trying to stop it outright. Another cult would do it regardless. At least this way it's more "organized". With better odds of willing sacrificies. Or otherwise unwilling after capture when wars happen. etc. Backroom deals can be made to ensure there's a supply. After all, people in Africa get worked to death in mines. Companies take their water. Wagner kills civies, Blackwater gets away with shooting children. Why wouldn't it be possible when such things already happen? Imagine the plot this movie could have gotten into.

@@moskagisle7101 There is no "should" have. Things are as they are. Not as they "should" be. That's your expectations and what you want. Going "Sorry this and sorry that" is wasted guilt. There's quite enough of that. Correct, but do it without enabling guilt. I lost someone to suicide once. I let myself be blamed. Easier for the other I figured. Maybe I could have tried harder though. Reached out more at the time. So trust me, I know the situation. Standing there. Doing nothing. Wondering why. It's like that. Except in the situation in the movie it's got the added "Act and risk your own neck" factor as well. Was it because of being a coward? Maybe not. Could have been "Not knowing what to do". The flashbacks are showing guilt. Regret. I assure you, they know they could have done better. Just didn't know how. Or is it because of a choice to not get involved due to the danger? In which case being a coward would apply. The answer itself is less important. What's more important is knowing any number of events can be at play.
