Yes, please make more videos like this and I would love to go through your daily routine with you. I'm not quite 65 but retired a little over a year ago. My husband said I would be bored if I retired. He soon found out that I am never bored. There's plenty to do at home, with my grandkids/kids and a volunteer one afternoon a week. Life is what you choose to do while you can and where God leads you.

I am 85….86 in a couple weeks! I feel I worked hard all my life and now that I am retired, I feel I earner it and when I sit and read a book half the day or work on Scrabble games etc.,on line, do Volunteer work at the retirement community where I live, I refuse to feel guilty. I was one who had to be doing something all the time….and I am enjoying my ‘down time’. I lost 2 husbands to cancer and that is the hardest part of my retirement! Blessings to you as you share. I love your KZread blogs but do miss seeing your hubby lately. 🙏

The older I get the more I see that I have to be more intentional in how I spend my days. I have been retired 3 years and I can stay as busy as I want to be. There is always something I want to do, need to do or make plans to do. I am not bored. Blessings to you and Jason.

I’m 58 and have not worked outside the home for quite a few years. When covid hit and we all were locked down, I started watching KZread and taught myself how to quilt. I barely could even thread a sewing machine when I started! I absolutely love doing it. It is so therapeutic and the bonus is that I have found a whole new group of like minded friends! I need to concentrate on better sleep habits. Due to health issues, it is a challenge for me.

I spent 5 decades being productive! As I'm retired, I don't think of my life in those terms anymore. Of course I have to get things done, but most days I just do what I enjoy, whether that's crochet and watch KZread, play a game on my phone, read a book, whatever. I'm pretty good about not feeling guilty about it.

I’m retired, my husband died in December of ‘22. He was sick for 8 yrs and the last 18 months he required lots of one on one care and many hospitalizations. So I was very busy. Now that he’s been with Jesus for 13 months, I am very busy, but with plenty of time for outings with friends, Bible study groups, etc. I think retirees are as busy as they want to be!

I’m 73 and I’ve been retired since I was 55. I don’t have a lot of desire to be productive. I don’t have a lot of things that have to be done. Granted basic cooking and cleaning and things around the house but I don’t HAVE to do anything. I always say after 38 years of working with no longer than a one or two week vacation some years I deserve to sit on my butt and scroll on my iPad.

When I retired I was working in an ER in a trauma hospital. I found it difficult to adjust to having time on my hands. Everything from learning how to eat normally and enjoy my food to learning how to use the bathroom without feeling like I have to rush. I really wasn't ready to retire but my husband was. He wanted to travel America in our RV. I enjoyed this as long as we were on the move. I didn't know how to feel in the moment. I felt like I needed to be busy. There are people like me out there that don't know how to be retired.

I need something to get me motivated. When I was getting out and going to cardiac rehab I had more energy . Of course I was exercising three times a week. I just need winter to be over. My hobby now is crossword puzzles. Great video. And I will watch whatever you do❤ oh, Cooper is precious ❤❤

Great tips, Leslie. Being retired I discovered I was procrastinating doing the things I don’t like thinking I had time for them later. But if I pay bills, handle household issues, prep taxes etc. early in the week it takes a lot of stress off me because like you I’m in charge of everything. That gives me time to enjoy my sewing, cross stitching and other things I like to do without worrying as much about the other stuff.

Happy birthday to a beautiful 50 year old! I retired at 72 years old and I enjoy lots of “down time” after working 50+ hours per week at a very fast paced job. I loved working and loved the people I supported, but now love my no pressure, no demands, home environment! 😎🙏. However, my goal for 2024 is to keep my body moving and spend less time on my iPad. I am now exercising 2 hours per day and I really feel like I am accomplishing something. I think I will try a new hobby for my downtime; I will start with a puzzle - maybe my husband will join me! 😎. I like all of your ideas! 🙏❤️🙏

I retired a year ago from nursing, also night shift, to care for my husband who has FTD. I was lucky and had enough years plus age to collect KPERS and just now social security. I've started doing puzzles again and have coloring books to do. Also decluttering and redecorating. Trying to simplify things. I would love to keep a sleep schedule but my husband now isn't sleeping well and changes his clothes all night. This will pass as he progresses so I just wait out the phases. No, I'm definitely not bored being retired! I do miss being able to just jump in the car and go to the store and run errands or go shopping though.

I keep a month-at-a-glance calendar for all the important dates, and counting backwards for any prep required. I made my own weekly template with the basic daily chores /routines filled into specific timeslots. I try to plan jobs for the same day each week, such as errands, garbage day, admin tasks, baking, filling out next week's calendar and menu, helping my fledgling-children, cleaning, pet care, acts of service, finances, yard work, etc. Early each week I use the template to make a specific plan for the following week, and consulting the month-at-a-glance calendar and my project /goals notes to prioritize. Every morning, as part of my routine, I take some quiet time to use the weekly calendar and write tomorrow's lists and agendas for myself and my husband (who has pre-dementia). Then, I check yesterday's lists to catch any tasks that didn't get done and reassign them to a different day. Finally, I review today's list /agenda, edit as needed, and go over my husband's with him. I use google-timers for my husband, and sometimes for me if things are hectic. I defrost for tomorrow's dinner each day (cooking once - with leftovers - and eating twice), do the day's tasks, and set a timer so I get dinner started on time in case there are distractions. (Someone once said to make room in the plan for interruptions!) In the morning, I also lay out tomorrow's clothes for us both, check both our emails, throw in the first load of laundry, scan the news (though my mental health can't take a deep dive), dress for the day, make sure my husband is good to go and has taken his meds, and do a quick top-to-bottom house tidy. Sometimes I even get to have breakfast! As groceries need to be added to the list, I add them immediately to my online order. Throughout the day, I supervise my husband's tasks to make sure he isn't stumped and or hasn't forgotten to finish them (as opposed to several started, but nothing completed, or not done correctly). My hobbies shift and wane, but I try to spend 10 - 20 minutes on a sudoku every day. Usually after supper when he's gone to bed, I fold and put away the laundry, do another quick tidy, have some down time (watch Charming Abode!). I am more of a nigh-owl, and I often get a second wind in the evening. As part of my night routine, I play quiet music, have a bubble bath and get ready for bed by candle-light. My body recognizes these signals and it helps with unwinding. Honestly, my sleep often suffers from trying to get everything done, or worrying about things (lots of positive self-talk needed!), but I have learned over the years that I can cope better with fatigue than I can with chaos. I try to do something fun for me, even something small, on the weekend. Maybe a walk, tea with a friend, reading a book, or popcorn and a movie at home. I learned over the years of homeschooling my kids and caring for my mom with Alzheimer's that success for me meant planning. It didn't come easily and it's not sexy, but it works ;)

I love to cook, I enjoy a clean home and since I don’t get much assistance in that regard, I do spend a lot of time cleaning house, doing laundry and handling our finances. I have a few hobbies, but don’t seem to enjoy them that much anymore. I don’t know how you manage to stay so, positive. I love your positivity! My struggle is not staying busy, my struggle is staying positive, it’s easy to feel as if your life is nearing the end and to look back at all your mistakes ( senseless, I know).

Great advice. I am retired, but my days are really full. I cook for 6 people so I need to menu plan and make sure that I am using leftovers. I will usually do a load of laundry in the morning. This time of year I am decluttering just 5 things each day with a friend of mine. It's fun to hear what we are decluttering. I love to bake and love to cook, so that is a big part of my day. I have also been a rubber stamper for over 35 years and am still just as passionate about my hobby. I get together with other stampers and now am working on Valentine cards. After dinner I spend some time either on the computer or watching something on TV with my hubby. I do go to bed about the same time each night, but like to get in about 30 minutes of reading each night. I would love to see your morning routine. This year I would like to get a little more exercise in and have a new puppy so she should keep me on track.

70 in three weeks. Retired at 64, burned out nurse…….tried to top off at 45 years career, made 44. But that’s another conversation. Point: have NEVER been bored…….am grateful I’m retired every single day. I will say, I kept bedtime, awakening time schedule. But im sipping coffee in my pajamas, watching the clock……happily watching the times of “gotta shower, gotta eat, gotta go” tick by. A reward! I do make my bed pretty soon after im up. Shower, DO put a touch of makeup on (thanking older ladies on KZread) and then I organize where I need or want to do next. Cleaned closets, cabinets, down sized as in Danish Death Cleaning and off to thrift stores or garbage. Pay bills on first errand or online. I do volunteer…….makes you feel purposeful. I’ve contemplated getting a fun, little job but couldn’t take time off to travel etc so volunteer situation works. But im never saying never…… Read Read Read Take a class. My kryptonite? My iPad and KZread……. But she’s right. “Schedule a time and stick with it”

Happy Birthday! You give 110%!!! Great job on putting together points and making it pretty! I think it's so important to give yourself time to try new things and give it a priority. I've always wanting to go glaze stoneware or paint pottery. I don't consider things a bucket list but instead of waiting for someone else to want to do that too and bring someone else along I had it in the back of my mind and it felt like I couldn't concentrate on anything else and put the idea away too many time and woke up and said this is my goal today first and foremost. An outing to do what I wanted as just important as helping achieve someone else's desires. I felt it was a step of faith in fulfilling my own desires and not having to have anyone's encouragement, excitement or permission. How often we push back what actually could encourage deeper understanding and development. It says in scripture that hope deferred makes one weak. We must have hope and sometimes realizing and giving space for a dream or a desire creates hope in future endeavors. 🎉❤

Yes! I Agree, mourning routine starts my day off on the right foot. This 2024, Is my renewal on getting well balanced and save time for me. Routines and priorities are needed. Tech is something one has to keep in another room like you mentioned. One has to form a new habit control your mind don’t let it control you. You have hit the nail on the head sweet Lisa. I am 77 and have to be in charge of many things as my husband of 58 year is unable. I keep my self always grateful and praise God for his constant grace . Prayers and love to you and Jason.

Great video. Morning routine would be great. Retired nurse in my 60’s. Taking care of an almost 17 year old doggie I feel like night duty all over. Trying to help her through this time. She has “sundowners” and eyesight not so good any more. 😢❤️🙏. My you tube is my get away. Thank you for being there ❤️

One thing that helps me is to break bigger things down into smaller tasks and doing one each day, instead of putting pressure on myself to work nonstop until it's finished. I also put major things on my phone calendar. Making an appointment with myself is motivating.

You were point on in this video. When my dad retired he did not have one hobby except working in the yard when he could no longer do that all he did was watch tv and nap. I believe when we have no hobbies we do in our younger years that carry over to when we get older its hard to start something new in your 60's 70's and 80's. Love your new videos.

Yes, I would love to see your morning routine! I am 55 and retired and there are days I get a lot done, and there are days I don’t 😂 but I do get up every morning make my bed, do my treadmill and get ready for the day. That seems to help me get on track For whatever the day may bring. I do like decluttering and organizing my home but that takes a lot of brain power and some days I don’t want to be making decisions all day long on what to keep and what to get rid of and what to organize. My husband is also retired so we do spend a lot of time together so that’s fun 🎉

I know for me I had. Crazy mindset that now I don’t need a schedule….that couldn’t be further from the truth. Now I struggle trying to find things to do. So I know how important having a routine is. It can be a struggle if you don’t have things to do

I know this is a over 50 channel, but as a mom I need advice from moms who have adult children. I am so nervous about doing parenting right and my kids turning out good and making sure they want to come home someday. I'd love advice and wisdom from one mom to another on how to deal with teenager ages and when they drive and get jobs. How will it all go? Did you worry? Anything you did that you feel made a difference in your relationship with your kids? My goal as a mother is to have a close relationship with my kids and make sure they are safe and responsible. Hoping you can talk a little on this topic but I understand if you're trying to keep it to 50 and up. ❤

I am retired and have full days every day. In fact, I spent the Holidays in Tokyo with my son and his family and I'm still recovering . Ha ha ha! I do my morning routine: a.m. chores, reading, updating my planner, work out four days a week, and I shop twice a week and I may catch a movie and have coffee while I'm out. I also write and am working on Fan Fiction right now. I'm single but not dating at the moment but thinking it's time to get back into the game. Ha ha ha!

I’m a 57 year old retired school teacher and I can’t believe how busy my days are! I thought the planning was just something I did because it was such a giant part of my life as a teacher, but I continue to look weeks and months ahead to plan what I need/want to accomplish. I make time to do things that I enjoy, but sometimes not as much as I should. I thoroughly enjoyed this video. Welcome to your 50s, it is a wonderful age in many ways!

I’ve got retiring on my mind and yes, worry about being productive. I too am a nurse and you know it’s always busy. So how will I fill my days? I know I will have to have a plan/ schedule when retired. I was off for a 10 week stretch and you can only clean out the closets and cabinets so many times. I painted walls and decorated and yes did puzzles too, but still days of what am I going to do today? I really appreciate your videos and always learn something from you!

Of course your decor videos are very helpful even though I have a small home and don't entertain much. I still set a table. You are so right about morning routines. It sets the day ! Thanks for your videos! Always looking for them 🙂
