In the US, 2/3 of all high school graduates never read another book. About a quarter of all people who receive their bachelor's degree never read another book. That is sad nd, for mr, unthinkable. What do I do? I have a passion for travel, seeing the world and how others live. I also meditate which calms the body (lower blood pressure, less adrenaline, etc.), mind and soul. Been doing that for decades. I am a bibliophile and love to read, especially science fiction with its endless speculations, but also history, spirituality, biography, and occasionally art, architecture, mathematics and other scientific fields. I also like to use my tools to keep the house fine-tuned. And I cook using several cuisines (American, Hispanic, Chinese, French and Italian most prominently.

Love this. I've embraced this outlook since I read Jon Kraukauer's book "Where Men Win Glory" about Pat Tillman 10+ years ago, as a young man in my early 20's. Since then, I've: -Gotten a Master's degree in public health -Traveled extensively for both business and pleasure -Built a career -Lived in a foreign country and learned to speak another language fluently -Have run several marathons and half marathons -Took up Taekwondo -Continued taking courses in storytelling, marketing and business leadership -Practiced photography -Learned to cook -Learned to backpack and mountaineer -Devoured interesting books, podcasts, and KZread videos like this And there's still so much left to do. Young men would be wise to watch videos like this and build practices and rituals in their lives as to make them a "Universal Man". Well done on this video! Keep 'em coming.

"The superior man is he who develops in harmonious proportions his moral, intellectual, and physical nature. This should be the end at which men of all classes should aim, and it is only this which constitutes real greatness." Douglass Jerrold Leonardo da Vinci, Benjamin Franklin, and Theodore Roosevelt are examples of Universal men. Regarding development of the soul, having universal and specific purpose, along with developing virtues, character, values, and ethics develop the soul. Philosophy, Psychology and personal development can develop the soul. Art, cooking, and music were mostly creatrd to satisfy the soul.

This is such a stellar message, and I hope other men truly see the value in having this ideal. On a personal note, I’ve always strived to be a “Renaissance Man” because I believe there is no better way to live life. Gentlemen should be “modern knights” & embrace this ideal along with a revival of chivalry. Blessings & respect to you, this is widely needed in the culture right now 🙏

A good and important message, one I hope is seen and heard by many. I have been a musician (guitar piano and trumpet) all of my life and whilst I have retired from professional performance I still teach and gig occasionally for friends to keep my hand in. A vital teaching message is that its not just learning an instrument, but the effect it has on your whole life. I am naturally passionate about art, and equally passionate about classic cars. Like you, Jaguar is my favourite marque, the XJ6 in particular. I devote a lot of time to keeping my latest incarnation of that fine machine in the best of condition. An important point is that passion involves effort and discipline. Watching an exercise video whilst munching chocolate isn't going to make you fit. Watching a guitar tutorial doesn't make you a guitarist. Same for style and dress, one must put the effortin. All things of value require action and dedication. I'm 70, based in UK and enjoy your videos greatly. Have a great life, you have the ingredients to do so. Keep them coming. Just a thought, It would be good to tell your audience who you are, I like having a name! Certainly not a criticism but it's nice to know. Best wishes Richard Batty

I enjoy reading but don’t do it as much as I used to because I get lured easily by TV or KZread…. I can cook well, but wouldn’t call myself a gourmet…. What would be a lesser scale of “universal man”? LOL

I’m an engineer by trade but for the past 3 years I’ve enjoyed doing theatre as a hobby. I’ve acted in several shows and now I’m directed my first. The only downside to being a “universal man” as it were is it can very quickly become overwhelming if you have too many hobbies or interests. Either too much money spent or not enough time to do everything you want to. Or in my case, both. I think it pays for us Zoomers to try as many things as possible, figure out what you like, and prioritize a few in each category you mentioned. I make sure to keep up with my fitness and nutrition, stay involved with my church, and keep training to be a better engineer in my field, as well as devoting time I have to the theater or any of my other hobbies.

Hello Gent Z, when you mention "the universal man", there is one man in particular that comes to my mind, and he is Jorge Newbery. He is a more modern example than Da Vinci, althoguh not as wel known. He was born in Argentin and lived in the late 19th and early 20th centruy, he was an electric engineer, performed very well in sports like boxing, was also a pioneer in aviation, among other things. He died flying an aircraft. I think that there are things that must be learnt from him.

Great video and very eloquent on the subject of the 'Universal Man.' Always a pleasure to hear from you! By the way, did you go to college? I don't remember if you had said so. If you haven't and you are thinking about going because you were told it is still an 'intelligent environment,' I think you will be sadly disappointed. University is just a great big joke now, and a rather crazy, liberal and expense joke now. To become that 'Renaissance Man' you really can't rely on the school systems of today. In fact, they actually keep men from becoming their true, sophisticated and intelligent self. Thanks again!

Luckily we don't live once. As a personality we do but the spirit reincarnates in different historical ages and cultures. We practically inherit our own past artworks, culture, science etc. We are now in the process towards a new Renaissance - which will start from Italy again. Here is my version of universal man: Spirit - social studies such as Anthropocracy and spiritual development (reading and exercises) based on Anthroposophy. Art practice - sculpture research. Soul - painting, poetry and music. Walks in nature. Social life - newly acquired skills (from spiritual practice) are practiced and applied. Body - swimming in the sea, no gym, no alcohol, no smoking, good diet and occasional supplements. Yearly check-ups. Weekly exercise at home. Daily walks at home. Live and work internationally.

Dear Gent, With all due respects, becoming a Universal Man requires a well above average IQ amongst other things, so the notion that he is made is incorrect. If your IQ is simply average, or worse below average, then no amount of effort on your part will make you a Universal Man. No no no no! Stop using the term "universal man", the proper term is Renaissance man. If we are to bring this into peoples vocabulary, we cant be using wording like "universal", sounding like one of the 100 gender mental asylum fugitives. Another term you should look into and aspire to become, is a Gentleman farmer. Believe me, the freedom of having hundreds of acres at your disposal, just to get out of the city is like nothing else. And yes, you can be both a renaissance man and a gentleman farmer.
