Would graphic design be a good field to go into considering everything currently going on with AI? I've also heard there's a lot of competition so people in the industry end up jobless. I've applied to a few unis for graphic design and gotten accepted into one so I wanna make sure I'm making the right choice!

These are great questions! With regard to AI - it’s a huge topic of discussion in the creative space, for sure. Some people are excited about its potential, and some people are afraid of losing jobs or being replaced. My personal opinion is that AI is just a tool, and it still requires people who know what they are doing to use it. At this time it may be able to write posts, or generate images, but image generators can’t talk to clients or make revisions, and copy made with Chat GPT will still need to be proofread and edited. So, even when using these tools, it still requires a bit of additional work to get things to a good place. While we have already been using AI within many of the features built into Adobe’s programs, a lot of companies and agencies are still skeptical of sites like Midjourney or Dall-E because there’s no real way to know where they’re pulling images from when it scrapes the internet to create a piece of art. Because of this, there is a lot of copyright and legal concerns, especially when it comes to using AI for any type or commercial works. Unlike stock photo sites, it’s very difficult to license something that can’t really be traced to a single creator when it’s made from hundreds or thousands of pieces of information based off of the work of others. So, while AI has its advantages, I don’t think that it is ever going to completely replace the need for artists and designers any more than cameras have replaced the need for photographers. To answer the second part of your question, I think there will always be a healthy amount of competition in creative fields. Part of the reason for this is because there are more people who want creative jobs than there are good opportunities for them. That said, I strongly believe that as creatives we have to do things like diversify our income streams as I talk about in my first point of the video. Doing this can provide alternative methods for making a living without relying solely on a single employer or job opportunity. The other way that creatives can overcome the competition hurdle is by developing skills that can translate to different types of jobs or industries so they can cast a wider net and in turn, become more marketable. An example of this would be a key art designer like myself who can do poster design, but apply those same skills to things like book covers, concert posters, sports graphics, retouching, branding, etc. Another example of this would be someone who wants to pursue a career in UI/UX so they might also to develop some web design and branding skills. Doing this allows you to be able to apply for a wider ranger of opportunities which will inherently help your chances of finding more work. At the end of the day, I think there is room for everyone, so I wouldn’t feel too discouraged. If you are following your passion and doing something you love, you can never go wrong. @@Shaheer7X in terms of the pay I would say yes. When I was just starting I didn’t immediately make a lot of money, but if you work your way from being entry level to a junior designer, to a senior designer, to an Art Director, Creative Director etc there is a lot of earning potential. Of course this is also kind of subjective based on the cost of living where someone lives, but I live in NYC where things are pretty expensive and have been able to make a great career out of graphic design over the last 15-16 years.

Hi Debbie 👋 to get the recolor artwork panel select your colors and then go to Edit > Edit Colors > Recolor Artwork. Hope this helps! 😊
