How to be a Great Surgery Medical Student

This video covers basic advice on how to be an excellent medical student on a surgical rotation. I use this to help medical students that are going to rotate on service with me be prepared to hit the ground running.
We cover the basics of what a typical day on surgery entails, and the medical student's role during each of these activities. We talk about following patients: how many, which ones? We go deep on how to be a good team player with our surgical team, and how to use your list for maximum learning and effectiveness. I give some pointers on how to handle the OR when you are setting foot there for the first time, and how I recommend medical students prepare for their assigned cases. Finally, we close with some advanced topics on how to start closing the gap between an excellent medical student and preparing to be an intern.
