How to be a Good Case Manager
Hi everyone! I hope everyone is staying safe and continuing to fight what is right. I have decided to upload a video that is a little different than the norm where I give you guys my tips and advice on how to become a good/effective case manager. Based on societal norms, we as social workers never have the best representation and what our profession stands for tends to be misunderstood. So here are my advice on how to overcome that obstacle if you are a case manager. Please keep in mind that these are based on my experience and how it has worked for me. If you have questions please don't hesitate to leave a comment in the comment section or email me directly.

About me:
Hey loves! My name is MyAnh and I recently graduated from Barry University with my Masters in Social Work. My channel will be focusing on post-grad life, social work, and life style content. I would love to use my channel to bring awareness to what social work is because the term social work has had a bad stigma in our society of just taking kids away from their family. I’m here to tell you all that there is more to social work than what the world portrays the career to be. Please come along for the journey and like and subscribe to my channel! Videos will be uploaded every Sunday.

Yep well said. They feel inadequate 'cause they care. Other workers tick a few boxes, clock off, and aren't really invested in their clients, but don't feel inadequate.
I’m overwhelmed right now as a case manager. 😩 I LOVE helping people, but I’ve been at my organization for 4 months and I feel incompetent. Sometimes I feel like I’m not good enough to do this job.

It’s truly so difficult at times. It feels nice to not feel alone though. ❤️ I know all of our hearts are dedicated to helping others. It’s just so hard when the assessments/paperwork piles up and we feel like we’re drowning.

From 6:24, very important to set boundaries and not to get too emotional. We are not clients' secretary and we stress on empowerment (client make their own decisions and do things on their own if they are able to) not dependency.
Great video! "Set boundaries, rules, and expectations!" ❤
You’re freakin killin it! I’m so proud of you!
I have an interview tomorrow, this was so helpful keep going you are amazing!
I agree with you that it’s important to keep consistent communication. But sometimes I am afraid of getting a list from them and it increases my workload😔
I am going to be a case manager. Thank you for all the tips you have mentioned in this video. Super helpful!!
I’m about to start next week for neo as case manager! This was a great video please make another video on what activities you do with your clients and especially how you engage them during visits. Thank you again!! Love it and just subscribed !!
You must be an absolute asset to your company. I suggest a review at the end of the video, like review Tips 1-6
You hit everything correctly, because self care is necessary!!!
Thank you for the good advice. I will be starting my Case Manager position soon so this was very helpful.
Girl, your clients will just be cured by your beauty. Wow
Thank you so much...I will work on setting boundaries and self care 🦋💕🦋💕
100 percent agree with all of these points. Every single point is something I have learned on this job. These points are helpful to hear at the beginning of a job in case management, and it really would be good to revisit every few months! I'd add being in touch with our own issues or triggers in life is important too. We have to recognize if someone's trauma response may trigger us. For example I know if someone is yelling and swearing, even if not at me, (like in a meeting where they are just upset or yelling at another person)... I know it is extra exhausting because I'm sensitive to being yelled at. I don't take it personally, but it definitely puts me on high alert. By being aware of that issue, I can talk to myself internally and manage the situation so much better. I also know that I need to process the situation after so am lucky to have a supervisor who is super supportive of my need to just talk it out and let it go. Due to privacy requirements its important to me to work in a setting where an allowed person is available to do that with on a routine basis. That has allowed me to continue to work with such deserving consumers, for a long period of time. I truly feel honored to be their support and want to make sure I'm mentally healthy and can do a good job for them.

I am a case manager and I loved hearing your POV. I think I'm getting burned out and really needed to hear this from someone who does the same thing I do!

I know this was a year ago that you posted this, however, the best time to deal with burn out is when you start 'thinking' that you are becoming that way. It's not an easy thing to do but case workers, and anyone in social services need to use self reflection tools to see where we are at, and also have a counselor/therapist set up long before any issues arise. I hope you are well!

That’s what I was thinking. She is judging people for not consistently keeping touch, and my first thought was she must not have many clients. She has good advice but she needs to consider her audience and give a disclaimer like this is my advice from the perspective of someone that has 50 clients Or something similar.
Really great tips! Thank you so much💕

Pretty straight forward honest lessons
Thank you for this video, very informative. I am new at doing this job. I would be interested on a video creating a care plan with clts. That includes global needs so that medi-cal billing reimbursement can happen. A billing video would also be helpful.
Did you ever make the video showing how you organize your resources?

I was thinking about going to school studying for the certificate program but I don't know exactly what it is... I feel like I was set up for failure at my organization. I was new with no experience in the program & CM- within the 1st 6 months 4 people quit because of pressure from leadership and the county. There’s no support for CM’s. I still feel overwhelmed and like idk what I’m doing 🥲
