How to Bank Fish Missouri River - Catfish, Carp, Sturgeon

When fishing the Missouri River, you never know what you may catch (carp, sturgeon, catfish, turtles, buffalo fish, gar). To optimize your odds of success, fish worm with a 2/0 circle hook on the bottom, using a 4oz to 8oz weight depending on the current. I recommend 20-30lb test line. I also always keep a line in the water with a cut bait or live bait on a 5/0 to 10/0 circle hook with 40+lb test line.
Best of luck fishing in 2020!

I know exactly where this is. It’s about a mile from my house. I normally get there by boat. I’ve run sonar through that hole, it’s deep, like 40 feet. I like to fish back behind the deep hole there is a big tree pile on sonar. It’s always packed with fish and for some reason I also catch lots of sturgeon in this stretch of river.

My friend caught a 58 lb blue in the Missouri River on 12 lb test just north of Kansas City. It’s doable but if you fish near snags(you should) you want 80 lb mono or 100 lb braid and 60-80 lb abrasion resistant fluorocarbon leader. 10+ years catfishing on the Missouri River and other Missouri rivers.
