HOLSTER RECOMMENDATIONS & RELATIONSHIP DISCLOSURES:
PHLster Holsters:
Jon and Sarah Hauptman of PHLster Holsters are leading the way in holster design and quality standards. Not only do I work for this company, as their Director of Customer Development, but I also use their products on a daily basis. My chosen concealed carry set up includes an Enigma Express equipped with a sport belt, and DIY paracord leg leash. Note that a lot of the resources I'll be sharing with you below will come from PHLster, but that is solely because they have the most robust and built out resources on the topic of concealment success.
You can find my Skeleton Holster review here: • PHLster Skeleton Holster
Written Enigma Reviews: www.armedandst...
Henry Holsters:
Henry Holsters is run by Andrew Henry, the inventor of the Modwing, and the king of comedy. Andrew is a wizard at design, efficiency, and manufacturing. In addition to designing and selling holsters, he also manufactures the Enigma Express, Floodlight, Pro, Summit, and Skeleton Holsters from PHLster. I would consider Andrew a friend. I have purchased all of my own Henry Holster products.
You can find my Flint Compact review here: • Henry Holsters Flint C...
JM Custom Kydex:
I have no relationship with JM Custom Kydex. If you're looking for a quality holster for an unusual gun, they're the most likely to offer exactly what you're looking for. Make sure to check out their "quick ship" options before building out something custom as it will take longer to arrive.
Dark Star Gear:
This company is owned by Tom Kelly. His Hitchhiker holster was the first quality concealment holster I ever owned, and it has served me very well with both my Glock 48, and my Glock 42. Although I don't have a relationship with Tom, I did receive my Hitchhikers for free as a gift from my friend John Johnston, who is sponsored by Dark Star Gear.

This is one of the BEST holster videos on KZread and I really could’ve used a one stop shop video with all this information when I started carrying. I am aware of most of the info you shared but it literally took me a few years and a TON of money and frustration to finally find what works well. You have a fantastic channel and I hope you continue making content. BTW I’m starting my pistol red dot journey with a 407k on my shield plus and your video helped me make that decision. Darkstar has been working out well since you recommended it last year or so in another video, I've been using one several months now for 16+hrs/day. I still like my Las Concealment better slightly better design but they only offer mid height sweat guards and I prefer full guard that Darkstar offers. Solid suggestion is workin out well, only thing I don't like is the lack of mag release cover / indentation to protect from an accidental release incase of rolling around in a tussle. But so many holster don't have that awesome feature so it's hardly a deal breaker. As for wedges I just use the tear drop foam wedge which molds to your body shape after about a month of daily wear and a cheap Clinger Velcro on pad makes a kydex holster as comfy as a leather backed hybrid holster that's much easier to wash when ya sweat over time that leather just gets kinda funky over years of wear. And the Clinger pad can be placed to slightly overlap and areas that may poke you throughout the day.

One part to add to be covered is belt clip or loop attachment. I have found after trying multiple holsters that only have a single clip or loop that the holster changes angle or rotates regardless of the type of clip or loop and belt interface. I also prefer a little spread between the clips or loops so the gun doesn't sag or rotate some when the clip/loop attachments points are very close together. These aren't factors since switching to the Enigma but previous belt carry they were significant even with the best clips.

Great video! You cover SO MUCH that’s typically left out of most AIWB holster videos. 1. The wedge at the muzzle. This is an absolute game changer for concealment and comfort. 2. AIWB holster length. As you’ve stated, most people benefit in comfort and ability to conceal from a little more holster length. That “keel principle”. Many people that are new to AIWB think the shorter the holster the better, but are surprised to find the opposite is true for them. For my G43x, I use a G48 holster with muzzle wedge from JM Kydex….which is totally making me wonder why I’m not just carrying the G48 with it’s improved sight radius….hmmmm. For my G19, the standard length holster works alright, but a G17 length is even more comfortable…which is also making me wonder why I’m not just carrying the G17. Again, hmmm…… My go to is JM Custom Kydex, but also don’t forget Keepers Concealment. Spencer’s holsters are fantastic, and utilize both the foam wedge and additional length. Thanks again for the content. Your videos constantly include content that most others leave out.

Tenicor Velo4 appendix holster is my absolute favorite for my P365X, followed by my Tier 1 Axis Elite when I want or need a sidecar style. Both of these holsters are fantastic! You were spot on about a lot of holsters having their concealment wing too close to the holster and it interfering with your ability to make a reliable purchase on the firearm. This is a point that doesn't get nearly the coverage that it needs, well done!

Your statement on the customization process is nothing but true. The first IWB holster I had for my first Glock 17, actually started out as a uncle mikes Open carry unit. But after Applying a fair amount of alterations and incorporating A couple of different parts from different holsters, I ended up with a perfect concealment piece that complemented my day to day Application. Lol that holster has been gone for several years, and now I have no recollection of all the details involved to make a duplicate. 🚀✨🚀✨🚀

So basically what I've learned after buying my first holster (a trex arms sidecar btw) is that I need to lose weight, because in order for me to tuck the grip even somewhat well I have to have the gun really low which makes my belt sink low in the front which looks weird with my shirt up. I got a set of wedges from T1C, the wide sizing pack to be specific, and I'm still not sure it's making that much of a difference. Furthermore, I have a TLR7A and now I'm wondering if I'd be better off getting a TLR1 so the holster is longer and wider at the base. Sounded backwards until I actually put on the holster and realized it felt short and pointy.

Best holster I’ve purchased was a bravo concealment OWB. I’ve tried JXtactical fat guy holster, Alien gear, Tulster. Carrying appendix is just a nightmare for me because I’m 6foot 260 pounds and it’s incredibly painful and uncomfortable as well as drawing the gun and re holstering. My bravo concealment is a strong side 3 o’clock carry and that’s worked wonders for me. Definitely gotta lose some weight before I try appendix carry again.

Most understandable and clear explanation I've ever heard. Extremely well made. One question . . . can you suggest any good custom holster makers that will actually design holsters for light-bearing handguns? I have been unsuccessful locating any. They all have very limited laser/light combo models matched to firearm models or don't make anything for my Baby Desert Eagle 3 and Crimson Trace CMR-204 or HK VP9 with same.

  • @tessahbooth

    @tessahbooth

    11 күн бұрын

You're going to be hard pressed to find the intersection between QUALITY and QUANTITY. If a holster maker is designing quality products they're going to be hard pressed to keep up with the constantly changing light accessories, let alone the largely unpopular light/laser combo accessories. You will be much better off catering your light selection to what quality holster makers already have available.

But I'm going to try an enigma compatible holster for a week or two and see how it feels, I never knew anything about wings, just figured it was some gadget or something that people put on the holster for whatever reason. I didn't look into what it was. I'm really tired of belly bands that ride up my back. I like to wear leggings and skirts, and its been tougher than it should be. I've tried CC leggings, undertech holster shorts, bra holsters, purse and tactical cross body bags.

Plus I don't like having things shoved in my pants or my pockets and I don't want to have to buy jeans one size bigger than what I need. I carry outside on the belt about the 3- 4:00 position. And due to my job that's what I have became came used to. I just find it difficult to find a kydex holster that I like because I've grown tired of the leather holsters with the thumb break.

The other two who commented below pretty much said what I came here to say, but I’d also add that the customization period is key, especially so for your body type. Honestly, I get how frustrating that can be, and why 4 o’clock might ultimately feel like the solution for you, but know that you can carry appendix. You just can’t do it comfortably without being selective about holster design, placing the gun in just the right spot, and adding a holster wedge.

The graphics, and videos here: www.phlsterholsters.com/the-basics-of-concealment-mechanics/ should help you navigate through some of those issues. For you, I'd start with the "poke and check" video (kzread.info/dash/bejne/k557zauqo7OngKQ.html) and then go from there. A wedge might be a great solution, but there might be a few more steps to try before that too. I totally get the small torso struggle, I'm 5'0". Placement can make a big difference on a smaller frame :)

I know you are working with a holster company but you should check out Tier 1 and T-Rex holster for AIWB. Special operations guys have been using these and im my opinion are the best for everyday use. Especially since they offer side cart. Enigmas for me have to much going on.

I have switched to the TXC Helix instead of a wing since I always slammed my knuckle into it. I still hit my knuckles on my belt line and it's so frustrating. No clip or holster gives me the ability to have my ride height high enough to have clearance. Canting the holster makes gripping the gun awkward as well.

Have you tried the Mod 4 1.5 adjustable clip? You can move the clip up and down to increase or decrease clip clearance.

For kydex I haven’t found one better than Vedder Holsters 👍🏾. They have a unique clip that clips GREAT even onto baggy sweatpants. They get the click insert/exit perfect every draw. Still haven’t picked a good leather company & I hate going down the holster rabbit hole already been burned once or twice 😂. Thinking about lockleather or the fatguy holster but idk……

I’m glad you’ve had success with your Vedder! I don’t have any personal experience with their holsters, but from my understanding your experience is the minority. What other holsters have you tried to compare to Vedder? You might be pleasantly surprised with a higher tier brand 😊 I’d definitely steer clear of the fat guy holster and lock leather. The fat guy holster doesn’t have any concealment features, and will almost certainly result in printing and painful hot spots.

@@tessahbooth ha I think I hit all the key points, ended up going with a Tier 1 Xiphos v2 with a few different wedge sizes to test out. It’s my first foray into appendix carry with a proper appendix holster, so we’ll see if I can make it work. I’ve had bad results in the past trying to make ‘multipurpose’ holsters work in the appendix position. Thanks for the informative videos, and I appreciate the links and chapters!

One of the things you really did not mention is the fact that those of us that carry a weapon light or laser on our carry guns. This really creates a problem because there are so few companies that make compatible holsters to accommodate These situations. In my case it was a little bit harder since I am also a leftie. Holsters for someone like me are severely limited. You made a great video for many people but you might want to make a video covering some of the problems I mentioned. Thanks Examples of holsters that can work in situations such as mine are Crossbreed Holsters Aliengear Holsters Werkz Holsters I know there are probably others but these three are the few that were able to meet my needs. I carry a Sig 365XL with a Lima 365 Laser and a Holosun 407K, and I am left handed.

I didn't go in depth on Light bearing holsters for a couple of reasons: 1) All of the features that we want in a non light or laser bearing holster for concealment and safety purposes are the same. 2) Some of the brands that I mentioned in this video do make light and laser bearing holsters, and they're brands I feel confident recommending for quality purposes. I didn't mention Aliengear or crossbreed holsters because I have not known them to make a holster that has all of the qualities I mentioned in this video, and therefore aren't brands I would recommend. Your P365XL with the 407k is fortunately a very common gun, and is supported by all of the recommended holster brands, but unfortunately the laser is what makes holster compatibility such a struggle for you. If you were able to forgo the laser then your holster options, even as a lefty, would greatly increase :)

@@tessahbooth Fortunately the holster brands I mentioned have been able to meet my needs thus far. As for living without the laser, as a 73 yr old man, that would be a problem. While I am proficient with iron sights, I find that having the laser is beneficial. As a side note, my cats love the laser. Thanks for all the good you do on your channel. I have already recommended your channel to my wife and her sister as they will probably start carrying in the next 6 months or so.

Good video. I would disagree with the holster and mag attached together. A lot find that, like you mentioned, more surface area and having the clips further apart make these holsters distribute the weight over a larger area meaning, more comfort.👍

I felt that way at first too 😊 I carried in a sidecar holster for about a year, and it wasn’t until I started spending more time with independent holster designs that I realized my concealment wasn’t what it could be due to the faults in the sidecar design. Although, generally, they can be comfortable 😊

I disagree on the longer holster, I got a t1c holster for a hellcat. It came with nearly an inch of extra holster material and the end was closed so it essentially became a kydex blade pressing into me. I'm a heavier guy and admit I have a bit of a gut. So I prefer a minimalist holster design that rides just high enough to safely get my fingers around the pistol grip.

  • @tessahbooth

I used to use Tier 1 holsters exclusively, I know exactly what you mean :) The way that they add length is not what I'm talking about in this video. The additional length I'm referring to is not created by leaving a section of flat kydex, but rather making the entire holster longer.

Good holsters tend not to be cheap. That's just how it is. A $30 kydex holster might hold a gun decently well but something like a Phlster holster is designed to actually conceal that gun. You pay for the design and build quality. My first IWB holster was a Vedder because that was the Reddit hivemind at the time but then I tried a JMCK Wing Claw with DCC clips and realized how much better it was in every way. Your channel is one of the few gun channels I watch and I wish you'd been around when I started carrying. By the way, your channel is big enough to attract crypto scam bots. Congratulations, I guess. I reported every one of those sockpuppets for spam but you might want to delete the thread and block them.

My reasons I have a box of holster is 1 I started at the 3 o’clock iwb, but I wanted to try aiwb. I also believe 2 is 1 and I personally felt strong side front pocket was the best location for my back up. Yet I had issues drawing my backup when appendix carrying a full size gun (I also believe in carrying the gun you would want in a gunfight if restricted to handguns). Then add in a ride motorcycles and like being in the woods, and it got complicated to try and find the “perfect setup”. I don’t believe you can ever not go through at least a few carry setups before you figure out what works for you.

I wouldn’t recommend attaching just a holster to gym shorts. Unfortunately you’re going to be extremely hard pressed to find a quality holster that’s compatible with that specific light. There’s lots of great light bearing holsters out there, just very few for olight. Holster company’s tend to steer clear from making holsters for a number of weapon lights, not necessarily because they’re bad but because the accessory is ever changing, and it’s too costly to reevaluate a kydex mold for a light that frequently.
