How to avoid BACKSCATTER underwater | EP:1 Wide Angle
Backscatter is the illumination of particles in the water by your lights. It's the nemesis of underwater photographers. Although it can never be eliminated completely, by paying attention to our strobe positioning we can reduce it greatly.

Thanks Matty, great stuff as always :)
Thank you Matty. These are great tips!
Awesome - super simple and informative!!!
Straight to the point, informative WITH visuals to drive home the solution(s). Awesome! It says on your IG that you shoot Nikon/Aquatica & idk if you've already made a video covering this, but what's your gear set-up UW? Lenses for wide & macro? Just found your channel, checked out your other socials, subscribed/followed there. Can't wait to learn more from you 🤙🏽

Thanks! I'm happy it helped you. Yes I shoot with either a Nikon D850 or Z6 usually. My go to WA lens is the Nikon 16-35mm F4 and occasionally the 8-15mm F3.5-4.5 fisheye. My macro lenses are the Nikon 60 & 105mm F2.8. My usual UW dome is the Aquatica 9.25" Glass and the Mini macro port.
Hey Matty I'm heading to Thailand this November. In the photos I have seen taken in Thailand there is a lot of sediments in the water. I am using YS-D2 strobes, they come with two diffusers a 100 degree and a 120 degree. For WA (Nikon 16-35) should I use one of the diffusers or shoot without a diffuser? Great Video!!! Thanks
does that mean one would need higher lumens if they were to set it up behind lens capturing angle?
