You'll want to take a lighter and carefully make a couple quick passes with the end of the ribbon over the flame to seal (melt) the end, so it won't fray. You don't want to overdo this, though.You may be able to save the existing ribbon by doing this. Hope this helps.

I have an elastic bookmark that i currently use and i accidentally djd some slight damage to two papers. I then thought of this kind of bookmark and i might make some. I'm reading asoiaf and they're the leather-bound version with a sewn spine, so I might make this choice!

If you're not sure about the length of your ribbon, you could always make it a bit longer and cut off the extra when dry😊

Nice. Where did you get the pen holder on the book at the beginning?

Now, controversial opinion, but hear me out: Instead of glueing to the inside of the spine, you glue to the very left of the the inside of the back cover, and this way the ribbon at the top sits flush with the top of the pages when you close the book, instead of that little crease being created as the pages fold the ribbon shut.

But my book doesn't have this hole where u place the ribbon
