I think seed paper is a great idea. The premise is that you can send out an invitation or thank you card on that paper and then the recipient can plant the paper instead of recycling or throwing it away. Then they get flowers!

I don't know why I never thought of it. But, what a great idea to use the cool papers and pictures I have "hoarded" over the years. I really like the idea of just creating the journal pages without doing anything to them. I found the idea of creating something for each page so intimidating. This is a great first step with the bonus of organizing my paper and magazine pictures. It is still great even if I don't do anything else. Thank you

It was interesting how you did this. You're right in that it can be anything you want. I use regular paper and scrap paper in my junk journals, but I leaned how to bind the pages from you. I use your pamphlet binding method. I really have fun doing then, and since I journal in them I go through them pretty quickly. Some junk journals are very ornate, but mine are pretty simple. I don't sew or use fabric, but pretty much you can use anything in them. I also love making pockets for in them. I have been having fun with them.

I have about 30 handmade junk journals on the shelf above my craft desk now. My favourite is made with the cardboard cover of my University Annual. I bind mine with string and a really easy figure of 8 sewing method. I love using old book pages, music sheets and the odd piece of watercolour paper. I fill my journals with collage, handwriting and paint, inspired by the seasons and colours around us. I keep it simple. But fun. It's a relaxing and satisfying place to play. Thanks for sharing your ideas. Joie 🌿💜🍄

I to have only recently learned about these junk journals and love them. I’m a little upset because of how long it took me. But it’s a shame they’re not like really viral or like trendy among younger audiences mostly adults. But I’m 19 and obsessed with it. What I’ve seen girls close to my age doing here on KZread are bullet journals and journaling which is also nice but it’s too plain for me. So far I’ve learned about junk journals, and smash journals. I’m more into junk journals tho because you put stuff that you’ve treasured or kept over the years in there. And little papers or stickers that appeal to you. And you can draw and write ideas. I love junk journals definitely will be a hobby of mine from now on. If you guys know of any other journaling styles please let me know but really for me junk journaling tops it all. EDIT: and personally for me rn how im junk journaling is that I bought a 416 page retro blank paper book off of Amazon. And I have an obsession with thick books it’s eye candy for me. So I plan to glue down anything pretty in there and papers. Also draw in it 💗. I plan to someday drop a KZread video when I finish it but I doubt it will be soon with how many pages it is 😅😂💗

When we were growing up my mother's uncle worked at a paper mill. They didn't make fancy decorative paper like the ones you have but they made thick note pads with varying line widths in different shades of green and bue and pink and red. He would give us stacks of off-cuts left over that they were going to throw out. We used to love them so much, to me all paper was beautiful, even officey looking paper, it was exciting to flip through and smell and admire the lines and colours. I think I might still have some of the paper somewhere. I think for the number of trees used to produce paper every year we have to appreciate and honour it in all its forms. I love how carefully you work with paper, too. The love and admiration for paper is evident in all your work. I love this junk journal because it's different from what you normally see as junk journals.

I have gutted a book to make jjs, have reused a spiral notebook cover that I love to make a jj, and have made one from scratch. I use all kind of paper, lace, ribbon, wrapping papers... anything I like really as pages or to do pockets and embellish the pages. I use them for different things, some as art journals (my kids love these type), I am on my second "friend journal" where I glue cards and notes my friends gift me (and put notes of whenever I recieve Happy Mail or RAKs). I have another one for my kids drawings and little handmade cards. Simple ones to write all the random notes, toughts and to do lists I need to write. Also have one to put all my done crafty projects because I always tought I never could finish a lot of projects in a month. I have one to write all the measurements for my projects so I dont forget what an A2 card size is etc. And finally my "madness" journal for when anxiety is eating away at me and I need to just dump it all for my mental health. I make them on the simple side but love to have at least one decoration (even if a small sticker on each layout). And loooove making themed journals to decorate each page with a small thing that invokes the theme)

I also make junk journals out of leftover scrapbook papers that are too small or oddly shaped to do anything else with. The pages end up being different sizes and shapes, so it looks a little messy but I like that look. I then fill the junk journals with doodles, practice calligraphy, ticket stubs, receipts, stickers... any random junk that I want to keep but don't have anywhere else to put!

We also have a hard time using old items especially books (just can't tear apart a book). So our approach is more from the art journaling avenue, but we do bring the essence with papers we create (digitally and with media) along with other purchased ones, and then we put more of our mixed media onto it and well... Each one we create is different. That is the cool part.

I glued the pics to plain paper and wrote notes about the pic and the way it inspired me. I have it divided up into clothing, beaded jewelry, knitting/crochet dolls, and accessories. I checked out your disc video after this video. This is so useful, I’m not just a holder for all my pictures over the years but I have a scatter brain too. I could organise my plans/drawings as well as reusing blank pages in other notebooks. I’m trying to declutter my room which is full of sketchbooks.

Wow this is such a great sentimental storage book! I moved around a lot so I dont have a lot of this stuff... I watched a description of Mukbang as people watching other people eat so they can eat with others. I feel like this video was like that - i enjoyed your stories :)

Very nice collection of papers! I’d be hard pressed to call it junk; the sentimental value makes it a treasure.

I have been making junk journals for years, which involves mostly cardboard packaging from stuff i buy and other paper ephemera i collect on the way. I turn them into a smashbook to collect everyday memorabilia like ticket stubs and receipts, which is really nice on the heavy weight cardboard papers and more interesting than plain paper. Your book reminded of a scrap sampler, which is a collection of paper scraps but yours is a much larger size. I follow nikthebooksmith and Treausure Books, and they are both quite inspiring junk journalers.

The paper with the seeds are flowers. You can put the card into the ground, water it and flowers come out. It's a fun way to recycle the card. The paper and ink is also nature friendly. So it would be nice of you 'plant' the card.

This would be perfect for any kind of supplies you have. From yarn to Beads, Sequins etc. This would be fun. I don't like the Vintage Look. I have scrap paper I been trying to use up..😁 This would be fun. I'm one of those that can't have enough paper....🙄😁 Next on my supply list is one of those large cutting boards. And maybe hole punchers...☺️ I love the ASMR part when you put out all those Disc. ☺️ Watching these gives me my own inspiration to make my own. My Dad was also a Truck Driver for the Mayflower Trucks. He use to collect old TV Guids. Wish I had a few of those. Not sure what the done with them.

I never thought of using my laminating machine as a 'fixer' for collage! What a great idea! (Side Note: I've seen a lot of that seed-embedded paper used for invitations or announcements. The seeds are often wildflowers and the paper can be planted after use. Less waste - more pretty.) ( More notes: Your Dad could have a profitable side-business selling those vintage magazines on eBay. Paper-crafters pay top dollar for vintage mags with lots of advertising.) Cheers!

I though I was being lazy with the Bible I disk bound. For the cover, I ended up using an empty laminating pouch to help line up the holes. I went through each setting of the punch and punched a strip, so I have an idea of how the bottom differs. Using the guide, I would select the right setting (so letter/junior/ etc) to see which has a better base. Then I would line it up so that the top is over the top of the punch to avoid the half punch. Sometimes I ended up using a piece of paper/cardstock to make sure the distance between the paper stopper and the actual cover is the same. If that makes sense... But thank you for the introduction to junk journal. Now I have a project for all the random bits and pieces I've been saving up. :P

You were my first teacher for bookbinding. Once I was comfortable doing that, I started making my own junk journals. Now I make all different kinds of junk journals. Unfortunately it seems that not many people want to write in a journal, they have their phones. So, I just keep :asking them lately because I have a HUGE stash of scrapbook paper.

I'm not even keeping so much different papers, but a lot of prints and illustrations which I used to hoard when I thought they might turn into an inspiration for a drawing or painting, so maybe I should try to turn my carton box full of those into something like that ^^' Btw, I think, I actually saw something like that seed paper before, with some kind of add printed on it and that could be ripped up or cut and actually used to seed wildflowers or something like that :3

cool Junk Journal / paper keeping idea! I make Junk Journals by myself and use them for memory keeping. Wanna make a penpal Journal where I bind all the letters I got from my one paypal since 2018 in it. I keep them in an A4 Organizer in foil at this time but don't like it. Cool to see that I am not the only one who likes to bind memory-papers as a kind of new journal hahaha
