The techniques shown here are extremely interesting, however she should’ve paid attention to the paper and card stock grain direction in order to avoid warping. It should always run head to tail regardless of the binding technique used

@@randomlylearnt2477 Grain is something I talk about regularly. The grain in all the materials of this book was running parallel to the spine, but I don't recall why I didn't repeat my usual grain lecture in this video.

This was a trip down memory lane for me. When I was an art student (1960s), one assignment was to bind a book. The overall method was very much like what you did. The only difference was that we used larger, thinner paper & more stitches (maybe about an inch apart). We stitched (I think) 8 pieces of paper together to make signatures of 16 pages. My book was about 1" thick. Once those were stitched together, like yours the edges of the papers were not even, but our professor had an arrangement with a local printing shop where the college had its printing done to put our books in an industrial paper slicer that cut the edges even on each student's book. Apparently, it could cut hundreds of pages at once. I had started with pages that were 5.5" X 8.5". Once the pages were cut on 3 sides it was only slightly smaller. Then we knew how large to make our covers & finish the books. I ended up eventually filling mine by writing my favorite quotes in it. Years later, I became interested in making hand-made books again after I found a library book with a zillion ways to put a book together. The first one I made opened like an accordion. It had 10 pages (front and back 20) plus the covers. I filled it with images of my favorite author and some of his quotes. (I started to collect quotes on little scraps of paper in a shoebox when I was about 10.) Your video reminded me of the process I used in my college class and now I want to make more. Thank you.

Being Austrian and you playing Johann Strauss, The Blue Danube, drew me into watching your video more than several times! I'm compiling a lifetime of poems written by my 72 year old Danish friend who started writing poetry from the young age of 8 to the present; her last when her Mother passed a few months ago. We've got 85 pages worth so I typed them all into PhotoShop, as each page was given the appropriate background design, and then put 4 sections double sided to accommodate a regular 8.5 x 11 inch printout. Will fold the sheets having 4 - 8.5" x 5" colorful pages stacked 21 or 22 times. Then sewn, glued and followed along what you were doing. This becomes then a more personalized gift than anything else one could think of. So many excellent poems yet tucked away in notebooks, loose papers, and other random material. She never thought they were good enough, yet I recognized them as being quite exceptional! Finally they have been gathered and given their proper format. Vielen Dank!

I made this book for myself with actual watercolor paper, because I wanted to encourage myself to actually fill an entire sketchbook with watercolor sketches, and I am usually too intimidated to use the fancy ones. (I feel like I need to paint good enough to go into the book.) So I thought that if I made it myself, I would be less intimidated, because if I mess it up, I can just make another book without problems. The problem is that it came out far too nice. :) Thank you for the clear and easy to follow tutorial!

Nik, I've been watching you for sometime now, and I feel it is the time to express how much I appreciate your video's. You are a master paper engineer, and a top notch teacher. You have a very bright personality, a beautiful voice, you are funny and honest. I love truth tellers. I hope and pray that your health improves daily. I am on a quest to make secret journals for my grandchildren when they graduate when I found your laptop series. I cannot thank you enough. I am obsessed. My grandchildren are very young so I keep small little stories about them and they will add up over time. When they graduate they will have a memory journal from Nana. I just wanted you to know what you do makes a huge difference in our lives and for generations to come. x0x. P.S. I want that spacer bar. Hee Hee.

I just tried making this book and was successful! I even made book cloth using the tissue paper and the iron on adhesive stuff. I loved it. I had all the supplies on hand already including William Morris paper. Must be a sign, lol. Will most likely be joining a class soon. I have so many ideas I would love to try. Tysm❤️

I was wondering about book cloth. What thread do you use? And is there a special needle that's required? Thanks
