@@hopeemmanuel not totally but i am on the basic level, still practicing.. im studying tour guiding in istanbul and the obligated second language i choose is portuguese, this channel did helped me a lot with basics and the logic of the language which I think the most important..

Obrigado Bea. I think of qual/quais as meaning "which" even though you might best translate it in English as "what." Qual é seu nome? = Literally, "Which is your name [out of all the possibilities in the world]?" You're asking for an answer to your question in the form of an item from a list, even though the list is extremely long. I speak fluent Spanish, and "Cuál/Cuáles" is used exactly the same way in situations like this. Hope this helps someone!

I appreciate your help. These little nuances in portuguese drive me nuts, how one word can mean another all together, then you have to go and then you have to go and end it by telling me that natives tend to drop half the darn words anyhow 🙄

I know that 'que' is followed by a noun. so when you ask ''qual disco voce vai escutar?' can I ask also 'que disco voce vai escutar?' instead?

Olá, Jennifer! Tudo bem? It is possible. In those questions, *qual* would be equivalent to *which* , and *que* to *what* . A few examples: *What* car model do you prefer? *Que* modelo de carro você prefere? *Which* car model do you prefer? *Qual* modelo de carro você prefere? *What* dish do you recommend? *Que* prato você recomenda? *Which* dish do you recommend? *Qual* prato você recomenda?

E " O QUE QUE ISSO"?? Várias vezes eu ouço brasileiros falam isso, Talvez eu não tenha entendido exatamente o que eles falam... Você conhece uma frase assim Bea?

Pergunta interessante!! Vou preparar uma aula a respeito, com certeza. 😊 "O que é isso?" x "O que *é que* é isso?", que na fala geralmente se resume a "O que que é isso?" Este 'é que' tem um papel enfático, parecido com a seguinte estrutura no inglês: 'What did you say?' x 'What is it that you said?'

😘Oi Bea! Eu acho que já entendi a differença entre "que" e "o que". "O que" é seguido de verbos, nomes ou pronomes, mas "que" é seguido pelo substantivo. Então, quando "que" e seguido de verbos, nomes ou pronomes é de maneira informal. 😚Faça-me saber se é correto ou se esqueci de alguma coisa, por favor!!
