This is a hella old video but to this day it explains frame data perfectly. Let's face it, once you know that -10 is punishable you already know the basics. What other videos and explanations leave out is...Wtf do I do when my move is below -10 or +10 on block/hit? I've gone through multiple videos and they don't explain it well enough, MainMan did an awesome job.

Great video. I think a lot of people miss the point with frame data when they try to study and learn the specific properties of most moves instead of dividing them into easier to digest categories. At the end of the day Tekken was designed to be played without knowing the specific frame data of your moves and back in the day a lot of players would become great by just getting an overall feel of how safe or unsafe a move was on block, so just knowing if a move "stops your momentum" or if "you get slapped in the face if its blocked" or "you'll eat a combo if it gets blocked" is already a good start at getting a good understanding on how to take advantage of your on-block punishers and the like.

  • @bluelion7342

generally knowing your 10f-15f punishers will take you very far in this game. I usually go for 12-13f punishers on every move that isnt a 112, 12, 21. I will use a hopkick or Dark upper for all else that I know for sure can be punished by 14 and 15f.

this video is awesome, I never did learn frame data, but I have always been able to feel out if a move is safe or not overtime and you just learn what you can and can't get away with, you can visually see if a move takes longer to perform it generally has a higher frame data so it's better used as a punisher rather than a quicker move you could poke with. Great video thanks for explaining the basics for us noobs.

I saw your video in recommendation list while playing T7 last year but never looked at it because I thought movement, blocking and punishment is all that matters. But after practicing Tekken 8 for approx 2 mnths with Claudio, Kazuya and Feng...I realised that I was missing something that wasnt giving me that much of advantage against dragunov, yoshi, etc...I was searching your vids for 2 days to look for the elements that I'm lacking rn bcoz I want to master T8. So today I got to know that we lose our turn when our last landed move ranges btw -7 to -9 even if its safe. Frames is just simple math and which got to remember and pour it into the couldron with movement and execution to master this game. Even if it takes a lots of yrs of losing, practicing and evolving self skills. That you so much MAINMANSWE 🙌 I hope we get similar vids for TEKKEN 8 in future.

I would like to ask you: After I successfully land a move that grants me frame advantage (I.e. +6) sometimes my opponent will still hit me first even if I attack with a fast attack like a Jab. I realized that this is because I struggle with knowing exactly when my recovery frames end so that I can perform my next move at the earliest moment possible. Is there any advice you can give me to help with this hesitation I am having during a real fight?

How do i know exactly when the buffer window is for my inputs? Something like EWGF before 14 frame, i cannot see myself punishing a 14 fr attack with EWGF, as it is F * D DF+2, that is arguably 4-5 inputs, how fast will the game read this? How many frames does it take for someone to inpout it, How slow or fast can i input it for the game to register multiple commands versus one command? all very interesting.

You can still go greater than +9f, but it's far less complicated and it's character-specific. A few characters' wake-up spring kicks are +10f on block, which means they can float their opponent, and Bryan's unblockable taunt leaves him at +14f.

You claim that learning "these" numbers is a lot simpler, as you don't need to learn all moves. But then... how do I know which moves are connected to which numbers? How do I know if I can go for my 10f punisher, or my 13?

based on how minus the opponent's moves are, that's basically frame data.

I already know almost all of this, but i always wondered if there is any move that is 11 frames fast that you will use instead of your usual 10 frame punisher just like in the video explained with the hopkick punishers which are 13 frames fast instead of 12

Yes there are like e.g. josies b1, 1 It gives around 30-32 dmg, spin and +16 or so on hit. You can also get a free df 2 launch if the opp. doesnt hold back after the spin and only does neutral guard. If the opp. blocks df2 you can do d4 instead for a total dmg of 38. From here you can start a 50/50 mixup though most ppl will block the mid after getting launched and just eat the d4 low poke after b1, 1 hits. Also most ws 4s are 11 frames and some (many?) standing 4s

@@slimshadow2085 well yeah 11 frame punishers are kinda rare. Leo has 2,2 for plusframes but you dont get much out of it otherwise. If im not mistaken it gives +6. But moves which gives a ballerinaspin on hit in general gives alot of plusframes which can be used for CH setups or mixups but most moves with alot plusframes are usually also very linear so they can be stepped before the move connects or even after the block. Usually its possible to step from -4 to +unlimited. Otherwise plusframe moves would be to strong. To prevent that use homing moves sometimes after a plusframe move. Btw many chars have frame and techtraps e.g. katarinas 1,1, 2. The last hit is high but gives +7 on block. A df 4 (could be df 3 too. Not sure but its a 15 frame knee) gives a launch on ch and has a good range. So if the opp. trys so retaliate with any move after a blocked 1,1,2 he will get a ch launch.

@@donvisione3634 well thanks for the information but I am not Katarina nor Josie player I play Jin and King most of the time and sometimes I play Bryan but I am still not used to his key moves I also tried to SS alot of the mishimas but it is still difficult for me to time it well Which rank are you btw?

@@slimshadow2085 im revered ruler only with my main Paul. And have 3 other chars at red ranks. Mishimas are usually weak to their right so u need to step them left. It will dodge most 50/50 attempts. But since electrics got a better tracking with s2 they still have viable options. At high lvls good Mishimas will use wavedash electrics which will catch sidestepping mostly because the wavedash will realign them. Btw themainman just uploaded a bryan ranked match yesterday. Maybe it helps with your gameplan. Keymoves of bryan i would say are his orbital heel, Qcb 3, 3+4, b1, f3, df 2 but he has many great moves in general like his ff4 homing move
