How To Apply Rubio Monocoat OIL PLUS 2C to a Floor

Rubio Monocoat, Oil Plus 2C is a revolutionary, plant-based, hard-wax oil that is 0% VOC. As the name implies, in 1 coat you’ll get color and protection for your wood. Oil Plus 2C works by forming a molecular bond with the topmost fibers of the wood. This results in a durable, water-resistant finish, all while keeping the natural look and feel of the wood. Oil Plus 2C is available in over 50 colors, which can all be mixed to create endless color possibilities.

    I purchased a Clark American Sanders OBS-18DC HDTR which is a 12 x 18 inch random orbital sander / buffing machine. I see all of these round polishers being used to apply the product with the red buffing pads and white buffing pads. I'm assuming that the 12 x 18 rectangular red buff pads to apply and white buff pads for the removal process will work the same to apply the product or must I use one of the round circular machines? Looking forward to refinishing my floors with this product thanks!

    That is perfectly fine! You can buff in the product with either a white or red pad, jut remove the excess with a clean towel!

    This video gives me confidence in my upcoming project. However, the wood I used for my flooring is birch plywood cut into planks. Unfortunately it's pre-sanded very smooth (I think well over 200 grit). Do you think there will be any issue with the oil penetrating?

    Hi Jake, glad you enjoyed the video and have confidence moving forward. We recommend a final sanding grit of 120 (150 max). This is because any higher and the grain will begin to close making it more difficult for the oil to penetrate and bond with the wood.

  • @iorbitearth

    @iorbitearth

    @@rubiomonocoatusa ok thank you. Employees at woodcraft estimate the grit to be 320. After testing we all agreed the high grit still seemed to absorb the RMC and bond. So I'm moving forward with it. Not ideal, however!

  • @rubiomonocoatusa

    @rubiomonocoatusa

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@iorbitearth It will definitely bond, however as you sand beyond 120 grit, you close the grain and durability will reduce the further beyond 120 you go!

    Did I understand correctly that if I am unable to use a buffer machine I can just apply the oil on with a squeegee to spread it out and immediately buff with a white pad? I don't live in a country where I can rent the standing buffer machines but I can get 3m white pads and use it with my handheld random orbital sander , hoping that will work

    How many square feet of coverage do you get per gallon? Is the labor less for this than staining, sanding sealer and three coats of poly?

    Oil Plus 2C covers approximately 300-500 ft²/L. It is definitely less labor intensive! To apply, you simply buff the oil on, allow it to react for 3-5 minutes, then remove all excess with a clean terry cloth!

    Using the clear on a brand new pre-finished floor (this was the manufacturer's suggested product). I understand the application, I am using the part B as well, how long until I can walk on it, not clean it but walk on it?

  • @rubiomonocoatusa

    You can walk on the floor with dry socks 8 hours after a proper application. However, it is best practice to wait 24-36 hours before walking on the floor.

    Can I apply the clear to an already stained floor? It was recently stained with an oil based stain and would hate to have to sand it all. If it can be applied to a stained floor do I need to use the cleaner before applying, or would that take up the stain?

    @@rubiomonocoatusa Oil +2C …A…Accelerator B do you have a decoder pamphlet. I watched a woodworking guy do a base color of black, and after drying, did a white rub in, then wiped. It was incredible looking, and he said it was a sample kit he used, but I looked on Amazon and became a little confused on what it all meant . Are there small sample kits with 2 colors, or did he just use individually purchased colors…and when/where to use the accelerator.

    @@patrickdunn8918 We do have product videos, brochures, and more application videos on the product page on our website. For a base color black with white in the grain, that will require you to use our water-based stain, called Precolor Easy, as the base coat. Then you will want to finish that with a white Oil Plus 2C color. We sell products individually on our website in a variety of sizes. 350 Ml. and up will come with the PartB attached. Any sizes lower than that will require you to buy PartB separately. The accelerator should be mixed in with PartA at a 3:1 ratio (PartA: PartB) prior to applying it to the surface. Only mix the amount you need for that project because, once the two components are mixed, the pot life is 6 hours. Rubiomonocoatusa.com is our website and is a great place to start!
