i do have a different interpretation about the juicy couture ads. since you mentioned about being high on drug (the eye effect), i assume that juicy couture want to give a suggestion that the perfume gives an effect of "smelling so good that you can imagine being whatever you're including being a royal". tbh the elements used are very tricky. props to the creative team.

I get your point, however, somehow I agree more with professor Lenz. The bottle shaped like an alcoholic drink, constricted pupils, reflect being high and maybe that makes you believe you're whoever you want, a hippie woman or a classy lady It's more convincing and deep for me because alcohol "presented in the perfume bottle" makes you drunk, not the smell of perfume. What's amazing about the ads, especially the good ones, is it's an art and everyone can explain it the way he sees it, and we all get the same message in the end.

This was a great video, but I can't help but wonder...was that at the end your personal interpretation of the Juice Couture ad? Or you have information about the company or perhaps read an article about it where the company explained the advertisement? I mean your analysis was very thorough and insightful, but it's also very subjective, maybe other advertisers would see that ad with different lenses? I'm not criticizing here, just wondering :)
@professorlenz

Yes, this is my interpretation and I have no inside knowledge of what the creators were thinking when they came up with the ad. I make no claims that my interpretation is "correct" or the only way this ad can be interpreted. You are correct that there are no absolutes in analysis of art, just whether or not you can make connections that seem "plausible". Interpretation is certainly subjective, but some interpretations are more plausible than others based on connections made, logical progression of ideas, etc. Often, artists themselves do not even fully see the connections they are making subconsciously when creating great art.

@professorlenz

Good question. I doubt everything I note was consciously preconceived. Much could have been at work subconsciously, as is the case with all art. I have known artists who create on pure "instinct" and just have a good sense for thematic unity, but really aren't thinking consciously about it in the process. We can never really know how much was conscious vs subconscious in the creation of that advertisement, but it has a lot of thematic unity that suggests a good deal of preparation and care was involved in its composition.
