I see where you’re going with the constricted pupils, but most drugs associated with hippies dilate the pupils. Drugs that made them move, or dance. Uppers. Her sitting here with constricted pupils means she’s in an H-daze, unable to move. Which could be. I personally think they chose to just showcase the blueness of the eyes. Imo this is an ad meant to capture a white audience who is interested in bohemian culture.

@@SMHBK At the time these videos were made, I was teaching college courses in writing and critical thinking and a segment of the class was devoted to image analysis. I was never in the advertising field, nor was I ever a full time KZreadr; I just made these videos one semester when I was teaching online to help my class out with certain concepts being discussed in class. However, I noticed since then that there has been a lot of interest in this video, so making a Part 2 and some other related videos has been on my project list. This was a great video, but I can't help but wonder...was that at the end your personal interpretation of the Juice Couture ad? Or you have information about the company or perhaps read an article about it where the company explained the advertisement? I mean your analysis was very thorough and insightful, but it's also very subjective, maybe other advertisers would see that ad with different lenses? I'm not criticizing here, just wondering :)
@professorlenz7 ай бұрын
Yes, this is my interpretation and I have no inside knowledge of what the creators were thinking when they came up with the ad. I make no claims that my interpretation is "correct" or the only way this ad can be interpreted. You are correct that there are no absolutes in analysis of art, just whether or not you can make connections that seem "plausible". Interpretation is certainly subjective, but some interpretations are more plausible than others based on connections made, logical progression of ideas, etc. Often, artists themselves do not even fully see the connections they are making subconsciously when creating great art.
