Staycation vibes lol We are wanting to save for a new family vehicle so sacrificing a vacation is just the reality this year. Last year we did go outta town more often so it’s totally fine. Growing up, my parents couldn’t afford to take us every year. So we just did a family vacation every 2-4 years.

I didn't start traveling til I was 26 years old. One of my biggest regrets was not taking the time to do it sooner. Was too busy with recovery, 5 years of university, suing the people who killed my parents, moving, and building the business. You're only young once, so live a little.

I didn't start until 30. Believe me when I say, you have plenty of time! Now I'm 38 and have an 8 month old and new career. You will always have time to travel, if you make it a priority. It will probably look different. I'm not going to backpack Iceland with my 8 month old, but I've been visiting lots of trails and places within my state that I've never been to before. Eventually we will take our son to some amazing places outside of the US. As our income and savings grows as we age, those trips can get a little fancier too. Bottom line, you can still travel! :)

Been following Dave's show for a long time. We've been on baby steps 4-6 for a while, and cruise once every 18 months or so since getting to that point. Don't know if this is true about other kinds of vacations, but with cruising, you can book ridiculously early (over two years in advance in some cases), and can reprice your cruise down as many times as you want if you find a lower price, say via and email promotion or something. At least, you can with Royal Caribbean. So, we are scheduled to sail in June of 2023, which we booked in April of 2022. We've also repriced our reservation down 3 times since, saving just under $200. Out of curiosity (two days ago), I looked at what the price would be if we were to book the same trip at today's prices... Same stateroom, same amenities pre-paid & all that... over $2,000 more! Nice to get it booked under the inflation bubble!

We go to Panama City Beach nearly every year, sometimes twice a year. Some of the things I do is have definite needs for when I look for our condo. This way I know we're going to be comfortable and my grown kids have their own beds. I also make a meal plan and I bring a lot of our dry goods, with us along with toiletries and kitchen supplies. This way the only thing I have to go grocery shopping for when we get there is meat, dairy and vegetables. If I'm really ambitious I'll bring a cooler full of frozen meat so we don't have to shop for it. We also take a lunch so we can stop at a rest area to eat instead of going out for lunch.

Be careful with the Airbnbs. Unfortunately, a lot of them charge really expensive cleaning fees that when added to the cost of the price per night, actually equate to as much as a hotel per night or even more.

Unpopular opinion: use credit card responsibly and use the points/cash back to cover/offset some of the cost or pay for flights. Travel hack for lodging: rent a timeshare villa/condo from an owner through Redweek/TUGBBS/EBay. Stick to Marriott, Hyatt, Hilton, Wyndham. It’ll save you up to 50% renting from an owner than booking direct.

Let's see. A month in Ireland this May/June. Already went to a beach in Florida in Jan this year. Looking at an island trip before spring. Also planning a Europe River cruise mid summer. Then something for Fall, maybe Bar Harbor or some big Octoberfest somewhere. Busy, busy, busy.

Nope cause her narrative will be toast. I went skiing, snowboarding, and snowmobile riding in Maine with my family all with points (would've been almost $3k using a debit card) Also going to Daytona 500 next month and Mardi Gras all with points. That's thousands saved just using a different payment method and paying my balance in full every month.

This I’ve done. When I was in the Military I followed Dave Ramsey to the T except all my groceries went on a southwest credit card. I never paid for a flight home on leave. I followed my budget, too. I don’t recommend that for anyone who has struggled with credit card debt though. I never have.

A vacation is only truly enjoyable when your debt is gone. My husband and I were debt free for years, we went back into debt when we had a surprise pregnancy and I had health issues. My uncle and his family skipped my sister's wedding to go on vacation. They were on very good terms with her and we went to all their events. The reason: it was their traditional vacation week even though the wedding date was set almost a year in advance. My sister still remembers that 36 years later but that vacation was probloby long forgotten. People and their vacations. 🤦

Did they live in a different state or country? Is it that they couldn't make both, and this vacation was the only thing keeping them going through a really miserable existence? I'm first generation American, so "vacation" to us meant leaving the country to see relatives, which only happened every few years. My father worked several jobs and my mother clipped coupons. I don't understand the vacation obsession, either. I like being home and just doing day trips somewhere. I'd honestly rather just give the money to my friend who needs it for her children because she's a widow in a very poor country.
