A lot of people see a budget as something that limits your freedom-I know, because I used to be one of them. But once budgeting becomes part of your everyday life, it actually gives you permission to spend! A budget doesn’t limit your freedom-it gives you freedom.
In this episode of The Rachel Cruze Show, you’ll learn:
• Three steps to make budgeting easier for you than it’s ever been
• How to get your spouse on board with budgeting with you
• How one couple learned to budget their inconsistent income, and how you can too

We have paid off $60k in 4 years. During that time I went to school to be an RN and only worked under 20 hrs a week. My husband is blessed with a good job that kept us a float. Now we are knocking the debt out very fast. Cant wait to see what amount we pay off this year.

I'm single and now debt free through budgeting. When i shopped I meal planned. If I bought 3 for 2 i would put the price of that 3rd item in a jar. I bought yellow labels and took off full price from reduced. And popped it in the jar. I reduced energy. I stopped using my gas cooker. Bought halogen oven ( sold my square cookware n bought round cookware.) I bought a double induction hob the portable type. They have saved so much. I double duvet my bedding. And use hot water bottle. My big saving on laundry. I use white vinegar instead of softener. I make my own laundry powder. Grate simple soap bicarbonate of soda washing soda borax and Epson salts due to hard water. I dont buy bottled water i filter tap water. I limit my social outgoings. I do feedback survey for freebies. I drive a manual gearbox 2.8 diesel range rover ( its paid for in full no hp) and how I drive it. It uses less fuel than my old Peugeot 2 litre plus it's cheaper on road tax and insurance. And looks cool when going on bussiness lunches..making saving gives you a better out look on life. Oh my jar at the end of the month added up over the yr £8000.00 which over 3 yrs £24000 which I paid off debts. Then ad ppl claim I forgot about come through. So I bought my car. My freezer in full my cupboards are full. So now I'm doing a no spend grocery month. I love been frugal. I'm starting tech testing where you test stuff and write a review then you get the product.

Thank you for this video Rachel. I know the baby steps. My husband and I are on baby step 2. I was so confused about the budget. Not how to make one but how to get the cushion in my bank to pay the bills. I was using my credit card to pay the bills because I didn’t want to get so low in my bank account that I get charged for not having the money to pay the bills. The saving for 3 months, then See where we are at as far as the budget goes was a life changing suggestion. Thank you all so much for what you do. 🙏🙏🙏

  • @alyssa004

It’s not encouraging teen pregnancy. Look around you, it’s happening everywhere. One video is not going to “make teens” want to get pregnant. It will help teach them about money and being “wise” with it. Some teen parents need encouragement to help them get out of their parents home, or to buy their own car, or even to save up for a house. Teaches them responsibility for their actions.

Alyssa B I had a son when I was 19 and knew nothing about money except that I should work and pay bills. I did not learn more until much later. I believe the same thing applies to you as applies to others. However, you have to balance school, work, and caring for your child alone. First, enlist the help of family as much as possible. You need a healthy support system. Second, DO NOT use debt for anything you think you need for your baby or yourself. Your child DOES NOT need the fancy things our culture says they do. I cannot stress enough to stay in school. Spend time with your child after school and study from 8 to 10 at night. Focus on doing well. Also, Dave Ramsey sells a teen entrepreneur book. This is something you may be interested to earn extra money. Or, wait tables on Friday and Saturday nights. Tips could really help. Budget your money just like everyone else. Save what you can. Live very frugally until you have an emergency fund, then start saving for college. Be responsible and do not live impulsively. You CAN do this! Think of your child and change their family tree.

I must respectfully disagree with Missy Cute. Regardless of anyone’s views of teen pregnancy or pro choice/pro life, we should certainly have a resource for young single mothers AND fathers to have access to a healthy financial lifestyle. It is unfair to young mothers and single fathers to limit their educational resources just because of one’s personal religious beliefs or political views. Teaching financial well being is not encouraging, glamorizing, nor advertising having children before marriage or at an early age. Financial education is not a get-rich scheme. It only teaches you how to MANAGE your financial situation. I do challenge anyone to find a young single mother or father who will ever tell you it was “a good and easy life,” raising kids alone as you stated.

I don’t set any budget but I track all my spending! my goal is to spend minimum. I tried to used quicken before but Somehow didnt work for me. So I started the old school write down every single purchase . Now I know how much I spend each month and where I spend the most of my money. I also have a section for all monthly fixed purchases like mortgage payment, utilities, Netflix etc and cancel the ones I don’t use. Now I think I am going to use google sheet or excel to track my spendings too. This way it feels persona than using quicken to track for you! I never had any debts beside the mortgage . My parents don’t like debts. When I think of debts it feels like your neighbor borrow your $1000 each month and they never give them back to you. That’s what debts are 😜I bought my first brand new car by borrowing money from my family and pay them back each month to avoid debts 😛 my biggest problem is that I need to stop buying things I don’t need…

Bills are monthly so better to break it down monthly. Look at the calendar and see how many checks you will get for that month and then break down the bills etc for that amount for that month.

Monthly. Assume you have the buffer between bills.... months that you get paid that 3rd check either throw it towards debt, savings/ investment, or spend

Absolutely! Making a budget, and sticking to the budget is what's important, so if bi-monthly makes sense for your income go for it!

How can I budget if I’m on a fixed income, I’m a single widow mom with 6 children Budgeting is so confusing

  • @markhines192
    @markhines1924 жыл бұрын

But what if the first four you don't get accomplished until your child is a couple of years away from starting college and you haven't put anything aside for college in all that time then you're not going to be able to do much for their college. I think these things being set in stone in this order does not fit everyone

  • @KC-zn1mg

If you don’t have the money to spend a lot on college then your child is going to have to work within that. First thing is picking a realistic career to go into. Going to medical school isn’t smart if you don’t have the money. They might need to do community college first and transfer. Financial aid should be a large portion of the decision making on any college. I’ve known plenty of people who worked until the money was there for college. Your not going to be able to help as much if you dont have a good size emergency fund and you’re not out of debt.

Totally disagree, budgets are not needed. With everyone's lives being as hectic as they are, financial simplicity is the best path. Too complicated and no one will follow through with it long term. Set up direct deposit of your paycheck. Pay yourself first by setting up automatic funding of your retirement accounts and emergency fund (purchasing low fee ETFs and broad market index funds). Set up automatic payments for reoccurring bills each month. Then spend (or save) the remaining money left over guilt free. Enjoy life and realize that happiness doesn't come from material possessions. Rachel means well but she is just another financial "expert" that makes a living giving advice that has a little different spin then the other advisors out there.
