My husband and I recently decided to hire out 1x month deep clean service. Game changer. We're out of debt and have a house full of toddlers. Worth every penny for my sanity's sake! I also pick up instead of delivery. A tiny bit cheaper, but as a sahm it's a nice excuse to get out of the house a little more. And I still don't have to drag all 3 toddlers into the store :) I love videos like these. I know people can get really judgy about the money spent on luxuries, but some people don't factor in the value of a calmer less irritable parent/household that these luxuries can help with. It's worth every penny if you can swing it.

Mama Rachel, don’t feel an ounce of guilt for buying back time. You earned it through wise money choices. 🎉 This is SUCH a wise video! I’m a mom of 6, one being 3 months old. I just recently started working from home with digital marketing and customer relations for my hubby’s construction company. Today was the first day I took my mother in laws advice and got a housekeeper. We are starting with once a month where it’s a big cleaning day in conjunction with her. But it’s help I desperately need and I wish I did it sooner!!! (We are BS2, with $4.5K left until BS3)

I love how every family is different. I’m such a homebody that I love doing all my own chores and work at my home,(I hate that I don’t have a lawn to mow at the moment 😂) but I can completely understand how some people value that time for other things. Great conversation!

I only had 2 small kids instead of 3, but as a stuggling single mom, I learned that chasing my kids around a park for about an hour before going grocery shopping on Saturday afternoons tired them out enough to calm them down in stores and then promising french fries from Mcd or some similar 'treat' if they were good afterwards made it possible for me to get groceries but made it an enjoyable afternoon for them too. Hopefully this can help others too without having to spend a lot of grocery delivery services

You are so right on these! I discovered Kroger Blue Trucks this year and it's cheaper than Instacart, you just need to book a little longer out, but you have at least 12-24 hours to edit your order before delivery. I've had a house cleaner for 8 years now, once a month. It's enough to make sure everything is reset and the bathrooms and kitchen are properly addressed. I too would gladly sacrifice other categories to have a house cleaner, it brings me more satisfaction than a lot of other luxuries (restaurants, bars, clothes, etc). And an interior designer! It is so necessary when doing a major home renovation or new build!! It's not a luxury, it's part of the hiring process! Unless you're diy-ing everything or have an eye for it, it is just as necessary as the cabinet installer or plumber or whoever else you hire. You are putting a lot of money into your project and you want it done right, so get some help! Interior designers were surprisingly affordable in my area and I couldn't have done my renovation without one. They come with so much design knowledge, PLUS they know which plumbers, cabinet installers, flooring people, etc to hire and not to hire. Invaluable.

Walmart Plus is a game changer for our family. Yes, it costs $99/year, but I get free shipping, waived delivery charges, and 10 cents off every gallon of gas at most Murphys around our area. Gas alone has saved us $237 this year plus saved me 6 hrs of my time by using pickup or ship to door I spend less when I schedule a pickup vs wondering around the store shopping.

Even when I get to baby step 7, I’m cleaning my own house. My wife and I tried 2 different times to hire house cleaning services with poor results. The companies we used had a grade A on Angie’s list, yet, things went missing from our home on both occasions. I’ll keep my 800 a month and live stress free with people not stealing from me.

I'm a single mom and I like doing DIY projects around the house (at least some times). I bought something that has made my life so much easier. It's a second cordless drill!! It wasn't that much money and when I'm putting something together I can use one for drilling pilot holes and the second as a cordless screwdriver. That way I don't have to stop each time and switch out the drill bits. It saves me so much time each project. Highly recommend this shortcut.

I agree with saving time having someone else shop for you , especially when you have kids. I do Walmart pick up on my way home from work. Game changer. Cleaning my apartment takes up so much of my time and gives me anxiety when it’s not clean. I would love to hire help but it’s not in the budget for me. Maybe some day. This was a nice video. Regarding grocery delivery: This is a contentious point for me right now. My family does not have a car and are on an extremely tight budget. I get delivery because I have to, but it presents me with challenges such as substituted and shorted items, where entire chunks of my weekly meal plan can be obliterated by simply not having the items I need. While it may be a time saver, it certainly isn't advantageous in other areas for me.

@@iamthomasgreenman having worked Instacart for a short while I don't know how things were forgotten. I'm not saying it didn't happen, but each and every item is on the list and must be accounted for. I had to contact people about missing product. it seemed more often than not people would not answer. Then again, maybe the driver found a way to bypass the customer contact requirement in the app? Or maybe it was another service.

So glad you spoke of this today. I spent 12 years after med school (started med school at age 38!) getting out of insane student loan debt by doing the baby steps - and the baby steps WORK. I became super thrifty and shopped at Goodwill for clothes and drove my paid off car for 23 years. But the real discovery is that by accepting and performing the activities that led me out of debt, I was setting myself up in later life to be able to choose what I wanted to do to buy back my time. For me, that is a house cleaner once a month (we don't have kids or pets so that is about right) and yard service maybe monthly. We definitely did grocery delivery during the worst of COVID but were able to halt that. The real point of my reply is to say that it is the judiciousness that developed during the baby step time (way back in my rearview mirror, I have been out of debt since 2006) that lets me be able to afford the services I feel are of value. Life is definitely enhanced by outsourcing certain tasks and chores that I previously did that I have the option now not to have to do myself.

My wife had a good point, that maybe millionaires shouldn't be replacing the suspension rods in their own washing machines. I hadn't considered that, but It can't cost much to hire out, and it saves us half a day of complaining/fighting, which could ruin a weekend.

I agree with this video. However it makes me laugh because there was another video last week or earlier this week that was kind of contradicting this video in saying that you spend more on grocery delivery. It is highly important to consider money margin vs time margin and what value that would add to your life for the expense. My dad would mow the grass all the time. It may have been an enjoyable chore for him or maybe he was just doing it to "save money" but overall I think he would lose money as he could have paid the neighbor kid to do it for $25 or something. I'd say that's a could return on your purchase if that takes a couple of hours.

I would add order from Uber Eat or whatever. Instead of cooking for hours. Train at home instead of going to the gym. Just count how much time you save by doing the same thing at home. Make your money work for you instead of working more hours or even days. Buy a dishwasher. So you just press a button. The list could be endless. More I get older, more services I will have from companies. Now I have snow removal and two cleaning ladies that come every two weeks. It's not that I can't do it. I just do not want to do it anymore. I prefer to do something else with my time.
