    Out of all the "adjust pushrod" videos I watched, yours was the icing on the cake. I did exactly as you instructed, ignored such things as TDC, and had no knowledge of my brand names to use any such calculator charts (flats info etc), and now my bike runs perfectly after a complete rebuild! I cannot thank you enough for solving what I believed was a mysterious pain in the ass problem with no solution in sight. THANKS!!!

  • @HRMartin-ud1gf

    @HRMartin-ud1gf

    16 күн бұрын

    If they don't bleed down to the point where you can spin the rods with your fingers, you most likely turned more flats than is required for your specific push rods. Check your threads per inch and correct accordingly. S&S quickie push rods are 4 turns (or 24 flats) for example. Other brands may only require 3 turns, (18 flats).

    So I have a softail evo here and I want to adjust the pushrods. The bike is noisy right now so I am sure it needs to be adjusted. My question is. With them all ready pre adjusted in the bike. Do I just get the cam to poition, and then adjust them to slight lash?

  • @fixingorflipping

    @fixingorflipping

    2 ай бұрын

    I would totally back them off and start over with the adjustment process. Usually once pushrods have been adjusted correctly, they don’t require re-adjustment. So if the bike was quiet and then over time got noisy,, you could have a bad lifter.

    Can you give me your definition of "over lap?" Does it mean the same thing as "base circle of the cam?" I know you said that in your procedure, you do not get involved in determining tdc, but just for my edification, when the cam (twin cam) for whatever cylinder you are working on is on overlap, does that indicate that the cylinder is on tdc?

  • @fixingorflipping

    @fixingorflipping

    Жыл бұрын

    Yes you are correct. When the tappets on a cylinder are NOT moving up/down, it is because that is the “base circle” of the cam.

  • @jhoytmaddox

    @@fixingorflipping appreciate the video. but.... valve overlap is when both valves are open (and so would both be moving). Overlap allows the the escape velocity of the exhaust gasses to aid in the intake of fresh fuel and air. So... one cylinder is experiencing overlap and the one you're adjusting is on the base circle.

  • @cindysullivan4265

    @cindysullivan4265

    Hi All, valve overlap is when both intake and exhaust valves are briefly both open...as exhaust gases exit, intake gets a little boost via low/ high pressure difference.. as intake stroke progresses vaporization of fuel droplets gets enhanced.. Be Safe Don

    You should start by measuring your pushrods TPI (threads per inch) so that you know what you’re working with and then can find out how many flats, turns, etc. you will need for adjustment. You need to literally count the number of threads there are in 1 inch of the threaded part of one of your pushrods.

    This is a great vid on setting adjustables but again- I have to ask- WHY are adjustable rods in the bike in the first place? You're introducing 4 more points of failure in a Harley engine- as there isn't enough already. For what?? ... so you can save an hour and a half labor?? How often are you in there to justify cutting rods? People- think. You're eventually going to have to go upstairs anyway, valve seals don't last forever, breathers on twincams DO need to be changed. Unless you're running solid lifters - which if you are, that's a whole new convo; then just say NO to adjustables. As I stated in the beginning, IF you are going to install adjustables- THIS is the vid to watch.
