Steven Petryk, Great video. So adding the values basically involves XORing the corresponding bits in each value. However I did wonder how one might go about adding values of differing bit lengths, is it sufficient to just pad the smaller of the values with zeros to force the bit lengths to match?

When you performed the binary addition you mentioned the answer was positive. Did you determine that the answer to the binary addition was positive because there was no overflow? If there was an overflow than that means the answer would have been negative right?

It's a special case-there's both a positive 0 and a negative 0 (sometimes you may see "-0" in JavaScript and other languages that use IEEE-754). -0 is represented as 1 0000 0000 000... +0 is 0 0000 0000 000... You can read more here! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Signed_zero

The first (most significant) bit in the representation of the input numbers, in the video, x and y have a highest bit of 0, meaning they're both positive. 1 would indicate a negative floating point number.

I got that wrong, my question was kind of stupid. I am just confused how to do a subtraction. I would need to make some kind of twoscomplement?

Toni Cleaveland in this case you do a two's compliment on B, and add result to A. The idea here is that it's easier to add negative numbers than to subtract positive ones.
