Excellent! Thank you very much, I wasn't aware of this plugin. I am glad that it makes the image tileable. Just what I need for animation. Though some others might prefer to disable tiling. I didn't see any option to do so in the short time that I have played with it so far.

is there anyway to make the fog different coloured?

Why is there no cloud pattern for GNU/Linux?

Today I learned it's pronounced "gimmick", not Gee-Mick. Which makes total sense. One thing I noticed when doing this: If you click "Clouds" from the G'Mic filters menu, it gives you a new random seed. You don't have to change your settings back and forth to re-randomize things. Just an FYI.

Is there a way to alter the color of the fog layer?

Yes. Before going to add a layer mask, go to colors and choose Colorize

I want this smoke to be a semi transparent independent PNG file.

If you have to download something to do the effect, it's not a tutorial for gimp it's a tutorial for a plugin and should be labelled as such. OFC even that is rendered pointless when the link to the plugin is 404 errored. Take this video down.

Second time that you've screwed up your before and after with your popups. It's annoying. Otherwise the tutorial is okay. Yet that at the end of your video leaves a bad impression.
