How to Add Complexity to a Beat Using Make Noise Tempi and Rene

Музыка

In this video I'll show you how to make you beat more interesting, dynamic, and complex by using a sequencer to trigger different states in the Tempi. We're using the Make Noise Rene as our sequencer, but you can use any sequencer to achieve what we're doing.
Modules Used:
Pico Drums - Drum/Sampler
Make Noise Tempi - Master Clock
Make Noise Rene - Sequencer

You have that special skill as a teacher. You landed on a great way to show it when you demonstrated your point on a single pot. Well done.

Been thinking on picking up Rene and Tempi for awhile now. I have PNW, so not sure if I'd be double dipping with a Tempi. In any case, this was an awesome tutorial. Would love to see something where you do the same sort of setup, but in a more melodic context. You gave me ideas to generate random chords with the state jumping that you did here with three oscillators instead of 3 drum modules. This really opens up so many cool possibilities.

Yooo! I’ve never seen tempi used like this! I love it! I’ve been trying to figure out a gate and trigger sequencer forever and in modular it seems like a lot of people go with Euclidian stuff. Though I like the idea of it I haven’t jumped on a Pam’s yet. I used to play drums so my brain thinks in longer phrases especially with the relationship between kick and snare. Part of the downside of Euchlidian is having pretty unpredictable results but if you’re jamming that doesn’t alway work right? I like the idea of This where you could lock your sequence in but also change it up on the fly and still maintain the feel. It’s like choosing between parts of beats. I’m gonna have to look at this combo for sequencing and clocking duties.

Yeah look into it! I think unpredictability is part of the fun of modular synth music creation, but can also get chaotic and frustrating. Good luck on your journey!

Thank you for this! Are you on fw Tempi71? Because when I power my Tempi the knob changes tempo and not state selection.

Great question! I'd have to check my firmware, but I still think I can help! To change it so your knob changes state selection tap both a and b at the same time to enter clock edit mode, and press the channel 1 button until it turns red. Tap a and b again to exit clock edit mode. Now your knob should change states.
