Learn how to add a touch of crochet to any garment! In this video I'll show you how to cut evenly spaced holes, blanket stitch, then begin your first row of single crochet. Read more and find the patterns I used here - leahday.com/blogs/machinequil...

What a great fun video, I love to crochet but I seem to just sew all the time instead. Oh, I want to try this again. PS--Love the photos of Betty. She is such a beautiful baby!

Super cute! Betty, of course, will make it much cutter! Wish I crocheted better, I seem to get lost in the directions 😒

Practice practice practice! I also struggle with instructions so projects like this where I can wing it work great.

Leah, is there anything you can tell a newbie about the “concept” of crochet that would help? I can’t seem to keep my knots straight and it doesn’t help that I’m left-handed. Everyone in my family can do this but I cannot seem to grasp the concept. Can’t even make a chain that is even stitches. It’s like I pull through too hard. But I’m everything else I can get the concept and manipulate the fabric (quilting, dressmaking, potholders but not crochet or knitting). Am I doomed to never be able to do this?

Instead of doing the Blanket Stitch, couldn't you just use the crochet hook?

If you used a smaller hook and smaller yarn, yes. For the holes I cut, this was the best option for me.
