Dr. you are so correct. The nurses are not accurately taking bp. Most of your suggestions are not followed. Im always rushing to get into the drs office. I once suggested that they take the bp at the end of the visit. The readings were different!

I totally agree! I told a medical assistant I had to go to the restroom before she took my BP. She told me it wouldn't affect my BP. Plus, my heart was racing to get to my appt and grabbing all my stuff. Barely had time to sit after I checked in.

I just get nervous when i see a bp machine, my body is fit and excersize, dont smoke or drink and eat healthy. But from past experience i just get anxious when i do it even at home. My heartbeat also rises to 90-100 when doing it. So even if live a healthy life i cant get a real measurement because these machines make me nervous. if my heartbeat would stay low im sure my bp would be lower

Thanks for sharing. Am learning a lot from your videos. Very often when you visit the doctor, the nurse immediately takes your BP without allowing you to rest for a few minutes mainly because they are other patients waiting. You get nervous and anxiety sets in. When your bp is taken, it tends to be high and you know that the numbers showing are definitely not accurate. I have experienced this a couple of times and what often comes to your mind is that you have high BP. You are given medication but in the real sense, you should not be taken these medications.

Most doctors don’t even take the your blood pressure correctly they let your arm, just dangle downwards, or hold it straight out without any support and your feet not supported and then they take your blood pressure and there could be a 10 to 15 points difference by doing it the wrong way versus the proper way. I have to thank you Adam for all the great videos very educational. Thank you.

This check list for properly measuring blood pressure is rarely followed at my physicals. I already have been diagnosed for hypertension for a number of years. Serious stress from work overloads pushed me down a slippery slope of bad health that resulted in hypertension among other health issues. For both my work and personal physicals,I get rushed into the exam room, am seated on the exam table where my feet are dangling, the nurse immediately begins placing the cuff on my arm and am almost never provided with a place to rest my arm where it should be even with my heart. All of this hurried process doesn’t allow me to rest, thereby setting me up for white coat syndrome because I know my BP will be higher than normal, which will then prompt the nurse and doctor to wrongly judge me as being more hypertensive than I typically am. The medical process has long been criticized for “taking their sweet time;” consequently, they now seem to make time wherever possible. I am pretty sure that this pushing through the BP process is part of that. I will need to put my feet down - literally - insisting that these proper steps are taken in the future. Thank you for showing the proper way to perform this procedure.

So common. The Nurse takes you to get height/weight. Then Immediately sits you down in a chair with no arms and puts the BP cuff over your shirt sleeve, sometimes on the right arm, and immediately takes a BP reading. 🙄 It’s pathetic that the majority of Dr’s offices don’t follow the proper protocol to get an accurate BP reading. Then the doubly frustrating part of it after they take your BP reading, you’re taken to the examination room where you sit and wait for 10-15minutes for the Dr to show up because they are ALWAYS behind schedule. Why not give the patient a chance to sit for at least 5 minutes quietly in a proper chair BEFORE they take your BP!?!? Soooooo frustrating!!!

Thanks for your video on accurately checking one's blood pressure. I just bought the checkme bp monitor and was in the process of registering with Vihealth to sync the monitor. Unfortunately, I couldn't complete the registration as it was asking me for an access code, could you pls let me know where I could get that code or ID. Many thanks for all that you do.

Theres nothing resting about it. you're fighting traffic to get there. And I don't agree with feet flat on the floor. I am more comfortable and restful with my ankles gently crossed as a yoga pose. It does not alter my BP readings at home. I get great readings at home sitting in my recliner, with my ankles crossed and my arm propped comfortably on a pillow. I prefer a wrist cuff. Arm cuffs pump too tightly and my muscles start tensing up.
