One important point also is to use eye protection, even when staring at the UV light hitting the piece.

Thank you for mentioning that! (In contrast to "Uncle Jessy" in his video)..... Strong UV Light exposure is one of the most likely reason for the lens of the human eye to develop cataract! Those UV-Printers do not have a protective housing without reason... UV Protection gogles cost maybe around 10 bucks, but can save you from having to get eye surgery! And also wear a FFP2 or 3 mask... those resin fumes aren't healthy as well.

Not necessary because the UV wavelengths are around 405nm on SLA printers which is not harmful to humans, that being said it's best not to look at it directly anyway however I doubt eye protection is needed.

I'm new to resin printing and 3D printing in general, and just wanted to pop in while I'm binging your videos and let you know how incredibly helpful this all is! Very well made tutorials, and I'm excited to have this skill set and resource for my cosplays. :)

Yep, I would say the resin cleaning worked 100% this was all printed after that. Yeah the helmet seems to be holding up really well so far

cool stuff! been painting resin and using a small UV light to fix models and fill gaps, never did something this large!!!

Great video. Loved the oops moment. Totally something I would have done. I wonder if it would have been any easier and had similar result if you had used glue to join, then brushed on resin to fill the gaps.

Very, very cool!

Lesson to be learned is that when you weld 2 pieces of metal together, you grind a bevel into the 2 pieces and add material to the V notch for a complete connection. So when trying to weld Resin prints with Resin the same should apply. Sand a bevel into both faces to be connected and use thin layers at a time and cure each one. This will take a bit longer but will give a better overall weld especially once sanded.

Or you could easily model the bevel into the piece before print....just sayin!

i do resin welding a lot in my helmet builds, first use the super glue to do the initial hold, then u want to brush the resin on the inside of the helmet so u dont lose any details on the outside and less clean up.

Something I've been investing some time in lately is learning to key my models as I transition from the relatively huge FDM printer to the half size resin plate. This is a snap in most modelers but I also watched a vid on youtube using meshmixer. It was a bit more work but if one wants to go the free route without having to deal with a dedicated modeling program, I can say that'd be my option too if I were in that boat. Thank you ancient zbrush version.

This is exactly why I wanna learn how to add mortise to the separate pieces, it would make assembly soooo much easier

Very cool and a great demo on how quickly the resin cures. Wasn't there someone advertising on youtube about this fantastic glue which cures with a UV pen? Now we know how it's done!

awesome vid. just sliced an object this morning that I was wondering how I was going to join back together. I will definately give this a shot. seems like a small amount of superglue to hold it in place then weld might be an easier way to go.

this is a cool thing man! A hint from me, if the parts are too narrow for a printed joint, you can also put holes for 1 mm steel pins in your part and stick that together. It is a bit more to do in preprocessing, but it will saves a bunch of time and nerves while assembling.

Been printing alot of Mando helmets myself for buddies on my sunlu S8 and used the cut files to print some on my ender 3. Really great files.

Great project. Nice to see the resin welding process. Going to be picking up a Phrozen Mighty soon and hope to do bigger builds too, not being limited by the build volume. Is there a strong (not so brittle) resin out there in the market yet?

I was able to get some dice I printed fully transparent by sanding them down to 2k grit, and then buffing them with some wax..it was elegoo clear blue though and not thay dark...but it was thicker than the visor I think I also saw some guides for making clear lenses, by adding clear UV after cure and then curing it...haven't tested this though.. Sick helmet man, keep up the awesome work

I know this is an older video, but I would love to see something on mixing different resins for their unique properties.

Great idea. Same as welding with a 3D pen. Might not be cheapest but definitely handy if u make any oops moments and get cracks or splits

I've definitely done this with dnd terrain where the resin cracks when pulling off supports.

Ive got a head like a house cat, so Id have to print that thing at like 150%, with that said, awesome video as usual, lots of great info even if its a couple years old.

So I have an idea, now FDM print and brush on resin to smooth out layer lines since it cures so fast and easy to sand.

I didn't know too much about resin and hardening it with UV light. However, I laughed so hard when he put the light on his cup of resin, even before he said anything. He mentioned how fast it hardened so many times before. I'm glad he laughed too

Seen this a while ago from 3d printing pro... I like to combo, "spot weld" with super glue to hold in place, then resin "weld" for strong smooth bond

SUPER STRONG mix - Equal parts of each. Siraya Tech - Tenacious - Sculpt - Blu I've made parts out of this mix for racing motorcycles that I've tested and have lasted 6-7 months, so far. Printing them on the Phrozen Transform, btw.

I plastic sheild like for grinding and plasma cutting will fit the bill for the visor, and not mucking about. you can either get a clear on and put car tint on it once cut to fit, or but one thats already tinted to use.

Man, that baklava looks really sweet! I was debating between the Saturn and the Mars 3, and I think this video ended the debate. Going with the Mars 3.

I recommend getting the head measuring calipers. I bought mine for like $4 on AliExpress.

Thanks for this awesome video! I attempted something similar, but my pieces didn't fit. I can't find any videos that cover possible issues when printing multiple parts. Could it have been the angle? Or maybe the shape got deformed while printing? My cut lines didn't come out very straight. Any suggestions or links would be of great help!

So does the pen light penetrate the resin deep enough to cure it all the way inside the joint, or does it just cure the surface?

Great job! Looks like you really could have used a helper or a jig to hold the pieces in place.

Funny this came out I am in the post process for one of these as we speak lol. Had to 3d model a helmet stand for it baseplate is the beskar steel logo and led lights run up to the top to light up the helmet from inside out and throw a downward light shadow.

I recently purchased the Saturn 8K and Wash & Cure Station and I'm itching to print my own Gar Saxon or Paz Vizla helmet but I'm gonna have to practice first! Oh, on a side note and something that I had to rewind and watch again because it made me chuckle, you said you put on a baklava so you wouldn't have skin contact with the recently cured resin. Well baklava is actually a Mediterranean confectionary! "Baklava (/bɑːkləˈvɑː, ˈbɑːkləvɑː/,[1] or /bəˈklɑːvə/;[2] Ottoman Turkish: باقلوا ) is a layered pastry dessert made of filo pastry, filled with chopped nuts, and sweetened with syrup or honey. It was one of the most popular sweet pastries of Ottoman cuisine" The word you meant to say was Balaklava, just an "L&A" missing lol.

Reckon you could use the resin to slush cast the inside of a FDM helmet to strengthen the inside?

Do you think it would make a weaker joint if you used super glue to stick them into place, and then did a couple layers of the resin over top to smooth out the crack? It seems like it might help to avoid having to hold the two pieces with one hand while you shine the light with the other.

could you spray prime it with platidip spraypaint to give it extra protection?

You might 3d print a stand for the penlight so you have both hands free for hold/moving the parts under it, if it becomes something you do often it might actually be a good idea to rig up a dedicated resin "welder" with a light on a stand and a foot switch :)

Hiya , I want to get a resin printer as I'm fed up with my Ender 3v2 keeping on needing calibration etc. So my question is, which is better? This Elegoo Saturn or the Anycubic Mono X?

You should do a Video on the Ethernet port use on the Saturn I just unpacked my New Saturn and have no idea what it's for? The manual doesn't say much about it.

Is it possible to reinforce the back of the seams with something like fibreglass or carbon fiber strips that has been soaked in resin?

I'm trying to reproduce this, have one of the front face pieces printing now, but I have struggled so much using the Tenacious in combination with the Elegoo ABS Like resin. What settings are you using? I started having some success raising the build plate further and slower, and also bumping the exposure time up to 6 seconds, but even then it's been hit and miss. Any recommendations?

hay Uncle jessy im new to 3d resin printing and i had a question ? when printing in peace's how do you no how to scale everything so that it will all fit together when putting it together ?

One thing that might speed up the process would be modeling some keys along the joins, like a plastic model kit, on the inside where they won't be seen. That way it holds itself together while welding.

Does the resin bond to pla? Printed a mando helmet, already assembled and started sanding and priming it (which was a pain) but pla welding with soldering iron has left quite a mess on the inside. Could I use resin like this to coat the inside?

What resin profile/setting were used on the Saturn? As of now Saturn just has a default profile.

Hey Jessy, what scale % do you recommend to print this helmet on Elegoo Saturn 3 Ultra? Thanks in advance.

This is the type of thing that FDM printers are made for. I printed two Mandolorian helmets, one of them slightly oversized to accommodate my oversized head. Both printed in a single piece. Using PLA, the helmets came out extremely solid. The normal-sized one took almost a 1KG spool. The larger one took a little over a spool. Spools are about $20-$25. The printer I used is a X1 Sidewinder with a 300mm x 300mm x 400mm build area that retails for as low as $362. I have four resin printers, two from Elegoo, so I'm not an FDM-or-die kind of person. Resin is just too brittle and expensive for wearable prints, and the perfect application for an inexpensive FDM printer. I think every maker's second printer should be the kind they don't have.

I have the mars 2 pro. I want to build large helmets on it. What’s a program I can download or buy to break it into multiple parts?

This seems more like gap filling than gluing or "welding" since the joint inside part doesn't get any light and wont cure. So you only have adhesion on the outsides. Still a great video I enjoy the channel.

I use a 60w LED UV light and clear resin, it cures all the way through a 15mm thick part.

I am in the process now of printing this on my CR-10S and it is almost done. 94 hours in so far
