As a 6’8 junior, post moves are more of understanding angles and knowing defensive stances, there’s not a single stance that can guard every move therefore if you know the angles and can feel where the pressure is put on you then you can score every time

Verry true, it is all about feeling where your defender is at and then knowing what to do, not as some people think just pure power no brain.

As a fellow skills and development coach I have to say it was a very nicely well done tutorial. I have one simple yet important critique, we must teach both bigs and guards using post moves to keep the ball a bit higher to avoid having the ball stripped. From the gather or pick up of the ball when goin into the shot, the ball should be immediately raised between chest to head level and on the outside of the defender. It creates a higher percentage shot and makes it easier to draw fouls. Unless you know that you are going into a counter move where you sweep/hard rip the ball through the player should keep the ball high. Onve again good video.

It’s not well done, he should’ve had a defender on him or used examples from games, and could’ve talked about how understanding angles in the post and when to use each move he just gave us options, not actually when or how to use them efficiently

I have to say as a smaller guy my whole life, maxing out at 5'8. I always worked on post moves to create space and get a shot off. Now that I'm older they have proved to be very effective against younger guys that don't play much defense and just want to jack up deep 3s. I now watch a lot of Melo, livingston, Cassell, Duncan, olojuwaun tapes to learn foot work.

I think you missed some important details such as... how to use your body as a shield. How to use defenders force against him. It's more like fencing than a ballet. It's a good post move tutorial for guards and undersized forwards/centers. For big guys you need to engage the contact, drive to the basket, not away from the basket. Ohh, and one more thing. It's always best to master one simple move, and over time add counter moves.

For the first one, if your taller don’t dribble, just catch and use your pivot foot in a quick motion, dribbling, although adds power, will slow you down and give the defense more time to think of the best way to guard you, just a quick non dribble motion is better.

I’ve found that with the hook shot you should fade into the basket because if u fade away it’s kinda easy to get blocked with all the centers being super tall but if you fade into the defender they lose most of their vertical because they can’t jump high diagonally

Question, I used to play at the 2 when I was younger. Haven’t played basketball in nearly 7 years, I’m 19 and 192cm. If I get back in should I play power forward? Casually speaking ofc

Should you always use backboard down low? (My coach is always griping at me for trying to swish it)
