HOW TO: 2017 CIVIC TYPE R FRONT STRUT REMOVAL! WATCH IF YOU NEED HELP!!!

Watch this video if you are having trouble taking off the front struts on a Civic Type R! I put together this short tutorial to help Civic TYPE R owners and shops on what parts to remove to get the front struts off the car. This will come in handy when you are upgrading to coilovers or upgrading your springs! FYI: This is not a complete DIY. I did the video while we were installing Eibach springs on my friend’s TYPE R. Removing the front struts on this car can be very tedious and confusing if you are not a seasoned technician. Honda definitely did not take any short cuts on engineering the front suspension assembly. On another note, the rears are very easy to work with. If this video helped you, like the video and subscribe for more! If you would like a complete DIY video, please comment below. I hope this helps and good luck!

I wish you’d show how to cut the bump stops and location in the video, can this be done after installing or while everything is installed or do they need to come out, for lowering spring installs?

You definitely need to cut them, I just installed my spoon springs and we didn’t cut them like the instruction say too and I’m bottoming out on any bumps, you want to take off 15mm from the front and rear.

How much force did you have to apply with the ball joint separating tool? I torqued mine down way past the point where all other ball joints broke free and it wouldn't pop free. I pretty much did as much as you did but also released the tie rod to get more movement of the knuckle assembly. Guess I'll pick up a beefier separating tool and try again. Also, did you remove locating bolt in the upper strut hat to allow movement for camber adjustment?

john bauer use a generous amount of force :). You will hear a very loud popping noise once it comes out.

Do you need a press to get the ball joint back in?

I’ve lowered my R w/Tein springs. Put Swift on 1st,but after installation,I was getting a knocking noise on the right side. Changed to Tein,& I’m still getting the noise. It doesn’t knock the whole time, but certain bumps I’ll hear it. Everything is tight,& done right. Any suggestions on what it could be?

Did you cut 15mm off of your front and rear bump stops if not that’s what it is?

@@threadoflife. Yeah. Cut the bump stops. It ended up being the sway bar end link. We didn’t loosen the lower nut, it came loose from when we took the top nut off.
