How THIS can get your tax money back! (the ultimate refund)

Ойын-сауық

Aside from business and personal income taxes, I pay a crazy amount of tax throughout the year the is specific to all my different motor vehicles, and that tax goes into the operating budget of the state Department Of Transportation. And just like every other business or organization out there, the state needs vendors to provide services to it as well. So when I get called to tow state owned vehicles, even though I have to perform a service and work for it, it's nice to be able to see some of those tax dollars I spend come back to me.

    It's a beautiful spring day on the east coast too! As for taxes on businesses, government has gone crazy figuring out all the ways to extract money from us. Some are important and some are over-kill. People "complain" about the cost of goods and services but are totally in the dark about the cost of doing business. Business owners are hit with numerous hidden costs. In your case, I think the mileage fees are absurd.

  • @georgevindo

    Oh, governments all over are thinking about taxing cars for mileage every year too. The craziest one I heard was one mayor we had, was going to tax us for rain, according to our roof and driveway area, before she was booted out. Most of our roofs drain onto our lawns but I guess she thought it all went into the storm sewers.

    Everyone hates tax season. We all think all they do is take take take. We get nothing in return. But what we always forget is we have the best military in the world. And keeping that military up and ready at a drop of a dime require lots of training and continuing training. To make sure those who want to harm this nation stay their azs over across the pond. What we should be fighting is the fact that they are trying to take what we earn away from us. That is Social Security. Someone of us had to deal with some sitty azz people just to make a living.

    Yeah, but state governments are trying to figure out ways to impose mileage taxes, and they have been since hybrids hit the roads and they're no longer making bank on gasoline taxes. In fact, it was Oregon, ironically enough, that started trying to impose those taxes, back in the day. Oregon and Washington states, with the most "greenies" per square inch, taxing people for doing what the environazis have said they should do - drive ostensibly greener vehicles.

Add the taxes to the extremely high insurance rates and you’ll soon figure out that you’re usually gonna make way more money feeding folks apple pie at macdonalds than you will owning a truck. In Minnesota, Towing companies can purchase annual "towing" permits for $300 bucks. That one permit covers their entire company fleet of trucks, regardless of how many trucks they own. It allows "tow trucks to transport disabled vehicles to repair facilities. The tow truck can be ANY weight, any length, day or night, in any weather condition". (not sure of the exact quote but this gives you an idea what the permit allows) Of course around here most larger towing companies also haul heavy equipment for construction companies and rental companies.... and "transporting construction equipment to and from job sites" is NOT the same as "transporting disabled vehicles to a repair facilities" so we as drivers need to pay close attention to our weights when hauling equipment..... but when we're towing trucks, we really don't have much to worry about. We also have "emergency vehicle exemption". If we are called by any law enforcement agency to perform work, we are considered an emergency vehicle, (no, we cant run red/blue lights and sirens like Ron Prat) and then we are exempt from pretty much all commercial vehicle rules and laws.

  • @SlipFitGarage

    @SlipFitGarage

    Ай бұрын

    @@mrfunnylookinhayes9088 No, I didn't really "forget" about the city of Minneapolis, I just didn't mention it because it had nothing to do with the point I was trying to make. lolol. One city's regulations in the entire state doesn't affect most people. However, I will say they require even more than just a permit if you're actually towing FOR the city. I did snow emergency and street sweeping tows for the city of Minneapolis in the mid 1990's and they also required TRAA driver certification, finger printing, and criminal background checks. This was the mid 1990's. Background checks may be somewhat normal today to work for some motor clubs, but in the 1990's, background checks were unheard of in the towing business. At least around here, anyway. None of the towing companies I have worked for since we did Minneapolis city towing have bothered with the city towing permit. We're not based in that city so we don't care about their permits. If we need to pickup a customers car in that city, we just go get it. Period. In fact, I suspect that permit is only for companies who do private property impounds (parking lot tows) IN the city of Minneapolis, which we never have. That city is irrelevant to me, and to most people who don't live or work there.

    Front Load garbage (pete 3/520) we would use the manual fan on high speed hills. In the wet the trucks are sketchy to drive with the transmission brakes on so the engine fan was a huge help. Braking is not a garbage trucks strong suit....

    Hey Casey, Ya gotta use every tool at your disposal when you have a business that deals in the big bucks. knowing how to do that is the key. Way to go. P.S. How much fun is it going to be ten years from now viewing Rilies little snippets ! Hopefully by then, she will be on the payroll as an official spokesperson or even an equipment operator for Cascade Enterprises.

    When I was in graduate school, to help pay the bills, I drove commercial charter motor coach (yes a bus, similar to Greyhound but completely different.). As part of the pre trip inspection I had to make sure, even though except in Maryland and Utah, we were not required to stop at the weigh station (Things my have changed in the last 30 years) that the IFTA sticker was current. And...I had to record every single mile in every single state I drove in, regardless if I purchased fuel there or not (For instance, nearly 35 years later, I can tell you for a fact that I-70 between Ohio and PA through West Virginia is exactly 14 miles. Washington D.C. was a fun one to report...D.C. straddles Maryland and Virginia and it is not it's own taxing district. Since the coaches I drove only had the hub--o-meters and not a dash odometer, and since D.C. is not delineated as to exactly where it is...I just made crap up. (I apologize to the office staff.) I am quite sure that the office made crap up as well and all applicable taxes were paid (we had about 120 coaches).

    It's been said that businesses fail due to mismanagement. I think a bigger issue is all the rules, regulations, taxes and the tons of paperwork relating to operating a business with employess that if not followed, will lead to hefty fines and failure. It's not easy.

When I hear a good one I'll call her into the room to share it with her. The "Get out and [bleep] work for it" had her laughing bigtime. Great video, man!
