Jemaine Clement doesnt get enough praise, it all goes to Taika, don't get me wrong Taika does well, but he was co staring and co directing with Jermaine, and during the time of the TV show Taika was doing Thor so Jermaine did the majority of writing and producing for this one.

If one has seen the original pilot for What We Do in the Shadows, you'd understand that it is a passion project of Jermaine and Taika. They had been working on this for years before it was green lit for the movie. And though Taika has less to do with the TV show, the truth is if Taika hadn't become popular as he is, the show never would've seen the light of day.

The night out with the Baron is the most hilarious vampire satire I have ever seen. "The baron is being propelled by his own vomit!"

I love the movie, and while I don’t think it’s quite as good, the show is a great expansion of the universe, and I think the premise works a little better as a weekly TV show. Looking forward to season 2 immensely!

Sometimes I wonder what happens to mosquitoes when they bite people who are really high or drunk. I think it would make a funny short animation to have a mosquito buzzing around, then it bites a junkie and drops dead from an overdose.

I loved the Vampire Council with everyone they got together for that scene.

I was kinda iffy too but then I realized it's being produced by the same guys so it's a really great adaptation. Colin Robinson is my favorite he's such a clever bastard though lol

Colin Robinson perfectly embodies the most boring guy ever. I just love how he is so socially engaging, while somehow pulling off being socially hated at the same time :D His ancestry (no spoilers) was also just perfect. Maybe the best line of that episode.

The TV series is brilliant - Nandor (Kayvan Novak) is specifically hilarious, though every cast member is gold.

I gotta say, I love this show. The idea of the energy vampire is amazing, and I found myself laughing out loud at a TV show. That kind of thing is rare. Also, spoilers ahead The fact that their familiar, who I identify with on so many damn levels, has Hellsing blood, tries to deny he will be a vampire hunter, KILLS MULTIPLE VAMPIRES AND ACCIDENTLY JOINS A VAMPIRE HUNTER GROUP...its just so fucking great, adding some tension and drama that felt actually good.

I really liked the episode where there were vampires from other movies and the vampires from the what we do in the shadows movie. Also werewolf in one episode was very good and Barron is pretty scary too. At first I didn't like the idea of the energy vampire but it's actually pretty funny 😂

I remember the episode with the fight scene with werewolves in the roof or a tall building. Throwing a squeaky toy to the ground was genious. Laughed So much.

The episode where they go out with in the city with the elder vampire Baron,is some of the funniest shit you will ever see on tv. And that's just one episode of a hillarious season.

The way it expands the universe is wonderful, and the new cast is so brilliant and hilarious it's so easy to transition. The cursed hat is one of my favorite plotlines in any comedy series

This show is genius! My dad was so excited to introduce me to this show. He loves the old traditional vampire stories so he thought this was hilarious. Good call dad!

WWditS is a wondrous movie. And the TV series is also doing great. The very first exposition from Guillermo was absolutely hilarious, especially accompanied by Saint Saen's Danse Macabre as background music. They just managed to capture all that is good in the movie. Guillermo idolizing Antonio Banderas in Interview with the Vampire just had me rolling down on the floor LOL.

You hit the nail on the head, I loved the movie and the show just felt like a longer version of the movie and new ideas. Its fantastic and on the same level as the movie.

I just watched two seasons in two days and it really holds up to the movie. Most fun I had in a long time with any tv show

In addition to the great writing and improv is the amazing casting they did for this show. Every one of the main actors is perfect in their role. And the 2nd season continues this with some terrific cameos. Best comedy on television. One of the few shows I appointment view.

i'm a year late in finding it but i love this show! really hope we get more than two seasons. colin robinson is a genius character in that he's so bland but really just as perverse and depraved as the other vampires. loved when he was feeding at the town council and 'couldn't stand up right now, if you know what i mean'.

If you haven't already watched or heard about Wellington Paranormal yet I would very much recommend checking that out. I hadn't heard about it somehow until recently and just got through all of them and it was pretty great. Its a spin-off from the WWDITS movie following the two cops and its also made by Taika and Jemaine.

I love the show. One of things I like most is the continuity of the different story lines. Most tv sitcoms or even dramas will cover one event an episode and it's done and gone with the exception of the occasional multi-part episode or return character. Things like the topiary garden, the larpers, Jeff, or even the vampire council keep popping back up. You get the feeling you are seeing a continuous story rather than pointless unattached vignettes. Unfortunately I have only been able to watch the first 2 episodes of the newest season, but I hope when I can get back to it will be just as entering as the previous season.

You missed the part where the set design costumes and makeup are exceptional

When I first saw clips of the show I actually had to think about if it was just a part of the movie I forgot about or was cut. I didn’t even realize it was a tv show because of how closely it resembled the movie. Now that’s what I call good tv adaptation.

It's got that weird combo of irreverence and heart. And the familiar is a bad ass

the meeting they attended was Staten Island City Council although the show's creators sort of confused city council and planning commission and also don't seem to know there's usually a time limit on public comments.

Please let me know when it is available to NZ ? I'm dying to watch it properly. Not Nui bits of it on bloody kaka that our whanua can see? I would love to see this screened in NZ . I haven't watched it either for the same reasons mentioned in the video and I saw a few gags in the previews that first appeared in the short film, then in the movie. If they had to keep using the same gags why would I want to watch the same thing yet again?

Finally, an American series that rivals my favorite British comedies. Matt Berry is always hilarious but so are the rest of the cast. Great writing, just the right "American Werewolf in London" level of blood and gore mixed with low key, awkward comedy in banal situations and banter between the characters. So original, quirky, and fun, I'm glad it was recommended to me, I'm really enjoying it. It's got it all, great cinematography and effects, killer production design, sound design, even the show open is so competently crafted. Nicely done Jemaine and Taika! 17 Emmy noms don't lie, this is out of the box filmmaking in the guise of an episodic comedy, I can see why FX has already signed for S5 and 6. if you haven't watched, you should!

I was told about this show by a friend last week...I was sceptical but I decided to watch the pilot. I've now finished 2 seasons in 4 days...its honestly one of the funniest shows I've ever watched! The script is consistently brilliant and the main actors bring it to life perfectly. It says a lot that this show is largely unknown while things like Big Bang Theory are held up as a great sitcom.

This comedy is in the same realm as Norseman. Love them both.

Unfortunately, i haven’t watched it because I don’t know how to find it. I’d love to watch it. I’d watch just to see Doug Jones as Baron Afanas, and Tilda Swinton guest staring as Tilda. Knowing it lives up to the film just makes it better. But I still have no idea how to get it...

That is insane I was a doubter for the very same exact reason I thought the show could not possibly live up to the movie but I was wrong it is dead up to the movie and some parts are even funnier than the movie I hope they get as many show taped as they possibly can because we all know what happens to very very good shows where is it's always sunny being the exception getting canceled then make a nice big DVD set of those shows
