do you know anything about level 6 plates and how those work exactly? yesterday i died twice to blunt dmg with a BR5 in the front on a M1 rig too 855, i havent caught or heard anything about them and have plenty if you would like to do some testing.

I've been running the press with a class 4 front plate almost exclusively for the past week LOL had no clue I was running around with a PACA on my chest

About 80% of my deaths this wipe have been headshots. Almost every time I've worn a face shield it has saved my life. Face armor seems to be REALLY important.

think about it, with plates stopping rounds and causing no damage then it is more likely to get shot in the face because of spraying rounds.

Tldr: small plate carrier is going to the bottom of the chart while armor vests with alot of armored zones should be utilized as much as possible (avoid the Zhuk-3 Press for the time being)

Amazing work Sir Beef, I can see this video becoming the go to for anyone who wants to truely understand how the new system works and what the intricacies of the various armours are.

I imagine the press armor is an easy fix, very cool and detailed system, i can't think of a game that does this any better right now.

​@@itsnotmilytarkov is not your game, I have never played this game and only bought it about 2 weeks ago, everyone kicks my ass, I have yet to extract with anything, but I'd be lying to say I didn't immerse myself in every minute of gameplay, for a game to keep me hooked while NEVER WINNING is just different levels of gaming I never thought possible, yes I'm definitely biased because I have never experienced such a mechanic, maybe I'll hate it later, but for now I'm enjoying it. Two weeks of constant fun/dread is proof that the game is working to its aspiration to a very big capacity, sorry about the rant, EFT is just that different.

@@abdou.the.heretic Tarkov is different but that doesn't make these additions better. All these new systems did was add more crap on their engine for their already strained servers to have to keep in sync and fail horrendously. Desync feels fucking horrible again this patch. They need to fix their servers before introducing more complex systems to them. Be great if they would fix their audio too before making other mechanics that just make the game more unnecessarily bloated.

Thank you for testing the Zhuk press. Good to have some corroborating information out there.

According to airwingmarine's video, the armors (Ex: MMAC) that have their soft armors appear as if they're hard plates in the "armor areas" also act as hard plates. They don't give you blunt damage on a non penetrating shot. It's also interesting that they have the same hitboxes. I wonder how effective these armored areas act with both the plate and the soft armor, considering the soft armor is acting as a plate it might take like 20 shots with a low pen ammo before you'd even take a single point of damage.

Yeah it's an interesting theoretical point although in practise I think it will matter rarely. You have to have a bullet stopped by the class 2 for this to happen, and I'm more concerned about the zero armor around the outside! But it is interesting indeed

​@@GigabeefAnd caring about the lack of protection outside the plate hitbox highlights the entire problem with the armor change in the first place. The armor system changed for the better but the health system did not. Plates are meant to protect your vitals so you can live to fight another day. But according to tarkov, thorax is thorax, so if I'm wearing a swimmer cut plate and take a round just under my collarbone, if it has enough flesh damage it kills me even though it didn't hit anything that would do any immediately lethal damage.

Great info, this mirrors what I've found looking in the game files and testing in SPT. I've been telling a friend of yours this stuff, not sure if he's relayed anything to you, but if you need/want any more info just let me know 😉 Side plates have two different formats, "high" and "low", which is why you observed some armors having different side armor coverage.

what might complement these armor changes is a *vital hits* system, at it's most basic could be shots farther away from the center of the player do less damage. You can go more specific, like in the red orchastra/rising storm series, have spines, hearts, arteries and such modeled. But that might be going to deep for Tarkov. Armor being less protective and thats it in general seems goofy

8:19 you can actually zoom a bit more with the R1500 by using a bug. Just use your "look around key" and then it will zoom the view even more by lowering the FoV. It might help viewers see accurately.

Kirasa can carry plates and has neck protection and you can buy at lv2 Ragman

A side note on "3. - Some rigs use plate area" -- AirwingMarine testing revealed that on these rigs the soft armor acts like level 2 hard plates, if the plates are 0'd and the soft armor catches a bullet you don't take blunt damage. Don't know if thats a bug or if thats supposed to be happening, no other armors do that.

Key timestamps: - 1:18 for soft armor coverage - 3:58 for FRONT plate coverage - 8:54 for SIDE/FRONT plate coverage Your investigation on coverage is great to know, we have an objective way of knowing what's protected now instead of guessing. 3:58 is the reason I was against this armor system in the first place. The plate covers all vital areas. Damage beside it shouldn't be able to kill you any faster than damage to the arm. But Tarkov doesn't have the hit boxes to support that so you end up with an inconsistent mess where you can get 1 tapped around the plate and near the armpit. When in reality, that should be just a flesh wound. As it stands, a plate fails to do what it was designed to do - save your life. Because irl it covers all vital areas. But in Tarkov, it doesn't, cause the "vital area" is bigger than it should be.

Counterintuitive solution but maybe need hitbox should have damage split between head & thorax? That was you can't really onetap easily and it also still a somewhat critical shot like it should be realistically.

Right now I'm liking the Kirasa. It's cheap, gives a decent amount of all around soft armor protection including the neck, and you can stuff a high level plate in the front and people might not notice so you can get it back in insurance more often.

Well, Kirasa is T2 soft. I think Thor is the best, vest for around 70k on flea, T3 soft + very lightweight itself, only 2kg or somethjing like this. Only no neck protection but Kirasa was T2 anyway

2:10 irl you might not get an actual concussion but your bells going to be rising if you catch shrapnel or even a round in your neck protector

If what beef showed is true for all hitboxes, it's still basically the same as before besides the armpit, or if they don't have neck protection.

Another day, another video about how armor works. I love this wipe.

I hope they give us the option to get plate carriers without the plates and maybe have some sort of hideout craft for new but less advanced plates. Just cut out some steel with a torch., would like to see more makeshift stuff in the game.

Don't know how possible but how cool would a 3d vitals hitbox for players. Not for individual organs but just a smaller hitbox within the exsisting thorax/stomach hitbox. To prevent getting killed by grazing hits. There is a reason plates don't cover our whole chest.

Seems like it should be possible to have a smaller vital hitbox within the thorax. This would also serve to balance rigs like MMAC - so that we're not simply avoiding a whole list of armors just because they don't protect the full thorax hitbox. Plus cut out a lot of frustrating deaths. More realistic too (if we care about realism in a game).

I was intrigued when you say the Press Armour is bugged, since that's an Armour I use heavily. I just booted up Tarkov to check since I've got like 5 or 6 Press Armours in my stash, from all sources, being ones that are crafted, found in raid and ones that i've took into raid and repaired the damage. All of them are still displaying that the Zhuk-3 Plate is covering F.Plate...How odd.

Dunno. The plate carriers are generally lighter. I mean, I have a plate that with a full kit, keeps me at 18 KILOS! 18! I can loot so much but still stay under the encumbrance thresh hold, allowing me to stay dead quiet. I see your points and appreciate them, but if this is intended weight values, I think I'm gonna prefer plate carriers over the larger body armours every single time

Press vest has just been fixed!

Someone has probably mentioned this already but what airwing found with the soft armors showing as front plate, the aramid soft armor actually acted as a hard plate, so with another plate it would give you essentially 2 hard plates. I think this is a bug but it makes more sense how it happened because its only on armors that the soft armor is the shape of the plate. There were some bugs of people getting 1 shot and a plate tanking high pen rounds that could explain some situations of people not thinking they are protected with these armors. Maybe it's meant to be that way and it gives you more protection were there's armor but less overall body protection.

@@tihollis I have no clue what you mean. Giga literally gives a list of the affected items. Airwing stated that he didn't know them all. However, Giga didn't mention this specifically and seemed to have a very negative opinion of armors that this happens to. I'm not sure giga fully understood how the soft armor is functioning on the affected armor that he stated, thus is why I made my comment. Idk what your statement is supposed to mean or add.

I got two tapped with green traces thorax shots , using a MMAC with side plates 🙃

So the real takeaway for getting optimal protection on vitals is to use western armor with neck and arm protection, like Osprey and Gen4 Assaut. Sad to see side plates are not that useful, since the sides are super exposed right now.

I'm using them because they're cheap on the traders and they do help vs stomach, but yeah if you get shot in the thorax above you're gonna have a bad time regardless

They undeniably increases your protection. And since they all are either class 5 or 6, they often are the most protected area of your PMC. 8:55. The hitbox isn't small at all, they're about half the stomach protection that the SAPI plates (FR. FRONT) gives. And so at least having one on the left side might save you from time to time considering how the PMC stance is so angled.

Only problem I've found running the osprey and gen4 is that you go into raids already overweight 😢 Not to mention when people see them they 100% loot them from you. The thor is class 3 soft armour and ends up being like 7kg, but no neck protection from memory. The Zhuk and redut are also class 3 with neck protection and come out lower weight than the osprey/gen4

Airwingmarine got different results regarding the armor rigs such as the MMAC and TV-110, he said that these armors have a weird quirk where the soft behaves as hard plates, meaning they don't give blunt damage. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Bullets going through the arm into the chest gives me many Insurgency Sandstorm flashbacks where you run around with heavy armor with full hp just to get 1 tapped by a 9x19mm berretta because it when through your unarmored arm and hit your inner organ like lung or even worse heart.

I have been dying so much while wearing full HP Press vests... Also, on the subject of arms, I have died at close range from someone shooting my blacked out arm, the damage was distributed, and the bullet overpenetration into my full HP thorax killing me in one shot (LPS GZH - 81 dmg). I was wearing a press vest, so this was likely a no armor situation.

I died the other day while where the Osprey rig to 366 fmj in one shot to the left armpit hitbox😂

Same problem as with a press vest is hjelm is missing nape zone and ronin is missing face zone.

I love the system but I wish they made it so you can see the coverage of plates on the vests Model while modding it

So what armor should we use?

Found a lvl 6 plate a few days ago that fit in the press rig and went to put it in, but it only fit in the back so I decided not to run it for now. A blessing in disguise I suppose.

I did a lot of the background research for the armor hitzone system shown in the video, if I were to draw out the very most important thing to know, it's that the visual models are irrelevant, only look at the "armor areas" just like you would for helmets. Think the whole "ears" situation on helmets. And generally for maximum protection go with armor that have at least these armor areas covered: "Thorax", "Throat", "Neck", "FR. PLATE", "L/R Shoulder".

I cant help but notice the shift on the vss.

Could you test arm pen more cause im 99.9% sure that any bullet can pen a arm if its blacked out no matter the pen and if the bullet blacks out the arm in one shot it will also pen the arm and deal full damage to your chest

Try to hit the 6B13 with PS12B on the front plate at zero distance, then do the same thing with trooper (both with default level 4 plates). This will change your mind.

nope, default plate of 6B13 can stop PS12B 15/15 times as we tested. While it can one shot trooper with level 4 SAPI plates almost everysingle time.@@davidebonanni9266

The NFM Hjelm helmet is bugged in the same way, missing the NAPE armor zone. I already reported the bug a few days ago, please also do so it doesn't go unnoticed. However I must disagree with some of your points regarding the usability of different vests. Personally I think that the MMAC-style rigs with no general "thorax" protection are quite viable due to their light weight, integrated pockets, low price and easy accessibility. I run these all the time and have no complaints so far, except for CQC, where armors with more coverage are now necessary.

For sure they are viable, but if you're looking for protection they actually offer the lowest overall armor coverage.

I think I’ve only died to thorax 4-6 times this wipe. 2 shoulders but every single death has been a headshot other than that

The level 5 SAPI side plates from PK3 saved me from an SVT man who mag dumped me with LPS. I'm going to run them forever now.

for the zhuk press the right plate is also not showing up

What about the armors with only built in armor at class 4 armor? There everywhere where the armor its class 4 (throat still class 2 usually) Is that maybe more valuable as you cant get lucky onetapped by a scav with lead slugs as often

EDIT: I'm dumb and thought the class 4 armored rigs also used plate hitbox, but it seems they give complete coverage of the listed areas. Probably makes things like the Uley pretty handy.

I've had multiple instances this wipe where i get killed in unbelievable ways. One tapped in armpit with a grach pst gzh bullet when i was wearing t4 armor. 2 tapped through level 5 armor with m856 in thorax. Something's not working :D

So the bsg straight up lied when they wrote that armor hit zones are identical to visual coverage of the armors

there is a bug, that when you enter to the new vehiculee in streets, the scarvs snipers shoot you and you armor get the damage, but the HP of the pmc not, anyone whit the same problem?

I KNEW that something was wrong with my Press armor. Scavs would one shot me in "Chest" with full front plates. Time to dump it all on Flea

welp.. looks like I'll stop using the press vest lol, I've used it a bunch since it's so light. armour seems so much less useful now anyway though, sucks that the MMAC barter is gone from L2 ragman :/

The thorax hitbox needs to be reworked. It’s silly that a grazing rib shot damages the same health pool as your heart and spine. Furthermore the double-protection of hard plates and soft armor makes for very unpredictable results and I think causes the armor to over perform. This is a weird and buggy state where lvl 4 armor might stop a ton of very high tier bullets, or you might die in one shot because of weird hitboxes. Not a fan of making everyone’s 1-shot area bigger with the neck zone, either.

this was my immediate thought when talks of the armor hitbox change came up. it makes absolutely no sense to me to get this autistically detailed with the hitboxes of armor but not your character's actual damage zones. its the equivalent of a game like war thunder having hyper complex armor simulation only to make it where any round that pens immediately ammo racks you no matter where it lands.

If you use shotguns with express buckshot on average gunfight it doesn't matter what other side is wearing, they will hit thorax no matter what and go through the armor somehow

In my opinion it doesn't make sense that they reworked the armor system without reworking the health system. Armor plates are made to protect vital organs, because of the simplistic health system that we still have in Tarkov, the whole thorax acts like a vital organ. This used to be completely fine when we had a more simplistic armor system too and it covered the whole thorax, but now that it doesn't, it doesn't make sense to have bullets that completely miss any vital parts of the body still do full thorax damage. What I think they should do is add a new smaller hitbox in the center of the thorax to simulate the vital organs and have this be the part that gets covered by the plates but be the part that would need to get hit in order to do full thorax damage. Getting hit anywhere outside of this area should result in damage probably similar to arm or leg shots.

I mean the whole thorax is a vital organ when it comes to disrupting your ability to fight. Pentation to the thoracic cavity, especially by rifle rounds, make it very hard to breathe very quickly, even if major arteries or the heart are missed (and the lungs aren't really gonna be missed). Tarkov doesn't have incapacitation yet, so receiving an injury that would take you out of the fight, even if it's not something that would definitely kill you IRL, is effectively killing you. Tension pneumo is a bitch.

@@mikedebakker5820 But the video game does need to realistically model you getting shot in the chest and being very seriously injured but not killed? Like say there's a .7x multiplier as a damage reduction to non vitals, it might increase time to kill by one round for the lower damage high pen ammos but won't be significant for flesh damage ammo that might do a full thorax worth of health. IMO, it would be extremely marginal on whether it would change how the game actually plays.

But now it feels completely unballanced because we still have the same health system. And there is a significant difference in time to kill between getting shot in the thorax or getting shot in the legs, so yeah I think this change would be significant. And even still, high flesh damage ammo still being effective is exactly how it should be right?

@@mikedebakker5820 Personally I really like the new armor system and have been absolutely slaughtering people because they can't just eat shots like it means nothing to them. AP vs damage metas feel very good to me right now, and I find most fights don't end in like two shots now. We'll see as we get further into the wipe.

The biggest issue with this new system that im seeing, is that the ballistics calculations are no longer predictable. Previously, if you shoot someone wearing a 6B13 with SNB, you would see the exact same result every single time so long as armor durability was consistent between tests. Now, you have 3+ different outcomes to the same exact test. That not only makes it virtually impossible to know if what happened in a test is CORRECT, but it also leaves a tremendous amount of uncertainty in the player on whether or not the way the player died was fair or not.

i fought 2 naked pmcs on factory. they were both doing the pistol kills mission. i had decentish ammo(545 T i think) but they were both bullet sponges? i killed the first and died to his friend. Afterwards, it said i did 250 damage, and 300 was absorbed… they were both totally naked, just running a pistol. Is this meant to happen? i only have a couple hundred hours over about 5 wipes so i’m not completely sure.

it's actually insane how nerfed most of the very good armored rigs became because of the complete lack of any armor beyond the plates. Aiming for the upper left/right corners of the thorax seems to be a very good method of snagging kills not just against these rigs but pretty much every armor.

Looks like this wipe we need face shields and neck protection the most imo

Very informative video and helped me a lot but even as a 7 years EFT veteran I am having trouble figuring out the different plate materials, this is probably the 5th video I am commenting on because there is no information about it, what material for the plates is the "best" or the most recommended?
