I wish they would keep the more realistic armour system by keeping the plates the right size, but expand the health system to be more sophisticated. The issue before is when you're shot in the armpit from the front, you die immediately which is kinda silly. When in reality they should add vital hit boxes that sit deeper inside the thorax area, so arm pit hit won't kill from the front, but it might from the side because the bullet would go in to hit the heart / spine hitboxes.

The more sophisticated health system doesn't solve the issues that the community had with the armor system. It actually makes them worse. People didn't like getting killed while wearing armor, that's it. You wouldn't die immediately from the armpit shot IRL, the same way you wouldn't die immediately from 10 shots to your leg. But you will be immobilized, probably go unconscious. I.e. dead gameplay-wise, since there is no unconscious state in Tarkov yet.

@@ForOne814 It could fix it if a vitals hitbox was small enough to be covered effectively by the armor in game. I think this reversion of the armor system is a step backwards and turns the game back into a stupidy arcadey shooter where if you have maxed out gear you can just tank just about anything and make retarded plays if you're against early/mid tier players; AKA, casuals. I understand if BSG doesn't care about a casual playerbase at this point and can accept the game simply won't be for me, but they'll be losing ALOT of players if they continue to tailor the game to streamers and hardcore players.

@@TheBrick534 but some plates don't actually cover all of the lungs area, also none cover the lower spine. The health system worked as intended, the armor worked as intended, the community just didn't like it. I'm a hardcore player, I liked the new armor.

Damn. Looks like we're right back to where we started before that change. These guys are indecisive about what they want to do and refuse to change the parts that would make it work, like adding organs or that medical rework they SAID they were going to do.

I'd partly blame the community for this one, the armor system before was good and quite unique but with the way EFT's health system works it just ended up in random 1 shot kills which you could argue incentivized slower play and better positioning due to the fact that your armor and armor class wasn't immediately a on and off switch between you dying or surviving gunfights. I don't mind the gaps in the armor but BSG really have to take a page out of GZW's book with its health system, plate carriers are the norm and do their job closely mimicking real life. Then again, its also easy to forget that no one plays this game like a tactical shooter anymore... go figure.

@@postaldude24 GWZ's system produces terrible results both in terms of realism and gameplay. BSG absolutely should look at it, to see what they shouldn't do. Because it doesn't actually attempt to simulate the terminal ballistics, because good luck simulating that on the current hardware in real time. Plate carriers are the norm in the Western militaries, because the West fights against people that don't even have artillery, they can afford to only cover the vitals with a plate and nothing else, because even if you get hit around the plate you will have the chance to be evacuated and receive proper medical treatment before it's too late. For the same reason plate carriers are used for police use cases globally. But if you look at the war in Ukraine, people only use plate carriers because they have nothing better, and it's not great. Even just getting hit by a VOG turns from an event you can just walk away from (with several broken fingers and some shrapnel in the ass) to a stomach full of shrapnel.

the thor crv is still gonna be imo the best besides the cpc. Since it has both the plate AND the thorax collider.

8:17 - 'Stomach armour hitbox' - just a thought - that PMC seems to be stood very upright (bordering on leaning backwards if we look at the angle of the thighs/knees) in comparison to a PMC that is running or aiming, who would be leaning more forwards, almost hunched over and thus lowering that hitbox. I'd wager this 'lifting' means it almost covers the stomach area when we're running or gunning - which is probably more relevant to being stood bolt upright.

I’m the same, but SPT for a year has saved me from being looted for another $50 for BSG to not un-F the live game issues by dodging them, just giving PVE mode for more $$? Nah bro. Nikita probably sees now How many people are camping PVE servers…. SPT was right all along. For free. And became So popular over the Uninstall edition that our website is still smashed. Brilliant video, thanks Giga! I'm sort of apathetic regarding the whole system and ideas of "fixing" armor and health: Tarkov seems to me such a brutal game and to an extent a "jank" game to experience, you're never going to reach a point where when you go down you'll always think "Ah, yes, I understand how I lost that, makes sense fair and square." And I feel like even though justified in technical content, a lot of criticism of the system stems from frustration of feeling "cheated" out of "buffs" you mentally gave yourself to protect your PMC. We'll have to see though, maybe the meta will become more fun with this change, maybe taking down Chads will become a one in a million like it used to. My objective will still be to rat away in a bush, and not get shot in the first place. We're the rats, we're the rats....

I would like a little more open area when shooting directly at the sides with some of the armors, but enjoyable change

please do more tests with things like Gen4 Assault. I don't really wanna run armored rigs if I can't buy them straight from traders, and I wanna see if the new extended armpit plate is guarded by the soft armor as well. Otherwise I'm sellin my entire stash of armor and buying CPC Mod.1's

Yep. An organ hit box deep inside for the insta kill when you’re heart shot, that Most thorax shots will miss…

Great overview. Have you made a guide to the plates themselves? It’s a bit of a jungle for me understanding the differences between them beyond class, and that ceramic doesn’t repair well.

Yes but more about accessing the - performance wise it's all about class, and now a bit about durability. Dura didn't matter before because they were so small they hardly got damaged - now we might pay more attention to the durability stats but I imagine that people in the endgame will continue to use class 6 barters for the front plate, and class 5 gac plate as the back, or backup in case they run out of 6 - because gacs can be crafted

No the armor was the issue, the medical system worked fine as it was, the mistake was trying to force in an overly realistic armor system when the game wasn't that level of realistic in the first place.

@@antonellostasi oh hush. We used to have a chance with basic good ammo and had to work to the real god tier stuff, now we start with even worse and even more work to get it all back. They're gonna have to rework where were get and unlock ammo again to make this work, or its gonna be a bitch and a half. If good armor is easy to get, good ammo should be a bit easier. If its hard to get good armor, good ammo should be as well. its how BSG has always done bullet to armor balance

If I manage to run a few SCAV runs on reserve every day, after a week I'll have enough good 545 ammo to be enough to get me started. and normally I take my time because there's a lot of PP, BP and BS (in that order) lying around.

@@Tman2bard BSG never did any kind of bullet/armor balance, they kept removing good ammo only from flea and traders to increase ttk and give a chance to randoms to play somehow at an even level against who grinds. Armors never been so useless as this wipe, where the 6B3 and 6B5 were meta because they didn't have plates. The only difficult ammo to unlock is M80, the rest is just progression through wipe, rolling back to something similar to the old armor system is a huge win since the plate system doesn't go well at all with their current HP system, and they're too lazy to rethink their health system to make plates work well with it

Correct me if I’m wrong, you are running the CPC carrier. Wouldn’t you still be susceptible to that little spot of thorax between the top of the armor and the neck or is that also protected with the higher plate hit box?

For balancing reasons I'd rather have a more detailed player hitboxes/ballistics. A grazing shot shouldnt instakill you unless it did a massive amount of damage or fragmented and hit a vital area, but I also dislike that the armor is sacrificed for balance instead of "just" adjusting what is a vital area, armor feels significantly weaker than it used to now that individual plates have health and the size changes make it stick out a decent bit from the player hitboxes more from certain angles. I'd much rather take grazing shots that give me massive debuffs to my torso but I can heal or mitigate through meds, than have a grazing shot destroy the armor that protects the entirety of my chest. This isn't realistic but I think it is more so than the system they have now and is more forgiving if not more intricate.

Consider that it never happens in Tarkov, and does no damage, and every hit that does damage is not a grazing shot. Vitals go directly against what the players wanted from the armor system. It adds more oneshots, doesn't remove them.

I think it's more about business strategy than anything else. Notice how they made the plates hitboxes bigger but "forgot" about all the nerfs to bullets that came with the launch of update 0.14. Notice how Arena conveniently offers a series of high level gear like level 6 plates and really good armor piercing ammunitions like m995 or SSA AP, all which are banned from the flea market or with limited availability if you play Tarkov exclusively. Notice how BSG has mentioned in previous patch notes that premium editions of Arena will be available in the future, which will very likely contain things like fast progression or increased quantity of rewards for Arena daily quests which will reward players with those high level items. They are literally balancing Tarkov, the main game mode, around some stupid DLC filled to the brim with pay-to-win features because they are too greedy and prideful to take the L about their failed DLC.

Is using a canted sight still effective at blocking some damage to the thorax?

I understand that AACPC soft armor protects the same area as armor plate. However, when dealing with high penetration rounds (such as the M855A1), is there a difference with the THOR? The soft armor absorbs what the plate could not prevent, but does the TOHR, which cannot guard the upper side, make a difference in the number of definite shots to a kill?

I showed some stats at the end, the difference is that side on the thor just has class 5 on its own under the arm. M855A1's pen gets reduced on its way through by the plate which makes it low enough to then be defended against by the soft - thats the difference

Honestly they should have tried making the armpit use the arm HP pool first.

Incredible how long it took them for this change. I said this back when I saw the first clips of them showcasing it. mindboggling

I haven't played for a while.... I vaguely remember this plate being available in a worse armor that you do a barter for, and then take the plates out and do the craft... Maybe that is wrong or outdated...

Chicken and egg problem - guaranteed way is ragman 4. Other ways are finding a rig that have them by default, say in a stash (hexatac, tactec, aacpc) or getting one out of the moonshine scav case. Alternatively kill a PMC with one on - most max trader players use them, if they aren't running something more basic like a korund

Yes. Armors without Neck coverage will still get shut down quickly in fights. Even if it tops out at class 3 it still does the job of keeping you from getting killed instantly by scavs and trash ammo rats.

This was my favorite armor, used to be 55K easy with plates inside half the time Now it's 200K without plates :(

Just change the player hitboxes so you dont die to nonlethal shots to the outer chest with the old armor system, maybe add multipliers that get exponentially worse the further from vitals you get?

So we went from an accurate visual representation of the armor back to forcefields...

you wont belive the amount of posts on reddid that went like:" but a bullet just clipping your shoulder wouldn't insta kill you." here look at that, 11:16 a round trough the shoulder without even doing damage. has been in the game like that for ages. Now what ?! the hitbox already is moddeled in a way that is small than the view moddel and represents hits to joints that are kinda important to be abled to keep fighting back. "but but but you would survive" Yeah, and what fun would it be in tarkov to survive but be unabled to hold a gun up ?! If you are hit in a way that makes you unabled to fight back = thats a death sentence in tarkov

the big pipe rig also is REAAALLLY strong now because it has side plates and is incredibly fucking light

Can someone please explain why the ana m2 isn't as good as the cpc? Sure it has less container space, but it has level 3 soft armor and includes stomach, lower back, and upper back protection

It's also decent. But the soft on the m2 isn't connected to the plate hitbox - this means you get better stomach protection, but the soft doesn't follow the plate around the sides of the thorax like it does on the aacpc. Aacpc has plate+soft on the sides of the thorax now, m2 only has plate. Sometimes that can matter

Honestly they should decrease the hitboxes now to a middle ground between this current version and the last. Make the armor protect more, but still have seams. This in its current state is devolution at its worst.

but don't bullets need to go through plates + soft armor on "standart" armor and if you're using the 3rd type it only need to go through the plate

We need to get the old system back and a new health rework which would make t more realistic and plates work

couldnt they have just added armpit/ shoulder area to the arm hitbox or give it its own/ not make it do as much damage to thorax as its not hitting vitals? i really liked the armour it felt like it evened the playing field and let the player with the better positiioning ambush people to the side

11 out of the 50 times i killed Killa, i ONLY damaged his back plate while mag dumping him TO THE CHEST with ammo that DOES NOT PEN his armor. something that should not be even possible but hey, this is tarkov.

It comes with the best level 5 plates as standard, you can craft tactec or aacpc in hideout, you can also barter hexatac hpc to get them also.

What about the ANA M2? I think it's pretty guuuud with lvl 6 plates in it now =0

All the armors are good now basically with the right plates, for the m2 you get a bit of extra stomach at the expense of no soft armor in the thorax side hitboxes. It's a standard armor so the soft corresponds to PMC hitboxes rather than plates

what about the CQC ospreys and the Gen4 series?

Is the CQC Osprey MK4A plate carrier (Protection, MTP) not better than this one? Gets neck protection too.

Why exactly is the aacpc better than the thor crv according to you? Is it because the soft armor that follows the plates around an armored rig protects your thorax better than the soft armor of an armored vest?

Correct. The soft armor on the thor that protects the chest is still "Thorax" and "Back" like it used to be, missing the sides of the upper most hitbox area. The aacpc now also has soft covering the previously uncovered "Thorax - side" aka the armpit, as it sits directly under the front plate using whatever configuration it is given. So you're more protected from the side as you have 5+3 vs just 5 on its own with the thor

I’m betting AI will Still get kills thru that tiny sliver between plates. Instead of shooting Center Mass of the visible body parts, as we are trained both in and out of the military, They have an aimbot which seeks out the least protected spot and shoots right there. It’s So unrealistic and it’s a kind of cheat code. I’ve been gut shot and leg shot when peeking from behind solid cover, too, so the game cheats to get you killed. It’s one of the things we Hate about Tarkov!

Does this mean that the Osprey is also META as well??? 😮

Soft doesn't cover the side thorax. It's good, sure. But if you want maximum thorax protection, you need one where the soft armor DOESN'T cover the 'thorax' in the tooltip. Highly unintuitive, but it's the result of the changes

Aacpc now protects you more from the side on the direct thorax hitbox, so one to think about

This is such a rough change for shotguns and SMGs. I already felt like 9mm was underwhelming Now if you don't use M80/M62 from max level traders, killing anyone without a headshot is going to be impossible. You can't even do leg meta, because they nerfed the damage multipliers so much.

Even with M80 it takes like 4 shots to the thorax before you even have a chance to kill to a class 5 plate.

I literally played with aacpc yesterday and somehow didn't die to 5 people through raid, i was thinkink i just got lucky

personally i don't like the new changes now ammo / armor balance at wipe will be fucked

Surely when the wipe hits they'll have redone all the traders so that we can have viable armor.

So what makes it better than Osprey Protection rig? Doesn’t that have all the same soft armor?

Osprey doesn't have soft under the armpit area protecting the thorax. Both have front plate there though

So basically it’s like the old armour system? But with different plates?

No, armor is even stronger now as it's not only the plates (like it was 'plates' in the "old" old system) but plates with full coverage AND the soft armor, so they are back to original forcefield armor, but even stronger due to the added layer of soft armor (for most armors/armored rigs anyway)

I had people eat 12 m80s and not die before this change... If U can't manage to find their head ttk just went up massively..

Guess it’s back to how it was pre patch 14. Joke of a game
