    I mean he did have a serious ACL injury. It’s not just a slump, he’s hit a wall. I think we just have to accept the fact that he’s not the player he used to be because of injuries.

  • @KF51_

    The issue is, Klay hasn’t accepted that. He still has to prove he’s just as good as Steph, him and Draymond are very insecure about their success so they have to show they are just as good as Curry, without them being on that level, and it’s hurting the team

    Keep in mind that he bounced back from an injury that most players retire because of. The very fact that Klay's is amazing in itself. Plus, he's starting to come out of the shooting slump he was in anyway, so as long as he iputs in enough effort to contribute to winning games, it won't really matter much in the end. The teaam's been through rough patches like this many times before, so the team will bounce back, we just need to be patient.

    And so what? So did KD… Did everyone magically forget that Klay came back from injury and helped the Warriors win their 4th title, or was he “just not the same player he used to be” then? And then all last season, he lead the league in 3 PT made? Yeah… Klay isn’t as young as he used to be, and sure, after injuries, he can’t defend like he used to, but neither can older players that didn’t have injuries… They all fall off a little as they age… so why pick on Klay? He can still shoot, and he’ll get out of his slump, because really, that’s all it is. All the Klay slander needs to stop.

    The worst thing about the media is that as soon as Klay starts hitting shots like he used to, they will call it Klay Area and give him praise. For them it’s the impact over substance of what is said (essentially traditional media’s version of click bait). Great video as always!

    Some of us aren’t wishy washy as fans, though. He hasn’t been a consistent offensive player since he returned from both of his injuries a couple years ago. He’s only getting older, he is done as a starter and is barely a roll player on a true contender these days. He may have a good game here or there, but will follow it up with a complete clunker that often times costs the warriors in close games. He can’t defend anybody, at all, anymore. So yeah it’s pretty cut and dry. We love him for what he did but this gotta be his last season as a warrior otherwise we’re essentially acquiescing to mediocrity to round out curry’s final few “elite” years. Sad, but proven to be truer and truer every time he steps on the floor.

This feels like the NBA saw how good the Warriors were starting, decided it would be too easy for them and have tried to create a narrative of a more balanced NBA when in reality, it's still as top heavy as it's ever been. Milwauke, Denver, Boston, Philly, Pheonix and Golden State will still be the top 3 from their conferences come playoff time. • @RyanLee-or4cj
    @RyanLee-or4cj6 ай бұрын

    I think Klay will break out of his shooting slump, (he's actually improved his numbers back to mostly acceptable levels of 40% from the field and 37% from 3) but his defense is long gone. He's averaging 0.4 steals and 0.5 blocks per game with a DBPM of -1.7 and 0.3 DWS. He is also in the bottom quarter of players in terms of defensive rating and it's not much of a stretch to say he's in the bottom quarter in terms of overall defense too, all of this results in him having a -2.5 BPM and -0.1 VORP. Which means that this season, Klay has been a negative for the Warriors. I'm not saying the Warriors should trade Klay, numbers don't mean everything and I fully believe he will bounce back from his slow offensive start and be a key leader with experience in the playoffs. But his defense is gone and everyone needs to accept that.

  • @fried_riceee

    @fried_riceee

    6 ай бұрын

    Defense is very conditional now, matchup-based. He can definitely guard same-size guys who are a bit slower. Also, I've noticed in the playoffs, Klay struggles to guard in earlier games but as the games go deeper he eventually adjusts and adapts to their habits (learns to swap and steal the ball more often). His defense is trash if it's full court, he has to be set, fast break is terrible. Again, not the worst defender, it's just very conditional now which doesn't really work in the GS system that relies on good defenders to hide Curry. Offense has to be good to offset the defense, only way. He needs to find a way to consistently shoot near 40% from 3's on catch and shoots. No more dribble bullshit.

    Klay did contribute with that 2022 championship. I think its more of a mental game for him rn rather than physical. Steph worked on his movement to better avoid injuries and had that 2021 run that had him pressured to carry the team in the play in tournament. Klay came back with steph still playing like an all star. I think the frustration from the jordan poole era, playing with less post dominant wings, and failure to recognize that teams are just getting better affected his stoic demeanor in recent games.

    You only have to watch Warriors games to see how washed Klay is compared to prime 2019 Klay. His shot selection is just terrible he takes super difficult shots all the time and frequently fails to make obvious reads to pass the ball to team mates for wide open shots. Defensively he's a statue much of the time, next to no lateral movement and very little awareness of team defensive concepts. He wanders around, loses his man, watches the ball. This regression is somewhat understandable given the injuries but neither he nor the team seems willing to accept that his role should have already reduced and changed. He very bluntly cannot be the number 2 option on this team anymore it's blindingly obvious. When he plays too many minutes his legs are gone and the lift he relies upon for his shot goes and so what value he still has as one of the best spot up shooters in the league goes away. Ultimately the biggest damage the injuries seems to have done to him is psychological, he's never been the same guy since then mentally he's so set on proving everyone wrong that he's become toxic and selfish.

    Genuinely believe it is a transitional period as rotations with cp3 are different from what they used to be a year ago. Also, the fact that multiple guys are not scoring well only makes it worse as you can see by Klays, Wiggs and Cp3s shot selection that they are sometimes forcing things that aren't there. Only excuse in my head would be is that they just really want for to be able to help the team. Good news is that it's just a matter of time till they start landing shots and then subsequently the shot selections will improve as they won't need to force random shit. 😅 they not only won't trade Klay. They will extend cp3 and go for 3peat.

    As long as Joe Lacob is the owner, Kerr as the coach and Steph and Dray gets the nod, Klay will be a Dub till his career is over! This guy will have a statue with Steph and Dray at the Chase Center one day! Where were the Warriors when Klay got injured for two years? Not in the playoffs and one wild card, came back 2022 and won a championship. That’s the importance of Klay, the spacing he gives Steph, because defenders still can’t leave Klay open and will always respect his shooting. Do you guys think the Dubs and Steph would have won 4 rings without Klay? All teams would have box and 1 defense on Steph every game. He may not be the same defender as he used to be, but shooters like Klay would last in the league for years. Klay holds the record of most points in a quarter with 37 points, 60 points in 11 dribbles, 14 treys in a game even Steph haven’t broke that record and last year he led the league with 301 treys! Give this guy a break. He will be fine. This guy is a future hall of famer!

    The media are overblowing it but they're right to say it isn't just a slump. I'm a Warriors fan and I actually watch most of the games and the issue is that he hasn't been shooting well or playing the same level of defence but he's still taking shots as if he's in his prime and he has shot us out of a couple games. There's also the context that he's up for extension. The trade Klay narratives are more about the fact that the negotiations aren't going well and it looks like he's going to want another max

    6:53 - Thinking critically this was a bad take that lacks context. Klay is apart of a three man cell and is a main piece of it but not "the main guy." He also is in the later half of his career. He's still an amazing player but I just personally think it's a lazy take. His defense shouldn't be that low. Lamelo, Ben Simmons, and Haliburton are literally their teams. Without them those teams would literally be non-existent. Ben Simmons is just not a player you ever want to use to justify any argument. Devin Booker is not a veteran in the later half of his prime. His defense will get better. Additionally all of these players have a more critical offensive role. All that to say Klay > Tobias Harris any day of the week

    I think the way they are setting their defense schemes is a systematic failure. Even though cp unlocks Steph on offense even more, these lines ups makes Steph and klay guarding 2s and 3s, and it tires them on offense and make them frustrated on defense, mostly klay, but we can see steph limping aswell. I think this is the biggest issue rn with them and klay, he’s actually been efficient when shooting good looks, but it’s the bad ones and the frustration on defense that makes him show so lack of energy that everyone on the court and at home feels watching and it’s killing the team.
