How the movie Tangled hurt the reptile hobby

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

The movie Tangled is a great movie featuring a cute chameleon named Pascal. Unfortunately, there’s a lot of things about the movie that were incorrect and as a result have been very harmful for the chameleon community. Just like with any pet, it’s important to do the correct research and make sure that you have realistic expectations when it comes to owning the animal.

I've seen so many people with chameleons named pascal, especially on reddit and tiktok, and they all often have a lot of husbandry issues or lack of knowledge. It can be a little frustrating to see people impulse buy chameleons for their kids or themselves with unrealistic expectations that end up hurting the animal. Please don't be that person.

i love all reptiles especially chameleons and do research into their care out of interest of owning one one day but i just don’t currently have the funds for that but i’ve always thought of naming one pascal. it sucks that so many people are uneducated and impulsively purchase animals without knowing the proper care needed for them or how the animal acts/looks

Thanks for making this video this is my sister’s favorite movie and I really love pascal and use to have that same plushie that you have in your video and I just love chameleons there my favorite type of lizard and my all time favorite Reptile in general I’m glad you made this video since I’m not the only one that though the chameleon in the movie is not accurate compared to real life one especially the color changeing that pascal does which is a myth that is still believed by some people

I saw the most horrible thing! a little girl at PetSmart said to her mom, "Mommy I want that one its the lizard from the Disney movie!" and the mom said, "slow down we only have a 170 budget." meanwhile mi i the reptile section and the little girl goes into the FISH ISLE And get a fish tank and said this one! the mom not knowing anything, said " your choice!" I left becuase I dont want to look like a creep hahah but I hope that chameleon is okay!

I have a Veiled Chameleon at home named Max I do handle him sometimes, but how do I know if I'm handling him too much? Also how do I know if he's eating during the day because I can't really tell. Max is is juvenile and is very friendly as well. His cage is a little empty right now but we just got him and plan on finding plants for him today. Thank you so much for all your vids! They have helped so much with finding the best stuff for Max.

totally agree with you on this! the amount of people who have asked me if my cham is named pascal or "what kind of lizard/iguana is he?" i get it, most people are ignorant of the range of reptiles and their names but goodness. or "oh why isn't it changing colors to match your shirt???" *eye roll** and the amount of people on reddit or other social media have such lack of knowledge it's alarming. however! i do love that they had pascal as a pet in the movie because no one ever spotlights chams and how beautiful and cute they are! i do wish they had portrayed pascal more correctly....but i just don't think people have that attention span or really care about the portrayal being correct as long as he's "cute"

Lol. I get that "is that an iguana/baby iguana/beardie" all the time. Once had someone ask how i got those lizards so tame and it took a bit of talking before i realized she thoughtit was one of those zippy European garden lizards that are invasive her. Like wtf, they look nothing alike. Not to mention ones a speed demon the otheris decisively...not. Anytime i hear the "why isnt he charging colour to match your shirt" comment i whip out my phone to show the picture of him "hiding" to avoid his medication.... yeah neon green lizard with his face in a dark green plant and the rest of his body sticking out? Not exactly camouflaged there buddy. The name thing. I named one of my panthers Leonardo (di vinchi) because everyone thinks he looks painted and if hes in a particularly happy/relaxed mood theres a smiley face on the side of his neck. Hey, nobody ever accused me of being a creative namer. But its a step up from Pascal. Ive got an person's rescue named mad-eye (moody) because a, hes a little shit. B, hes missing a paw due to injury and his one eye doesnt work very well also due to injury from previous owners. He gets by quite well suprisingly but nobody wanted to adopt him because hes not nice to look at and hes a mean grumpy shit. So I did. Got a a pair of panthers who have figured out how to unlock the mesh enclosures (wonder who they learned THAT trick from, Leonardo?!) Aptly named Michief and Mayham because thats what they like to cause. Have a ancient Meller's named Bob...i cant remember why he was named that originally. But now it stands for big ornery bastard, or B.O.B for short since hes become an ass in his old age. I have a leutistic (were some or most of the pigment is missing) Nosey Be named Moonshine because of the whole 'blind drunk' and not being able to see his non existant colours. He does have some blue striping that starts on his back and gets about a half inch down, and just around his eyes/eye ball, is a dark blue panda ring. But yeah, the rest of him is totally white and this sorta just a hair shade darker then pure white (where its so light it looks like an optical illusion and doesnt seem to be actually there) where the striping would normally be. Sometimes that grey-white striping turns conpletely white when he tries to turn colours but its only that little bit of blue that gives an indicator. Its actually a really cool effect and im hoping to breed him with a female from my breeder just to see what will happen since were both curious. I didnt even know leutistism was possible in chameleons. It may just be the blue pigment effected and since Nosey Bes are blue...whereas a normal blue bar would have a lack of pigment wherever blue would appear but other colours would be left uneffected perhaps? I dunno how that would work given their mood ring properties.

You can always tell how old someone is by which chameleon they reference. Tangled? Magic School Bus? I wish anytime an animal was featured in a movie there was a big warning to do your research and that a ton of time goes into caring for them (for animated) maybe a hint at the bare basic costs just to get setup (around 1000$ for a panther) would cut the impulse buys down. And a warning that this is a trained animal specifically to showcase these actions/behaviour for instances where a real live animal is used. And that its not natural behavior for the animal. I find a lot of real life animals in movies display very specifically trained behaviour put its portrayed as being completely natural. This is especially dangerous in large animals like horses which lead to a dangerous assumption of just how dangerous some of these animals can potentially be. Hell, ive had people tell me i need to let their kid pet my monitor. Like, yeah he's normally a chill dude but if he snaps you wont get a little bite you'll be getting surgery and monitors don't. let. go...as i found out the hard way once. Which is why i dont let people pet him because i dont want the liability issues. Everytime there is any movie featuring an animal theres a huge spike in people running off to get one because they think it would be cool to have what they see on screen.
