I love the era but hex maps tend to be associated with mechanics driven games and not historical ones (but some exceptions exist). I wishlisted it since what I saw (apart from the map style) looked good but I hope there is a more detailed examination.

Yeah. Slaaneshi cults mostly show up as sex/drugs/rock&roll-crazed hedonistic party animals, but pretty much any competitive field can fall prey to the Dark Prince's whispered promises. More generally, that's kind of why the Ruinous Powers are so insidious: they take perfectly natural and even noble ideals, and drive you to pursue them to the point that they become an addiction, the kind that starts affecting your life. A soldier driven to protect his people no matter the cost, a doctor haunted by all the patients she lost despite doing everything right, a scholar who knows he's _this close_ to unlocking a world-changing discovery, an artist whose work gets high praise but she knows she missed perfection by the barest whisker - these are prime candidates for Khorne, Nurgle, Tzeentch, and Slaanesh, respectively.

Cain actually lectures his students on this. How that the main reason Chaos cults pop up can range from discontent civilians to drunken nobles at a party just messing about and these are the "lucky ones" because actually invoking the Ruinious Powers is quite difficult. The "unlucky ones" are the ones that actually get a response from the warp having a genuine interest in what they are doing.

With a video like this, I would like to see a Noir style game where you play as an Inquisitor of the Ordo Hereticus trying to find a Chaos Cult and ultimately destroy it in a climactic ending, be it full-scale battle between the Inquisition and Chaos Cult, or a duel between player and cult leader. Either way should make for a fantastic conclusion.

The Imperium would glass us for being subject to a deeply ingrained Slaaneshi and Tzeentch cult.

With how Rogue Trader proved to be a rather nice game. I would like to see how an Owlcat Dark Heresy CRPG would be: Instead of managing colonies in a single sector, you travel through the galaxy dealing with TIME SENSITIVE objectives all over the place. There should be red herrings, dead-ends, many investigative deductions as to uncover the many factions that assail the game's region. This way, should the game could have multiple mid-to-late game scenarios depending on what faction you successfully contained and those you failed to stop in time. And that not to mention the whole Puritan x Radical axis of your actions; Inquisitorial rivalries; Imperium incompetence; really really bad decisions that should make you feel bad for taking it despite how sweet it looks (ala Stellaris End of the Cycle). I could be cool!

there is a bit of lore development that was showed after this video was uploaded. In Imperium Nihilus the situation you describe here is put on its head. Instead of chaos having small enclaves in the Imperium it is the Imperium that nearly holds on as Chaos divides that half of the galaxy amongst itself. It is in the new Chaos Marine codex.

Very ironic. The heresy took place because of ignorance, but ignorance saves the Imperium from chaos cults, most of the times.

The defenses against Chaos are simple: -Be faithful towards The Emperor but ignorant of Chaos: requires almost no maintance. -Be faithful towards The Emperor, know about Chaos but have enough contempt towards it and mental discipline to resist all corruption: very difficult and 99% of the population lack the mental strength for it.

Primarchs were lied about and they took Imperial ideals to their logical conclusion. If anything, rebels represented Imperial truth more than Imperium did which at its time started to fall into ignorance at the highest levels, starting from Sigilite who admitted that ignorance is virtue.

This adage has two uses in 40k. Most of the population is indoctrinated to fanaticism to believe in the God-Emperor and his agents, like Inquisitors, Governors and Generals. This makes mobilization and productivity easier. Second use is the lack of education about the Warp and its agents, from Daemons to psykers and spells. This (probably) aids with avoiding the corruption of the population by daemonic whispers and other manifestations. The Tau demonstrate this ignorance of Warp all the time, yet still avoid the dangers of the Warp. Mostly. The Orks are also very ignorant, but also quite strong. Dumb means strength for Orks. For example, you have never seen a purple painted Ork, because they believe it makes them invisible.

Three Field crop rotation is heresy!

I was thinking about starting one on Tuesday. Either Tzeentchien or Undivided. Who's in? I've got beer!

Through all this i was day dreaming about Inquisitor Dredd, and him saying "bartering with aliens... Heresy, punishment, the Emperors mercy" *gun auto loads a painfully slow killing poison round called 'The Emperors Mercy'* *BANG*.

I think the funniest 40k we had was in Dark Heresy where we played cultists, that failed a ritual and forgot most of the things. DM had told me in person though that I am an inquisitorial acolyte, that was there to undermine the cult. The catch? He told the same thing in private to every other player. We, ugh... Had a bit of a memory loss after the ritual we've sabotaged, but remembered the important bit: I (and nobody else) are an agent of His Holy Inquisition. Hilarity insued.

reminded me of what I think was the first book of gaunt's ghosts and the sus statue discussion. explosion fragmenting a chaos statue and a guardsman taking a small, survivable chunk of silver (?) shrapnel before being turned inside out into a chaos beast

Another good video, Arch. I have a question: Do you ever plan on covering games like One Page Rules' "Age of Fantasy", and "Grimdark Future"? Or even perhaps the 9th Age? Those three games are pretty similar to Warhammer Fantasy and 40K, though there are some pretty noticeable differences.

I just had a kind of funny thought with all the apocalyptic weapons under his control including a ship that can literally destroy worlds why doesn’t abbadon start destroying the extremely limited amount of forge worlds the imperium has seeing as they’re one of the only things keeping the imperium running

Why Chaos is arch enemy of life? If they remove all sentient life, chaos gods will disappear too? After all plats or rocks have no emotion to feed off.

If you know what to look for discovering the cultists wouldnt be so hard since most imperial citizens arent even aware of the inquisitions existance they wouldnt know what to look for. An inquisitor needs only look for unecxplainable events and soothsayers. And since cultists seem to have a habit of drawing symbols on their foreheads well i rest my case.

EDIT: I am open to being proven wrong if you can provide some examples. My issue is this seems more like fancanon, and 40k memetic infor 13:40 i have to disagree completly. At least from all the 40k novels i have read. Ignorance of chaos does nothing but cause problems and damage. Im not saying you need to tell everyone everything. That would be stupid, but if people had at least a cursiory understanding of what chaos was and what it always becomes. You would get alot more people not only staying away from that shit, but also enforcing aginst those people before they even became a problem.
