How the Aeta People Forage in the Philippines (Pampanga)
What are the mysteries of the mountains of Pampanga? We met with the Aeta community in Floridablanca to get a glimpse of their lives. The Aetas are believed to some of the earliest inhabitants of the Philippines and were once a nomadic people.
Their tenacity and culture offers a glimpse into a way of life that’s deeply connected to the Earth. In this video, we are taking a backseat as we observe and learn from the everyday life of the Aeta indigenous community living along the picturesque Zambales mountain range.

This should also be included on main stream media! These people, the Aetas are and always have been a part of our country and should not be excluded from the rest of society. Their way of life and culture should be preserved by everyone.

Anong she has very little ang pinagsasabi mo mo eh lawak nga ng lupain nila dito Pampanga at dami niyang tanim na mga gulay at prutas.
When she said, "Nag aral ka man o hindi wag mong bastusin wag mong apakan ang kapwa mo Aeta," really hits home! For me, di lang sa kapwa Aeta na naapply, but it applies to all of us! With or without education, dapat same respect anf love ang pinapakita natin walang pinipili! I could listen to this woman all day! There is so much wisdom to learn from her! And I love that they are very content with what the Lord has provided for them! The generosity and the hospitality are just amazing! God bless you, po Nanay, and I pray that our Almighty God will bless you and your family abundantly ❤😊

This by far is one of my favorite episode. The original inhabitants who have been marginalized by colonialism and conventional society, and sadly looked down upon for their ancestry and way of life. This is a story worthy of greater telling, exploration and expansion especially in today’s world in need of greater respect for the environment. Kudos for doing this story.

The original people of the Philippines, and the Austronesian Filipinos look down on them mostly because of their way of life and because of their dark skin. There’s a stigma with Filipinos with dark skin.

Bilib talaga ako palagi sa FEATR team. Always giving voices for the unheard. Kudos! ❤❤❤
The “Nak” means a lot. That endearment we all want to hear. Nanay Susan is so generous! Bless you Inang ❤
I live in Pampanga and I'm always happy to see Aeta people selling their produce in San Fernando during the ber months. We call it "Tinipa na la reng Aeta" which means "The Aetas came down from the mountains". And most Kapampangans would support their little stalls and buy vegetables from them
@DarkR0ze

I hope they buy at FAIR prices and not cheap prices (in the Ube video here in Featr the Aeta lady said that their ube were not bought with FAIR prices).

Oh, I would love to buy from them.
Grew up always seeing aetas in the streets. Missed opportunity talaga para sa'kin yung di sila nakausap kasi I was given a wrong impression when I was a kid. I regret it now, but I'm glad na mas nakikita ko na sila ngayon sa'min na nagtitinda ng sarili nilang ani - without the middle man - and hindi nanghihingi ng pera or pagkain. Nung high school ako, they would usually visit the school and remind us na "Wag niyo kaming bibigyan pag nanghihingi, para hindi maging tamad yung mga kasama namin."
I love how Susan call the Featr Crew "Nak" or "Anak" which means my child. It is like the term of endearment. Also, they are willing to give even with the little of what they have. Blessed their hearts.
The land grabbing issue is very much true for other Aeta tribes. These people have been here are one of the first settlers of the country and do not abide by the contemporary norms of land ownership. Their best legal defence on paper is the Indigenous People's Rights Act where ancestral domains and ancestral lands are recognized as theirs... on paper. Politics and capitalism always finds a way to weasel in these lands for their gain. IPs are met with systemic hindrances (education and economics) so we as Filipinos have a moral obligation to give voice to these people. We need to demand a stronger implementation of the IPRA. Well-made video Featr. Kudos!
It was 2019 when we visited a couple of Aeta communities flattened by magnitude 6 earthquake near Porac. Even in crisis I was deeply touched by their calm, resilient, and friendly dispositions lining up for whatever we can give. Ito ang tunay na lahing Pilipino! Thank you Featr for giving us a glimpse of their way of living :-)

She's really wise. Hope she gets a bigger platform and leadership opportunities.
She is very articulate, and she speaks from the heart. The wisdom that she has is rooted from the simplicity of their lives. "Hindi mo naman kasi hawak ang buhay eh. Huwag kalimutan ang kultura."
Kung sino pa ang may simpleng buhay, sila pa yung mga mapagbigay at may mabuting puso mabuhay kayo mga kapatid na Aeta.

Hats off to Aeta's work ethic. They seem to be very independent. They are an inspiration. Thank you for featuring them.
They have a healthy way of cooking. It looked so simple and delicious. That's what I call REAL food (coming from a professional Western nutritionist). We don't need MSG or any other ingredients to make it palatable. It masks the real taste of the food. Over time it changes the taste buds giving the illusion that we need other ingredients. Aetas have clean unadulterated taste buds.👏👏👏
Her generosity, intelligence, love of heritage is so inspiring. Mabuhay po kayo! Nawa'y pagpalain pa at bugyan ng mahabang buhay! 🙏🏼
This is why I love FEATR, one of the best docu so far. Hope the government will help them, they deserve all the help and love.

very underrated channel. presenting stories of how other people live and also how they strive for daily basis. stories of culture & food.
very eye-awakening ng ganitong content. thank you for featuring our indigenous people!!
This kind of content should be broadcast. Kudos to the team featuring our very own natives in central luzon. Ang galing ni nanay Susan, very articulate. Aetas are very welcoming to outsiders, encountered them during my bird photography sorties around the Bataan and Subic area.
Our Indigenous brothers and sisters are very resourceful when it comes to finding sources of food, their way of living are amazing they are resilient hard workers, our government should extend more help specially in the field of education, healthcare and socio economic field. God Bless them may all their sacrifices be given acknowledgment by our government.
Best video so far FEATR 👏 Every time nauwi kami ng Zambales at pupunta sa palengke, mas bumibili kami sa mga Aeta na nagtitinda sa bangketa as support for them. Hopefully the local government preserve them and their culture.

In a way, these people are actually eating much healthier than the rest of the Austronesian middle class Filipinos whose diet consist of mostly prcessed food. I admire these native people's tenacity and self-sufficience. They must officially acknowledge by the government to protect their heritage.
The government should protect them and give them health center fertilizers for their farms and deep well. They are self sufficient. They should be given a budget allocation to improve their lives. Access road water and electricity are really needed.

If I were to nitpick, please do something about the white font baked into your video.
