Great review, Brian. A comment on the iDrive interface. Like any new tech, you get used to it after a few days and I find it very easy to use. My kids figured it out in about a minute. Lol

The screen is great and it’s best on CarPlay, but even after several weeks in these things, if I’m looking to change a system setting while I’m driving it takes far too long because it’s non-intuitive. I’ve been to BMW’s studio that develops these things and they have the talent to do it right. It’s one thing if you let your passengers mess with it while you’re driving, but this is a driver’s car after all and if I recall correctly the screen is angled toward the driver. It’s a small L for what is otherwise a fantastic car.

The 4 series in Gran Coupe form is absolutely the best looking BMW on the road. It is near perfect with a straight 6 under the hood.

I used to have the 435d GC, so the i4 was the natural choice for me. Way better looking and handling than a Tesla. I've had the edrive 40 for over a year now and still love it.

Another great review. I value your review as you do it from a drivers perspective. Good to know you like the electric i4 and that it hits all the buttons froma drivers perspective. On another note picked up our new x6 m60i on Friday. It is everything you said it was and more. It is a BEAST. Thanks again for doing the review on that. I will always value your opinion. Oh add more out takes. Lol

@BrianMakse We are loving it so far. Haven't driven much as we had a weekend of rain. The tech in it is enough to make your head spin. Still learning the new stuff. Will need to make an appointment with the genius. Maki g notes of what cannot figure out. Ride and handling is certainly improved especially with the 4 wheel steering. The Bowers and Wilkins is so worth it as I love my music. Way too much power for the daily driving, but hey I am greedy. Lol. It is so much more fun and better than the x6. 5.0 we traded. Which by the way served us well. We put over 100k on it and no issues. Only oil change and regular maintenance. Nothing broke on it. Thank you again. I look forward to your reviews no matter what vehicle it is

@@verynick Xdrive was on allocation at my dealer, he cut me a deal on it so that it was not much more than edrive. eDrive would have been a few months more wait. I test drove both E and X (along with the M50) and was a little disappointed in the edrive acceleration. However xdrive is fun!!! Just a little less fun than the M50. xdrive with 18" wheels has slightly more range than edrive. Finally I am in the north and will have to drive this frequently in bad weather conditions, so I appreciate the AWD.

I got a cancelled order for a '23 i4M50 from Toronto back in March 2023, after being on the waiting list for an allocation at my local (non GTA) dealer since January 2022. I would have considered the x40 if it was an option back then. Love the m50. 95% of the charging is at home or cottage. I charge every few days at 32amps (7kW). I will upgrade to the 9kW charging when I get a new panel at home. Due to an aversion to buying tires, I keep it in Comfort mode most of the time. Coming up to 12 months ownership with the car, and it's been great. Been to Pigeon Forge and Mont Tremblant with it and survived DCFCing for those trips. Wife got a EV in January 2024, so we are 2 EV empty nesters.

You made reference to the more powerful "xdrive 50." Might you be referencing the M50? I don't think that the i4 is available in an xdrive 50, though the M50 does have xdrive. I've been driving the edrive40 for two years and loving it! My xdrive 40 will arrive in Brunswick, GA on February 11.

I had an I4 M50, but BMW's hyped charging partner, Electrify America, is virtually non-existent in New Hampshire. There are 4 charging stations in the entire state. It's a really nice car, but if you can't get "gas" in the gas tank it's all worthless. Yeah, you can find 12kwh charger or maybe a 50Kwh charger, but either is like going to a conventional gas station and getting the gas delivered via a straw.

@@BrianMakse Yeah, perhaps you're right. I put a bit of faith into the "Ultimate Driving Machine" company. I had an extended test drive on a Tesla Model "S" and unfortunately was carrying the positive changing experience of TESLA NETWORK/NACS charging experience to BMW. I can't imagine why BMW has decided to use NACS when Tesla allows them to. VW American is not the network to be relied upon. But fear not. BMW is building its own charging network
