How Testosterone Level Affects Prostate Cancer Outcomes | Answering YouTube Comments #64 | PCRI

Medical Oncologist, Mark Scholz, MD, answers patients' questions from our KZread comments on whether testosterone levels prior to prostate cancer treatment can predict treatment outcomes, and other questions about hormone therapy.
0:09 Do testosterone levels indicate how well hormone therapy will work or the time until hormone therapy resistance?
2:51 What are the testosterone levels going to look like for someone on hormone therapy?
3:47 If someone adds a second-generation anti-androgen to standard hormone therapy, would their PSA be expected to fall even lower?
4:15 If the testosterone level is really low, is the anti-cancer effect enhanced?
4:51 Do drugs like Lupron or Firmagon cause joint pain?
5:51 How can I best mitigate the discomfort from having Firmagon shots into my abdomen?

The Anti Androgen therapy to treat prostate cancer is ridiculous, there is no scientific explanation why depriving the body of testosterone? If testosterone is the blame of prostate cancer then why aren't teenagers suffering prostate cancer? Who are at risk of prostate cancer? Men over 50 years old when the testosterone levels are the lowest, older man have a testosterone deficiency, it is estrogen what causes tumors, don't always trust big pharma's treatments

I had radiation 1n 2018. My Gleason sore was 9. I did not do the follow up radiation. My psa was rising, but know it is leveling off at around .31 . I'm told I have a very aggressive time and the biopsy core sample was Gleason 9. My symptoms might indicate the cancer might be spreading, although my doctor can't say I have cancer. Medicare will not allow a pet scan, because psa is at at least a 1. My doctor says Gleason 9 does not always produce high psa. So I just wait so see if I get more symptoms of spread.

Can you talk about the effects that HRT/TRT could have on low grade prostate cancer and can it cause the prostate to grow? I suffer from low T and have been on 60mgs of testosterone a week for a few years. Thank you for the great videos.

Love your helpful videos. I just started Orgovyx a couple of weeks ago, good so far. But before starting the drug, my baseline Testosterone level was 318 ng/dl, in the green zone (193-740). So, in your range of 20-50 I am assuming you use a different scale of measurement, is that right? Thanks!

Very interesting. Out of the many forms of prostate cancers, are there some that respond positively on the reduction of other anabolic hormones i.e. estrogen or insulin ? Thank you.

Yes because the testosterone fuels the prostate cancer. The injections will stop his testosterone and therefore lower his PSA because it stops the cancer. He will have a lot of side effects and no sex life though.

I'm guessing vegans seem to do well slowing down PC especially if they don't add fat or oil to their diet because hormones like testosterone need fat or oil for production. I went on a 5 day fast with no added oil or animal fat and before long I ended up with ED till I reintroduced fat and oil, some meat and got off the fast. I can only guess that my testosterone got very low. MY PSA was measured and did drop a bit from a 1.8 level. 9 yrs later it peaked at 4.20, now 3.20 with some diet adjustment.

PLEASE.... you say a shot lasts six months, but you seldom, if ever warn us that your six month shot actually drops out testosterone level to below castrate level for many months longer than six months, and in up to twenty percent of older men drops the T level to below castrate level FOREVER. .....How can a patient give free and fully informed consent when this critical information is deliberately withheld???

Because testosterone does not "fuel " prostate cancer. It's a common outdated notion that has been refuted by prominent urologists in recent years. It's actually caused by genetic and lifestyle issues as well as increasing estrogen/dht and prolactin levels as aging men's testosterone converts more into these hormones as part of the normal ageing process.
