Ойын-сауық

Ted and Seth Macfarlane are epic, but Family Guy is not epic despite funny moments.

I find it funny of how everyone says Seth sucks because family guy sucks, when American dad is still going on and everyone says American dad is still good even though it started 20 years ago.

I was gonna say. It is insane american dad isn't talked about as much. I feel like its also just as popular as other adult animated cartoons out there. I dunno if the new eps are still decent. I vaguely remembered watching all of it from 2005 through I guess around 2014-17 ish

Family guy is a pile of shitty jokes. American Dad is a good comedy. Then again, when he was the writer Family Guy was genuinely really good

    1. Seth McFarlane's career has never been in danger. 2. Seth hasn't written for Family Guy since season 12. 3. Family Guy isn't supposed to be some story rich complex epic with humor that reaches Futurama levels of gold. It's a dumb, easy show you put on when you want cheap easy laughs.

I have to wonder if Family Guy's increasing crudeness over the years was something pushed by the studio (this is Fox after all).

@zeepsterd we do know Fox was super pushy once the first Star Wars parody was a hit, so it would make sense. He probably got tired of dealing with executives and mentally checked out of the whole thing so he could work on other stuff.

@@zeepsterd I think it's more hands in the pot if I'm honest Seth was working on American Dad and Family Guy at the same time to the point where he had different people call the shots on the show David A. Goodman and Chris Sheridan are considered the showrunners of seasons 4-6

100% and in fact it's probably South Park's fault because during the time Family Guy was cancelled The Simpsons got edgier, a lot of people like to say that was Family Guy's fault even though Family Guy wasn't that popular of a show at the time

For me Ted 2 was much better than Ted. Ted's entire premise was "it's funny because children's toys don't curse or do drugs," but aside from the stalker sub-plot it was a very basic "it's me or your loser friend" story. Ted 2 explored what it actually means to be a sentient toy that experiences the human condition in basically all ways, except that he isn't a human he's a teddy bear, a thing that legally is less than an animal (like, the worst crime one can be prosecuted for regarding teddy bears is minor property damage). It's a far more complex story.

I always thought American Dad was great and an example of how Seth wasn't some hack. The characters (even after seeing flanderization in later seasons) were always enjoyable to watch and even managed to keep a warmth to them; and the writing always managed to be more compelling in that even if they didn't always make me laugh they almost always had me interested in the story of the episode.

Great video but i have to disagree on the orvile not having an impact on his reputation. Most people who have seen the orvile seem to really love it and think its very well written. I think that was the start. Also i believe his reputation of not being funny has to do with the movies he released after ted since they were pretty bad.

I dunno why but I feel like Seth MacFarlane would do a great job voicing All Might. Maybe if that live action My Hero Academia movie goes the same route as many a live action animation hybrids like The Smurfs or Yogi Bear. Anyways given Ted and Twisted Metal. I might consider getting Peacock.

I think it's genuinely funny how some people seem to hate Seth for things he really had no involvement in, such as modern Family Guy. I've known about his limited involvement for a long time now, since I was a kid, something he has mentioned in interviews repeatedly. He truly handed over creative control to the team at Fox, which has evolved over time. He has also stated that he's never been great at handling more than one show at a time, in the sense that he either gives his all or nothing. When he was the predominant creative force behind Family Guy, all of the elements you mentioned, such as quality, characters, comedy, and heart, were all present. It's that spark and passion he had that really gave the show life, which can also be seen in his other works like Ted and American Dad, etc. (By the way, you forgot to mention American Dad. That show was, and still is, great, in my opinion. Definitely better than most of Family Guy at this point). Additionally, the guy himself is just funny. His personality is infectious and could probably make most people laugh if they were in the same room. His love for pop culture, movies, and music is something many people can relate to. I think no matter what your feelings about the guy are, it's hard to deny that there really is something special and unique about him.

Think Seth said in an interview before that he doesn’t think Matt and Trey actually like him. He’s never spoke to them before but think he said they were all at the same party and they intentionally ignored him. Think it’s why Seth never took shots at South Park in family guy cos he knew he wouldn’t be in good spirit

I think it should be said that TED didn't save a thing, and Seth just got tired of Fox and running Family Guy, so when they rejected the concept he finally had his way out. Meanwhile, your comment about The Orville is fascinating, because everyone I know who watched it consider it to be one of the better non Star Trek Star Trek shows.
