Taylor is awesome! She deserves any success she gets, she's worked hard to be an excellent comic. Few comics get their start doing the church circuit 😂 it made her a great technical comic 👍🏻

I'm so glad she said she does standup on weekends. I watched her last Netflix special and was so impressed that watching After Midnight is like watching Alex Honnold climb in a gym with a rope. It's a funny show and it works well, but I'm glad she prioritizes her standup.

Taylor is doing an amazing job hosting After Midnight. We used to watch the first version sporadically but with After Midnight we watch it daily as part of our routine. Love Taylor and Conan. Conan has a good gauge of bringing comedians in.

I was expecting "After Midnight (Taylor's Version)" a swiftly executed personal expression of everything which is Ms. Tomlinson. ♥

I remember him incorporating them into his jokes a lot. He would have the camera show them if there was a typo or a bad direction. Sometimes he'd rip them up or throw them into the audience if they made him mad. 😂

Taylor Tomlinson has to be the most precocious comic since Bill Hicks. Both were great comics by their late teens/early twenties if you look back at their early stuff.

I'd have to go back and watch, but I'd SWEAR they DID say it would be a talk show in multiple promos with Colbert

They did! Nobody knew what the show was about, not even Taylor. Colbert asked her how she'd handle talking to all these "big celebrities". Taylor never made mention it would just be her hosting a fake quiz show with other stand-up comedians.

You all are probably right, but I think that "Ick or no Ick" game she and Colbert played during her interview gave us the biggest clue about the show's nature. Can't complain at all, though, because I really enjoy After Midnight just the way it is! 😅

I'm starting to feel like a real Oldie Olsen now. I've heard of her before, but barely. She seems like a true talent!

The age of talk shows ended with the rise of podcasts. Most talk shows kind of follow a rigid structure where the guest is expected to have an anecdote ready & the talk show host is meant to bring that up along with promoting whatever project their guest is there to promote. Conan was always a great host due to his unpredictable sense of humor as was Craig Ferguson who preceded James Corden who was replaced by Taylor Tomlinson ofcourse. Craig was funny, silly, flirty and unpredictable (just like Conan). Some of the stuff though from their times wouldn't really fly with today's cultures & standards so I like the new direction where the future of late night is headed. This new show is a panel show similar to lot of the british panel/game shows that I've begun enjoying watching on KZread since the start of the pandemic. Shows like 8 out of 10 cats, Cats does countdown, Taskmaster, and numerous others. These become avenues to promote talent more than their projects. Been seeing lot of new (and old but less known) standups, comedy actors, and writers getting a chance to shine in the public limelight. They get a chance to be original & funny and come up with something on the spot rather than tell the same stories & anecdotes that they've sharing throughout their entire press circuit.

I hope Taylor gets all the success she deserves, but the most important thing - thanks for recognizing those of us who work from the supermarket.

I watched every single episode of @Midnight, and I have watched almost everyone of the new version (I'm about a week behind) and its objectively better in the new version, and not just because of Taylor, but she's a far funnier host than Chris was (ignoring all controversies)

Set up four cameras inside the studio and edit them all so you see only who’s speaking and isolate it just like they do with the audio.

Don't know if you are, I'm not and in my experience Americans love their abbreviations 😜 I find it a bit entitled, like everybody in entertainment always saying "DP" in interviews instead of director of photography, as in "Sure, everybody outside the industry knows what that means"

@@DOSkywalkR I notice it generationally. Born in '81, people used to define an acronym before throwing it around. Now people assume their feed is the same as everyone else's reality. They'll type an entire paragraph of words and use an acronym for the one thing that should actually be defined. I interpret it as a tell for lack of real world experience.

Honestly I thought it was going to be a talk show as well, then I watched it and it was a game show instead. Still really good.

My initial reaction to the show was that I love Taylor's standup but I have no interest in talk shows. It wasn't until I saw highlights of the first episode on KZread that I realized it wasn't a talk show at all, but rather a very obvious reboot of arguably my favorite Comedy Central show of the 2010s, @Midnight. So then I was just kind of mad that they didn't lean into that during all of the promotion because that's exactly what I wanted the whole time anyway: One of my favorite shows hosted by one of my favorite standups.

You know what’s really great about @AfterMidnight? How they never upload the clips in order!! Was so frustrating at first; now some of the folks in the comments and I play a game of “which clip airs next?”

Interestingly enough, I've also been out of virtually every social media (if we don't consider KZread as such), despite being only in my 20s. But maybe it's one of the reasons why I do enjoy the show so much: it allows me to laugh at the madness happening over there without having to binge watch it for hours... 😅

I've been consuming a lot of Conan lately, and without realizing it, I started making self-deprecating jokes like he does. However, I notice that people don't find it as funny. I thought it was because I'm just completely unfunny, but then I remembered, Conan makes self-deprecating jokes and everyone laughs, because Conan is actually a successful comedian and genuinely cool person. On the other hand, at this moment I'm really screwed. Then I realized, when it's true, it's not funny; it's just sad :)

I like her, but her show is just lame and dated. It is just another version of shows they were doing on Comedy Central 20 years ago, where the comedians know the questions ahead of time in order to craft their “funny” replies.

I only watched the first episode since that's the only one available in Europe, but I instantly felt that she was far funnier on her own than what the show was. I'm sure if they just got rid of the teleprompters and allowed her and the guests to improvise more, it would feel less manufactured and be a lot more entertaining.

How did you prep? You are better than that show! All they have you do is read from a teleprompter.

i'll be honest, i adore Taylor as a standup comedian, but her fake quiz show is pretty bad. I mean maybe i'm too old to get the jokes but the fake laughs it's what really gets me

She reminds me of Amy Schumer but with a more blasé personality.

Taylor Tomlinson would be a very good talkshow host. Defitnetly better than Ellen Degenerate.

Seems like a wasted opportunity. I understand where she's coming from, but completely disassociating from the work she does on the show, doesn't make me want to watch it or feel like I should care. The host doesn't care. Doesn't feel like she is part of it. Doesn't feel like she is putting her voice out there. It is just a generic game show, after midnight, made by CBS studio executives, and so says the host. Why would I watch that? And I was really, really looking forward to her as a late night host. And that is the impression I got from the last episode, that she would be a late night host.

@@jaywinner328 she trailed it as a talk show on Colbert months ago, on the previous Conan podcast. 99% of comments were positive and looking forward to watching her host. What it was, and is, is a very subpar gameshow that disappointed most of the excited and willing audience. Just look at the comments and numbers as the show went on. And this video alone, they address it, it is damage control. They are saying "nooo noo it was never meant to be a talk show, how on earth did people get THAT impression. I don't even work there really, not even Monday through Thursday. I don't do the jokes, I don't choose what I wear." And then watch the pilot episode. The jokes are about the face this isn't what she would ideally like to be doing, that TV is dead, and that no one is likely watching it if people aren't watching the Emmys even. Maybe people would watch if it was a talk show? Yknow, the thing that people, and her fans most importantly, seemed excited about?
