Would have been nice to see some movement events compared from when Larry tried strongman. Like farmers walk or yoke. Larry is a static monster but wildly unathletic and cannot move well with very low stamina. Marius was never a big static lifter but had crazy speed, explosiveness, athleticism, and endurance which is why he dominated strongman. Only comparing them in static lifting is not a very fair comparison.

Larry is a freak but Mariusz is one of the strength GOATs of the era. The static big three lifts were never a focus for Pudz and to be honest, why would they be considering strongman requires power and speed. That worked well for him as he was one of the most powerful lifters in regards to explosiveness. Just an overall excellent athlete. Not taking anything away but Larry trained a bit for strongman but then stopped as he was already developing injuries. Too bad, would have been great to see him compete with Licis, Novikov, Stoltmans and the like.

I believe Larry was more like power lifting man. his goal and drive was to lift more weight. Get to next level. Mariusz was more like champion man - he was as strong as it was required of him to become champion. If level of competition would be higher he would get stronger untill he would win or his body would collapse which did not happen so i think he still had some good margin to go.

Always interesting to see comparisons between different types of athletes. It would be even cooler to see videos of actual athletes applying their skills to different sports. Like take some bodybuilders and actually have them train for a week or so on strongman events, then do a strongman competition to see how well their training transfers. Or take a sumo wrestler and see how well they do as an offensive lineman in an NFL scrimmage. I saw a video called something like Brute Force Showdown, where they kind of did that--they took different kinds of strength athletes and had them compete in a variety of events to see whose skills transferred the best to general athleticism. I'd love to see someone expand on that idea.

Both are/were beasts to their own right. Although I sort of feel this is like comparing Big Z with Tom Stoltman in atlas stones to take an example. The age gap is rather big and things evolve and the values increase. Meaning it will be like saying something cost 100 dollars in 1980 and claiming the value is still 100 dollars in 2016. Thats just not how things work xD Had Mariusz been in WSM today, pulling 300Kg in DL he would be outclassed by everyone. The comparison display how things change and values just keep climbing. So great way of showing this :)

A very difficult comparison, Mariusz trained where he needed to out perform other strongmen, so endurance and athleticism were key, that's why he won not only 5 wsm titles but more events than anyone else to date, I would go as far as saying if you compared any other athletes over their 7 years at the top ( Z 14.....) Mariusz for event wins would probably be beating the next best two's accumulative score., I do agree just like Kaz, if they were to compete today there would be a performance enhancement, whether that would be enough to compete against the Thor's and Eddie's, mmmmm

Angus Makaskill, Mills Darren, nearing 8 foot tall and app 600lb and 1000lb bodyweight, just remember Cleve Dean 6'8" I've heard it say at his heaviest 660lb? He went into WSM WAS NO WAY ENHANCED, imagine if he was.... Don Reinhudt, it was said he was natural, and he still beat Kaz, remember the plexi glass 1000lb squat... By far Mariusz. The dude is an absolute unit of strength, speed and power. Unmatched to this day. If Mariusz had concentrated only as a static lift strength athlete, most probably he might be at par with Larry Wheels or perhaps even surpass him. Whereas Larry Wheels cannot go the Strongman route, his body isn't made for that. You need thick tendons, thick bone structure which is why most Strongmen are bulky. Even Mariusz himself was bulky but far muscular than other Strongmen. Dude's a phenom in every sense of the word.

Wow, this puts in perspective how strong Larry is and even crazier, how much stronger can he get with time as he's still very young. I would risk a guess that if they were to compete and had more endurance competitions, prime Mariusz would totally smoke Larry, but if they'd be more like Arnold's classic with heavier weights and more static competitions, then Larry maybe would come on top Edit: before anyone freaks out over this, I know that Pudzianowski was the best at his time and it's not to take anything away from his accomplishments, but it's been long since he moved on to mma so it's not like he'll get any stronger than he was in his heyday
