How Sports Betting is Impacting the Integrity of Sports

Shohei Ohtani, one of the biggest stars in baseball has been dealing with a massive scandal, his interpreter stole millions of dollars from him to pay for gambling debts. In the NBA, Jontay Porter was recently banned for life for betting on NBA games.
Sports betting scandals aren't new, but in the past betting was illegal. Getting into betting was harder, and so was getting caught.
In 2018 the United States Supreme Court ruled to strike down a federal ban on sports betting, allowing the individual states to decide if it should be legal or not. Canada has more or less followed suit.
The result is the explosion of companies like FanDuel and DraftKings, betting companies who's logo dominates every sports broadcast. Betting is no longer an illegal activity, it's a core part of the audience experience.
And while this has made players and sports leagues a lot money, it has also made gambling, and gambling addiction far more accessible. The most recent scandals with Ohtani and Porter are just the tip of the iceberg. Is it possible to protect the integrity of sports when betting is part of the game?

These leagues will be the first to promote gambling websites and collect ad checks from Fan duel and Draft kings and then turn around and tell you the worst thing is for a player to gamble because it ruins the integrity of the game. Its a disgusting double standard and a slap to the fans face. If such high stakes (no pun intended) are on the line then why are they even affiliated with gambling to begin with? Thats like a company drug testing their employees for marijuana while at the same time promoting it. The NBA exists because of the talent of players. Dont use the platform they have built to promote something they cant even use.
