Splatoon's UI has really evolved a lot. In a multiplayer game, it's extremely vital to have the UI be very clear on what's going on and 3 does really good at that. I'm sure the next Splatoon will be even more finely tuned than 3 already is. It's sad the original will be shutting down soon. I really gotta hop back on and play before it'll be gone. Yeah, I’m bummed I barely played much of the original Splatoon. I haven’t touched X despite having bought a physical copy a year ago. I’ve been busy with Persona 3 Reload so I haven’t been able to play much else.

It really takes someone explaining the purpose of specific UI design choices for me to fully appreciate it. The thing about UI design is that often times the best UI just goes unnoticed because it feels so natural. I never really thought about the placement of the Special gauge being on the right side of the screen because i's activated with the right stick until you mentioned it.

Absolutely, it's crazy to think how much of good UI design we take for granted, yet bad UI is more noticeable to us. Playing Splatoon 1 and 2 again made me surprised at how well Nintendo made the battle UI so early on, and nearly perfected it with 3.

I’d definitely recommend it! The catalog in 3 allows you to always have a goal you’re going towards. It’s a unique multiplayer game unlike anything else I’ve played, and the only online shooter I enjoy.

I first played splatoon at E3 2014. They had these little squid souvenirs. I thought it was a spin off from the squids in Mario bros. That be interesting to see bloopers in splatoon. Did you think the design was inspired from bloopers too? 😅

Thank you for being part of this video! Glad to hear your thoughts on Octo Expansion and it’s UI. I haven’t played that in years but looking back a lot was packed into it for a $20 expansion.

Excellent work! Consider speaking slightly slower, i had to rewind sometimes to catch words i missed. I like that side order and octo expansion have unique aesthetics from the main world of the games.

Thank you! I’ve gotten some comments about that in past videos, I’ll keep that in mind for the future. The DLC expansions are some of my favorite parts of Splatoon and wish more of the main game was like them.
