Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door was one of my most anticipated games to come out in 2024! Despite having played it recently, the upgraded artstyle and quality of life features made it an immediate purchase for me. So today, I wanted to talk about how the remake utilizes the papercraft aesthetic found in the newer Paper Mario entries, while still retaining the charm of the original game. I also discuss quality of life improvements and changes made to the UI Design of the remake, for better, and for worse.

I never noticed just how desaturated the original game's color pallette was until seeing them side by side like this, wow. I guess the mid-late 00s drab aesthetic reached farther than we thought xD Also, any Switch game that uses the Super Famicom button colors automatically gets points from me, especially now that most PlayStation and Xbox games stopped showing the button colors on their UI

Yeah, it’s annoying how a lot of games nowadays don’t show button colors on their UI. It can make button prompts more difficult to distinguish and less accessible for certain audiences. Also my footage doesn’t do the original game’s visuals justice, but it’s definitely more darker than the remake. Probably because I was playing on a Wii with upscaled resolution and not on an emulator.

@@AquaTwist_ I mean, I have played the original quite a bit on both a CRT and a modern TV, it's still definitely drabber than the remake. And yeah, as someone who hops around between all platforms but grew up with SNES, DS etc, if a game on Xbox tells me to press X or Y I'm probably sunk if it's not colored in xD
Just made me realize how weird it is that for Dooplis they have an ingame keyboard (that lacks the letter p for a while) but for naming the Yoshi they dont use it. Interesting.

Yeah, I almost thought about mentioning that in the video because I also noticed that inconsistency. I wonder if it’s because Nintendo treats that sequence as more deserving of the in-game keyboard than naming a main party member.

@AquaTwist_ I don't think it's a "more deserving" thing. I think it's more so the fact that I think getting rid of the P in the switch text menu would probably be impossible. The real question is why did they make a whole text thing for the freak in the sheet and not reuse it for Yoshi 🤔

What’s even weirder is that when you have to input a password in chapter 7, they reuse the Doo_liss keyboard. It’s strange -3-

@@DoctorMario606 I know that for the eShop keyboard for entering Gift Card codes they exclude specific letters so people don't accidentally type in the wrong characters (like O instead of 0). So it's definitely possible. Weird they didn't reuse it for Yoshi though.

@@mreverything7056 Yeah I just played Chapter 7 today and noticed that, so it's even stranger they didn't re-use it for Chapter 3.
I think they used the switch keyboard when naming the Yoshi to prevent you from naming him a bad word

I never thought of that. That’s probably the most logical explanation.

I don’t know much about the game but I’ll take a look at it!
Great video! After all these years, I still need to play this game, although, I'll probably be playing the original first since I'm a purest.

Thank you! The original still holds up very well, though I think the quality of life changes make the experience of the remake more enjoyable to me personally.
